Sandra Oh talks about race and acting in new interview
Sandra Oh is opening up about representation for minority actors in a new interview with Elle Canada. "I'm in a place in my career now where I am specifically interested in roles that explore a character's race," she admitted, when asked about color blind casting. "Because I can—and because I want our conversations to eventually move to a place that recognizes that it's important." One problematic thing she has found is in the voices of Asian-Americans on screen. "Asian-Americans, particularly from my generation, almost recoil if we hear an accent [onscreen] because of how laden in racism and misunderstanding [it is] and [how it's a result of] not being in charge of the story," she says. "If you are Korean-American and from Los Angeles, you have an accent, but they aren't trying to flatten their accent, like I have. They are just carrying that into the character of, say, a doctor. That's how we get the shift. We don't want to just have a person of colour acting the way a white person would act. Because they're not!" Understanding her role in this shift, Oh says she is happy to take on the burden of teaching this to the future generation of actors, writers and directors.
Caitlyn Jenner calls her gender dysphoria a "gift"
In honor of Pride Month, Caitlyn Jenner has opened about her experience with gender dysphoria in Women's Health, calling it a "gift." The Olympian, who says at the age of 9, she was struggling with her gender identity, discovered in fifth grade that she was the fastest kid in school. "I was shocked, and realized this was something at which I could actually excel," the gold medalist explained. "I needed sports more to prove to myself that I could be good at something, and I worked a little harder than I think I would have if I hadn't been struggling." During Olympic training, Jenner, who also struggled with dyslexia, called herself "extraordinarily dedicated, motivated and competitive" and admitted during that time she ignored her gender issues. "When you suffer from gender dysphoria, it's not something you can take two aspirin for, get plenty of sleep, wake up the next morning, and everything's fine. You're just kind of stuck with it. I didn't understand it, and I didn't know what was going on with me," the 70-year-old said. "But it was also my dyslexia and gender issues that made me an Olympic champion. I channeled my struggles to drive and push me. Now, I see those issues as my gift." Jenner praised the benefits of athletics, specifically calling out the Olympics committee for being progressive regarding hormone policies for non-doping purposes in sports. "In the future, I think more sports organizations are going to have to find a way to accept trans athletes, too," she said. "We have certainly come a long way in the past 20 to 30 years, but we still have a ways to go."

When we choose love, we chose the good life." Hudson, who shares Rani with boyfriend Danny Fujikawa, continued, "And if you think love didn't choose you, remember, someone out there, scratch that, MANY people out there are ready to bring you in and share love with you.
