Wonderwall.com rounded up several recent examples of how stars are nothing like us, starting with an all-star collaboration that could only happen in Hollywood… Leave it to Jennifer Lopez to get Joanna Gaines to commit to an assignment outside of Waco, Texas. (She and husband Chip Gaines work exclusively near their home so that they can be close to their five children.) A month after the singer-actress, who's a major fan of "Fixer Upper," revealed that boyfriend Alex Rodriguez surprised her on their second anniversary by getting Joanna to chat with her on FaceTime to offer some tips on how to fix up a property they recently purchased in Malibu, J.Lo and the HGTV star were photographed inspecting the beachfront pad as a camera crew rolled. "Joanna is going to help Jennifer remodel her home. Jennifer wanted to walk the space with Joanna in person," said an "Entertainment Tonight" source. "It was really just an opportunity for them to walk the space together and for Joanna to hear Jennifer's vision for the space." The insider added that, for now, "there truly is no formal plan for any of the footage" but it "could possibly end up" on the new network Joanna and Chip are launching. In other Joanna Gaines and Chip Gaines news, a rep for the "Fixer Upper" couple confirmed in late February 2019 that the pair recently picked up the 106-year-old Cottonland Castle in Waco, Texas. "For nearly two decades, Chip and Joanna have admired the property as a hallmark of the Castle Heights neighborhood — they've even made past attempts to purchase it," said the rep. "The property is an iconic piece of Waco's history and while specific plans have not yet been determined, one thing is for certain: Their efforts will focus on fully completing the home's long overdue and well-deserved restoration." According to the Waco Tribune-Herald, the 6,700-square-foot property was listed at $425,000 and has changed hands several times over the years — partly because it's so costly to maintain. It's unclear how much exactly Chip and Joanna ultimately dropped on the pricey pad.

Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram on March 1, 2019, to reveal that he recently committed to buying his dad a new home in Florida. "About two to three weeks ago, I called my dad and I said, 'Look, you're probably happy where you're at … but I want to do something for you. I want to buy you a brand new home — wherever you wanna live, you can live," he said in a video. "He goes, 'I'm so excited, and I'm also so nervous.' My dad's an old-school tough-guy. I said, 'What the hell are you nervous about?' He said, 'Well … no one ever called to tell me they were going to buy me a house before and the fact that it's you, it's my son — I'm so proud of you and I love you so much.'" The Rock concluded by saying that "it just felt good" to give back to the man who raised him. In the video's caption, he explained that his father was 13 years old "when his mom kicked him out of his house on Christmas day and forced him to live on the streets." Wrote the wrestler-actor after thanking his dad for "always instilling the value of hard work and discipline" in him, "This one felt good. Crazy how full circle life can come. Enjoy your new house pop — what a storied path."

On the Feb. 26, 2019, episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Mila Kunis dished on the bizarre perks of living in the same neighborhood in Santa Barbara, California, as the talk-show host. First, Ellen explained that she and wife Portia de Rossi "live very close" to the actress and her husband, Ashton Kutcher, but because she and Portia are "there more often" than the former "That '70s Show" co-stars, she updates them "when we have issues going on" in the neighborhood. "I let you know if there are sharks in the ocean. I let you know if we're flooded in," said Ellen. Chimed in Mila, "This is surreal life. Like, you have to realize I get updates about rain drainage, flooding, weather from Ellen videotaping our house … but with commentary coming from [her]. So it's like a disaster is happening but it's funny." Mila then explained how Ellen's fame recently confused her 4-year-old daughter, Wyatt. "[She has] no concept of anything other than I am a mom, and Ellen is a human that lives next door to us," she said. "So this weekend, she was like, 'I really want some cereal,' and I was like, 'Just go in the pantry and grab yourself some Cheerios.' She grabs the Cheerios box, she looks at it, and she goes, 'Mommy! Ellen's on a Cheerios box!' And I was like, 'Yeah!' And she's like, 'Why?' And I had no answer. … I punted it to Ashton, and his response was like, 'Well, anyone can be on the Cheerios box.' So now my kid thinks anybody can be on the Cheerios box." Fired back Ellen, "How dare you note make a bigger deal of that." But that wasn't the end of surreal story time…
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher also own a home in Beverly Hills near Hollywood talent manager Guy Oseary, who famously co-hosts a star-studded Oscars afterparty with Madonna each year. Mila told Ellen DeGeneres that there have been years when the famous guests who've attended Madonna and Guy's annual bash "end up falling asleep in our driveway." Said the actress, "It's one of the weirdest moments when you wake up and you're like, 'That's…! Oh, wow.' And I'm like, 'I gotta take my kid to school, so I'm just gonna roll you away.' … [It's a celebrity] a hundred percent of the time. … It happened last year. It was surreal." Sadly, Mila stopped short of naming names.
Serena Williams and Amal Clooney reportedly dropped big bucks to host Duchess Meghan's baby shower in mid-February 2019. According to Tatler, the bash took place at the Grand Penthouse Suite at The Mark hotel in New York City, which goes for $75K a night — making it the most expensive hotel room per night in the United States. The tennis star, who's been friends with Prince Harry's missus for years, reportedly picked up the bill for the 10,000-square-foot suite, which features a 2,500-square-foot rooftop terrace overlooking Central Park, five bedrooms, four fireplaces, six bathrooms, two powder rooms, two wet bars, a dining room, a conservatory and a living room that can be transformed into a full-size grand ballroom. Michelin-star-rated chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten reportedly catered desserts for the shower, while renowned harpist Erin Hill served as the entertainment. Following the A-list affair, Meghan jetted back to London on a private plane chartered by Amal for a cool $163K. "Amal was already flying back and covering all the costs so it made total sense," a source told The Sun. "Amal was more than happy for Meghan to fly back with her. … It's absolutely not the case that the taxpayers or the royal family paid for the cost of the jet. The flight didn't cost Meghan a thing." During an interview with "Entertainment Tonight" that hit the Internet on Feb. 23, 2019, makeup artist Erika La' Pearl revealed that she sometimes does Cardi B's makeup while the rapper is sleeping. "She trusts me," Erika said of the chart-topper. "Sometime when I do her makeup, she's asleep. So I do my thing and she wakes up and she's like, 'Oh, you did blue eyeshadow this time.'" TMZ reported on March 11, 2019, that Kim Kardashian West recently committed to paying a stranger's rent for the next five years after she caught wind of his story on Twitter. Matthew Charles — who served 20 years of a 35-year sentence for non-violent drug and weapons charges — was released early under new prison reform laws, a cause that's near and dear to the reality star's heart, but was unable to secure housing for himself due to his record. That's when Kim stepped in to help.

He was gonna pull [the ring] out while I'm reading it. Tyler Perry's generosity is the stuff of legend. On Feb. 25, 2019, actor Rome Flynn told "Extra" that midway through filming "A Madea Family Funeral," the actor-director doubled the cast's salaries. Recalled Rome, "He brought us all into the producers' room halfway into shooting, and we were all a little scared. We were like, 'What the hell? What did we do?' He sat us down individually and said, 'Listen, Tyler's enjoying everything you guys are doing so he wants to double your pay for the movie.' … He basically just blessed us for no reason." Added actress Quin Walters, "It was unbelievable that he doubled our salaries because he appreciated the work that we were bringing to the table." When "Extra" asked Tyler about the unexpected raises, he demurred: "I just want everybody to know that I appreciate [them]. They're special. "There are months of priming: skincare, polishing, radiofrequency, lasers, peels and all sorts of toning procedures," he told the British tabloid. "Then, say 12 hours before blast-off, there's a stress-induced blemish, they'll come into the office at 4 or 5 a.m. on Oscars morning for what I like to call my emergency pimple clinic."
