Julianne Hough admits that she lived a very lavish life with Ryan Seacrest during their three-year romance, but she felt like she "didn't deserve" that lifestyle.
That glimpse into the finer things in life, though, made the former "Dancing With the Stars" pro want to work hard enough to provide a similar lifestyle for herself.
"I was on private planes and yachts and living in a very, very well-off house and my life was pretty different from where I grew up," she told influencer Valeria Lipovetsky on Instagram Live.
Julianne and her brother, Derek Hough, grew up in Northern Utah and practiced the Mormon religion.
While speaking about that time in her life — from 2010 to 2013 — she never mentioned Ryan's name, but she made it clear that she was speaking about him.
"It was 2013 and I had just gotten out of a relationship that was very high profile," she said. "I wanted to create that for myself because I kind of felt like I didn't deserve it. Like, I didn't earn that, so now I need to go and create that for myself."
After the split, she changed her outlook.
"During that year of my life… I just kind of went off and I did things different than I had done before," she said, adding that she found that she was happy no longer "living in a state of perfection and image and doing everything the right way."
"I kind of just was like… I'm just going to do things where I'm not going to necessarily overthink them to make sure that I'm doing everything perfect and right," she said. "'And that year, I kind of got a little lost… I was like, 'I'm 24 and I don't really know who Julianne is.'"
Julianne would go on to marry NHL player Brooks Laich in 2017. She filed for divorce earlier this month. According to The Blast, the duo had an ironclad prenuptial agreement, and she's already asked that he not receive any spousal support. She's also not seeking any from him.
