Jessica Simpson shares new details about her divorce from Nick Lachey

In her new memoir, "Open Book," Jessica Simpson shies away from nothing, sharing candid and in many cases difficult memories about her past, from the revelation that she got sober in 2017 after a battle with alcohol and stimulants to the sexual abuse she endured as a little girl. The singer turned businesswoman also opens up about her most public romances, including her marriage to Nick Lachey, which made her a household name in the early 2000s when they appeared on the reality show, "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica." In her book, Jessica reveals she met the 98 Degrees singer at a Christmas party in 1998 and knew he was The One — or so she thought. '"Hi I'm Nick," he said. Hello, my life. I thought," she writes (via The Blast). Explaining the nature of their attraction, Jessica says, "Nick loved the fact that I was so strong in my faith and that I had this wide-eyed innocent approach to life." They got engaged in 2002 but as she tells her readers, they soon fell victim to career-related anxiety. "We had been together almost seven years when I told Nick, 'I think I want a divorce,'" she recalls. Referencing a quote from Nick she saw in the press at the time in which he said he was "blindsided" by the split, she said that seemed off to her. "At that point we were not even speaking to each other. Maybe he was just shocked that I stood up for myself. I don't think he ever thought I would take the leap," she muses. Jessica went on to marry Eric Johnson, with whom she's currently happy and raising three children. But as she explains in "Open Book," the divorce took a toll on multiple levels. Because they had no prenup, she says she was forced to fork over $12 million to Nick, who earned less while they were together. "Open Book" hits shelves Feb. 4.

Juice WRLD's cause of death ruled 'an accident;' family announces public tribute, music release

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office announced this week that rapper Juice WRLD (Jarad Anthony Higgins) died of an accidental overdose of codeine and oxycodone, according to NPR. Following the announcement, both from the AP and the office's Twitter, Juice's family issued a statement via his social media. "From the bottom of our hearts we want to thank each and every one of you for your undivided adoration and love for Juice," the statement read. "You guys meant the entire world to Juice and by listening to his music, watching his videos and sharing your stories about him, you are keeping his memory alive forever. We plan to honor Juice's talents, his spirit, and the love he felt for his fans by sharing unreleased music and other projects that he was passionately in the process of developing. There will be a public tribute in Chicago, details will be shared soon." The promising young artist died last month shortly after his 21st birthday. He had flown into into his hometown of Chicago before reportedly suffering a seizure at Midway International Airport on Dec. 8. He was given Narcan and rushed to a hospital. In 2018, he discussed his struggle to stop using Xanax in an interview with the New York Times. "I smoke weed, and every now and then I slip up and do something that's poor judgment," he told the outlet at the time. "I have a lot going for me, I recognize it's a lot of big things, a lot of big looks. I want to be there, and you don't have to overdose to not be there."

Ultimately, she said "he was fine" — he'd been wrestling a close friend, apparently — but he did get hurt badly enough that a medic rushed out to check on him. "From our point of view, it looked like he got poked in the eye," she said. "I was like, 'I get it, that hurts, sometimes your eye won't open.' But we were like, 'OK, Joaquin, for heaven's sakes, pull yourself together.' And I was saying, 'See? He's an actor.' Because he was [covering his face]. It was very dramatic!" That's when she noticed the team helping him was "rubbing" something. "What we don't know that we can't see is that he's bleeding and they're wiping the blood off of him," she continued. In the end, though, Joaquin won the match. "Did you know that when you break your nose while you're wrestling, that they put tampons up there?" Kelly asked Ryan.
