Stars who have a reputation for being difficult

On Aug. 8, 2017, Hulu will finally release Season 3 of its original hit comedy series "Difficult People," which stars Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner. In real life, these two actors couldn't be more awesome, but their show got us thinking — who in Hollywood is a pain to work with? Throughout his 30-plus-year career, Johnny Depp has widely been considered a wonderful actor to work with. However, recent stories suggest that the A-list actor was less than professional on the set of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales." Reports allege that Johnny would disappear from the set during filming, show up hours late — wasting millions — and has even paid a sound engineer to feed him lines of dialogue through an earpiece so he wouldn't have to memorize them. But according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Johnny's seen the error or his ways. "He just finished [shooting] 'Murder on the Orient Express' and was on time every day," he told The Hollywood Reporter in May 2017.

The former "Grey's Anatomy" and "Knocked Up" star has a long reputation for being a demanding, difficult actress on set. Insiders shared with Us Weekly that Katherine Heigl would run up the production costs on set as she used precious filming time to critique the script or remain in her trailer when filming was set to start. Even the actress herself has admitted that she's struggled with "keeping her mouth shut" on set.

Depending on who you speak to, it would seem that Shia LaBeouf is either one of the most intense method actors of our time or totally impossible to work with. While filming "Lawless" in 2011, Shia admitted to drinking an abundance of moonshine in order to appear bloated and puffy for his role. He also said co-star Mia Wasikowska was so unhappy during her interactions with him that she tried to get released from the film.

It was no secret that Teri Hatcher's castmates on "Desperate Housewives" didn't think highly of the actress. According to creator Marc Cherry, co-star Nicollette Sheridan once told him Teri was "the meanest woman in the world." While the actresses have remained tight-lipped on exactly why the star was so disliked, they apparently gave Teri one final diss when they bought the crew parting gifts and left her name off the card.

Gene Hackman built a reputation for being both an intense, awe-inspiring performer and a cantankerous, argumentative star who wasn't afraid to lash out at the film crew. Although Gene's "The Royal Tenenbaums" co-stars were quick to defend him, they also let it slip that he once, in a fit of anger, threatened to burn the entire set down. Apparently, the actor didn't even want to do the movie because it didn't pay enough and required him to be there for longer than he wanted.

Before Shannen Doherty revealed her brave battle with breast cancer, she was known in Tinseltown as one of the most difficult stars to work with. Not only was she fired from "Beverly Hills, 90210" after a now-infamous fight with co-stars Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling, but she later left the show "Charmed" after feuding with co-star Alyssa Milano.

British actor Christian Bale might be a Hollywood heartthrob, but he's also known for his torrential temper tantrums. Not only does he have a history of verbally abusing his family members, but he was recorded hurling insults at the director of photography while filming "Terminator: Salvation" in 2009. The video went viral and made fans' jaws drop.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has had feuds with some of the biggest names in the industry, like Tyra Banks and, most recently, Rihanna. Even fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi told reporters that Naomi was the most difficult model to work with because he never knew if she would actually show up. In 2007, the iconic beauty was charged with assault for allegedly hitting her maid in the head with a cellphone.

If we're to believe director Kevin Smith, then Bruce Willis might just be one of the most difficult actors ever. Apparently, while filming "Cop Out," Bruce refused to sit for any promotional photos and later wouldn't promote the movie by giving interviews, leading to weak sales at the box office. Kevin claims the experience was "soul crushing." Even actor and director Sylvester Stallone hinted that Bruce was a pain in the a–, which led to him being replaced in the "Expendables" movie franchise.

Nicki Minaj might be fierce in the recording studio, but rumor has it she's ferocious to work with. From allegations that she wastes photographers' time at photo shoots to the infamous feud between her and Mariah Carey while on "American Idol" (where she was recorded screaming profanities at the singer), Nicki has quickly gained a reputation as a bona fide diva.

It's pretty well-established that Steven Seagal might just be one of the worst people in Hollywood (he was once accused of keeping sex slaves, though a later sex-trafficking charge was eventually dismissed). It was rumored that Steven tried to constantly change scripts on set and would harass cast members and crew alike. Actor John Leguizamo even shared that Steven once physically attacked him for laughing at him during rehearsals.

This former "Saturday Night Live" alum has a long reputation for being a diva on set. Not only have insiders claimed that Mike Myers is a control freak, but actress Amy Hill, who co-starred with him in "The Cat in the Hat," told The A.V. Club that the entire cast was forced to wait on Mike during his lengthy hair and makeup sessions at the crack of dawn. She even claimed that the actor refused to get to know any of his castmates and had a guy on standby with a container of his favorite chocolates for whenever he had a craving.

In 2013, Life & Style magazine published a report exposing Gwyneth Paltrow's alleged list of diva demands. From her gym shower having to be dried before she uses it (so she doesn't have to touch someone else's water, natch) to her very specific and detailed food plans to her need for a fresh roll of toilet paper at every sitting, it's clear Gwyneth lives in a different world than the rest of us if these allegations are to be believed.

Charlie Sheen's volatile personality and hard-partying lifestyle has been well-documented in the press. In 2011, the Hollywood bad boy was fired by producers of "Two and a Half Men" for his erratic, self-destructive behavior that included drug and alcohol use and a willful refusal to seek help (it didn't help that Charlie also publicly criticized series creator Chuck Lorre). The actor tried to capitalize on his terrible reputation, hitting the road on what he called his "Violent Torpedo of Truth" tour, which ultimately flopped.

When it comes to Lea Michele, she's the first to admit she has no problem stating her opinions. According to former "Glee" co-star Naya Rivera, Lea was competitive and strong-willed (like her), which created tension on set. Other rumors about Lea's diva-like behavior include tales of snapping her fingers during filming and saying "Let's go!" because she was in a hurry, which caused Kate Hudson to allegedly claim the star was "a nightmare" to work with.

Fans might remember that Isaiah Washington was fired from "Grey's Anatomy" back in 2007 after he used a homophobic slur when referencing co-star T.R. Knight. Isaiah initially blamed co-star Patrick Dempsey for the angry altercation but later took responsibility, claiming he had "things within himself" that he needed to evaluate. Since then, there haven't been any complaints about Isaiah's on-set attitude, which gives us hope that he's now reformed.

It's quite possible that Mariah Carey put the D in diva with her historic list of demands and rude behavior toward cast, crew and staff on her projects. Recently, scenes Mariah filmed for the Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler comedy "The House" were cut, cast members revealed, hinting that it was all thanks to her terrible on-set attitude, tardiness, refusal to listen to the director and extensive demands, including calls for white roses and stuffed lambs.

Famed director Michael Bay is known for making some of the biggest blockbuster films in history, including the "Transformers" franchise, "Pearl Harbor" and more, but he's also earned a reputation for being a tyrant and judgemental about women's looks. "I think he was baffled by me because my boobs weren't bigger than my head and I wasn't blonde," Kate Beckinsale told Graham Norton in 2016. Interestingly enough, Michael once said of Kate while promoting "Pearl Harbor," "I didn't want someone who was too beautiful. Women feel disturbed when they see someone's too pretty." Michael also once stated that gorgeous actress Kate Winslet from "Titanic" was "pretty, but not overwhelmingly beautiful." Megan Fox famously claimed Michael directed with an iron fist and "wants to be like Hitler on his sets."

Although handsome Alex Pettyfer's star once seemed to be shining bright, his defiant attitude and troubled relationships with co-stars have affected his career. The actor admitted that his "Magic Mike" co-star Channing Tatum didn't like him and didn't even want to hire him for the film thanks to his "negative past" on other films, Alex said on writer Bret Easton Ellis's podcast in 2015. One producer even called the young star "cocky" and "ahead of himself." Alex also said it was partly "my own fault," as his insecurities led him to sit apart from his castmates, which caused them to think he was standoffish and self-centered.

While we now understand that addiction and emotional issues caused Lindsay Lohan's erratic behavior on the sets of many movies, for a while, this former child star was labeled one of the most toxic actresses in Tinseltown. From her stints in rehab during filming, which held up production, to her lateness and, at times, complete absences on set and even personality clashes with co-stars, Lindsay all but burned every bridge she'd built in Hollywood in a matter of a few short years.

Kanye West has a long history of feuding with other celebs, including Taylor Swift and, more recently, JAY-Z and Beyonce. Madonna (who's known for being a bit of a beast herself) even once said that working with Kanye was "a little bit of a bullfight." The temperamental music star is known to speak his mind — and then some.

Back when January Jones was on "Mad Men," she was criticized by her "X-Men: First Class" director Damon Lindelof for "sucking at acting." Other actors have also piped up about her, calling January "cold" and "rude." According to January, all the negativity only fuels her to work harder. Since joining the cast of "Last Man on Earth" starring her ex, Will Forte, there have been no complaints about her acting or her attitude.
