Winona Ryder starred as Veronica Sawyer, one of the most popular girls in school — who goes on a murder spree — in 1989's "Heathers." Life imitated art for Winona while filming "Heathers" when she had an on-set romance with Christian Slater, who played her onscreen boyfriend, J.D.

Like Veronica and J.D., Winona Ryder and Christian Slater didn't last as a couple. (They did, however, end their relationship without any explosions.) Since then, she's hooked up with some of the biggest names in music and movies from Conor Oberst and Beck to Johnny Depp and Matt Damon. She's taken a break from dating in the industry and has been in a relationship with Scott Mackinlay Hahn, CEO of ethical fashion brand Loomstate, since 2011. Winona's career really took off after "Heathers" and starring roles in "The Age of Innocence," "Reality Bites," "Little Women" and "Girl, Interrupted" followed soon after. But Winona's stock took a major nosedive in 2001 after she was arrested for using a five-finger discount on $5,500 worth of merchandise at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. She was sentenced to 480 hours of community service, three years probation and was also fined. Winona regained her leading-lady standing in 2016 when she landed the role of Joyce Bryce on Netflix's hit show "Stranger Things."

Christian Slater was creepy yet charismatic as J.D., Veronica's outsider boyfriend who's hell-bent on offing Westerberg's popular kids, in "Heathers."

In the '90s, Christian Slater was one of Hollywood's biggest heartthrobs, starring in movies like "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," "Interview With the Vampire" and "True Romance." But like J.D., Christian has had trouble staying on the right side of the law: His rap sheet includes drunk driving, trying to board an airplane while carrying a handgun, assaulting his girlfriend and sexually harassing a woman on the street. Yikes. Over the years, he's spent time behind bars and had to attend court-mandated rehab. Although his star power has faded since his heyday, Christian has continued to work pretty consistently over the years in both movies and on TV. He previously starred in "Mind Games," "Bobby" and "The Public" and currently stars on USA's "Mr. Robot." In December 2013, he married Brittany Lopez, who's 18 years his junior. He was previously married for five years to Ryan Haddon, with whom he has two kids.

Kim Walker played queen bee Heather Chandler, who owed her untimely demise to a drain-cleaner cocktail care of J.D. and Veronica, in "Heathers."

Kim Walker went on to appear in a string of movies and shows throughout the late '80s and '90s including "Highway to Heaven," "The Outsiders," "Hunter," "The Favor" and "Picket Fences." Sadly, Kim was diagnosed with a brain tumor while filming her final movie, "Killing Cinderella," in 2000 (pictured). She died one year later on March 6, 2001.

Shannen Doherty starred as Heather Duke, the new queen bee who took over for Heather Chandler after she died, in 1989's "Heathers."

Shannen Doherty's career has had its ups and downs since the '80s. She had a promising start as Brenda Walsh on "Beverly Hills, 90210," but her reported clashes with castmates caused her to be written off the show. She then starred on the hit TV show "Charmed," but Shannen continued racking up negative press for partying hard and being difficult to work with. Slowly but surely, Shannen began to turn things around in the mid-2000s. She starred in a series of commercials for Education Connection, reprised her role as Brenda on the "90210" spinoff and appeared on "Dancing With the Stars." After battling breast cancer — she was diagnosed in 2015 — Shannen went on to make "No One Would Tell" and a 2018 TV reboot of "Heathers." After quickie marriages to Ashley Hamilton and Rick Salomon, she's found lasting love with photographer-director Kurt Iswarienko, whom she married in 2011.

Lisanne Falk played Heather McNamara, a member of the popular Heathers, in 1989's "Heathers."

After "Heathers," Lisanne Falk appeared in movies like "Say Anything," "Shattered Image" and Jim Jarmusch's "Night on Earth." She hasn't appeared onscreen since 2002, when she did a short called "Casablanca." She does continue to appear at fan conventions and comic-con events in support of "Heathers," however. In 1999, Lisanne married video game producer Mark Morris in Mexico. Among the guests at the 20-person ceremony? Fellow child model Brooke Shields.

Renee Estevez starred as Betty Finn, Veronica's geeky former BFF, in "Heathers." Fun fact: Renee Estevez has acting in her blood — she's the daughter of Martin Sheen and sister of Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez.

Renee Estevez never reached the same level of fame as her father and brothers. However, she often collaborates with them, both onscreen and off. She had a recurring role on "The West Wing" with dad Martin Sheen. She also starred in brother Emilio Estevez's 2010 movie, "The Way." Renee was also a writer for brother Charlie Sheen's FX series, "Anger Management." Renee married New York chef Jason Thomas Federico in 1997. The couple, who divorced in 2011, met while attending the California Culinary Academy. Renee, who is rarely publicly photographed, is seen here in 2001.

Phill Lewis played nerdy Dennis, the editor of the high school yearbook, in "Heathers."

Phill Lewis is best known for his sitcom work, including starring as Mr. Moseby on the Disney Channel's "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and its spinoff, "The Suite Life On Deck." He's also had recurring roles on "The Wayans Bros.," "Friends" and "Yes, Dear." He most recently appeared on 2015's "Undateable." In 1991, Phill was convicted of drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter in Potomac, Maryland, after he drove over the center line and collided head-on with another car, killing the other driver. He was sentenced to a year in jail, two years probation and 350 hours of community service.
