Alexander McQueen's fashions have been worn by Hollywood stars and royalty alike since the label's founding in 1992. Under the brilliant direction of its namesake, designer Alexander McQueen, and designer Sarah Burton following his 2010 suicide, the British luxury fashion house has established itself as one of the greats. From the brand's bold designs and wild prints to frocks so funky only Lady Gaga would dare to wear them, McQueen never delivers a dull red carpet moment. In honor of the documentary "McQueen," which hits theaters on July 20, 2018, Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at some of the most iconic celebrity fashion moments in the brand's history. First up is Sarah Jessica Parker's appearance alongside Alexander himself at the 2006 Met Gala! The designer dressed SJP, one of his muses, in this unconventional combination of tartan and tulle and wore a corresponding plaid kilt and sash himself. For one of the biggest weddings of the decade (tied only with the 2018 royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle), Kate Middleton, the future Duchess Kate, tapped the fashion house to make her dress in 2011. The beautiful confection, designed by Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton, featured a V-neck, a long-sleeved ivory satin bodice and a full skirt with an ultra-glam long train, all covered in French Chantilly and English Cluny lace.
Gwyneth Paltrow's polarizing 2002 Academy Awards look was Alexander McQueen. The funky black frock, which featured the illusion of a nude top and a full black skirt, was certainly a shocking and somewhat casual selection for such an important red carpet. It landed the star on many worst dressed lists, though it remains a memorable moment in Oscar fashion history. "I still love the dress itself but I should have worn a bra and I should have just had simple beachy hair and less makeup," Gwyneth wrote years later on her Goop website of the "goth" look. "Then, it would have worked as I wanted it to — a little bit of punk at the Oscars."

Back at the height of Lady Gaga's wild fashion days, Alexander McQueen played a major role in some of her memorable looks. Gaga's statement dress at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards is a prime example: The star rocked a high-neck, short-sleeved brown, red, orange and green layered tulle gown, which was accessorized with a massive gold feathered headdress.
Anytime Jennifer Lawrence doesn't wear Dior, it's an exciting fashion moment, but one of the most memorable? The Alexander McQueen two-piece look — a bralette and full skirt with multicolored floral embroidery — that she wore to the 2017 AMPAS Governors Awards.
Pushing the envelope on the red carpet is always a risky (but often rewarding) move. Whether fans love or hate the look, it will be remembered, which was the case with Cate Blanchett's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" premiere ensemble in 2008. Cate came decked out in a sparkling Alexander McQueen minidress featuring a tulip skirt, but it was the bottom later that was the most divisive: nude fabric visible underneath the plunging neckline and below the skirt.
An Olsen twin in off-white?! Alexander McQueen was instrumental in delivering a red carpet appearance that didn't feature one of the famous sisters wearing baggy black. Ashley Olsen donned this beautiful long-sleeved, high-necked cream lace gown, complete with a train, in 2010.
Fur and velvet? Alexander McQueen was able to unite both opulent elements flawlessly back in 2010 for supermodel Naomi Campbell's British Fashion Awards look: a form-fitting velvet frock that gave way to a sheer skirt well before the sheer trend was ubiquitous, all topped with a fur cape.
A forest-inspired red carpet confection? Only Alexander McQueen could pull this off flawlessly! Nicole Kidman wore the unconventionally themed long-sleeved frock to the 2017 Academy of Country Music Awards. Its cream background allowed for the leaves, trees and owl designs to really pop.
Alexander McQueen was behind one of our favorite Duchess Kate looks ever! We adored the royal's dress at the Queen's Birthday Garden Party in Germany in July 2017 especially since we rarely see her in any off-the-shoulder silhouettes! From the fun cut to the cheery cherry-red shade, Kate and Alexander McQueen certainly go well together!
Duchess Kate has remained steadfastly loyal to Alexander McQueen, repeatedly opting to wear the designer for major life events. This proved true when she chose her looks for the christenings of all three of her children. The most memorable of the ensembles? Her dress at Prince George's baptism in 2013, which was the same shade as Prince George's opulent royal christening gown and featured a sweet off-center ruffle detail down the front.
Lady in red! Alexander McQueen can obviously deliver a great red moment, and Gisele Bundchen's 2011 Met Gala look was no exception! That year, the annual fashion event's theme was actually "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty," so wearing a creation from the brand was extra meaningful. This strapless mermaid-style gown looked phenomenal on the statuesque beauty.
Black with gold polka dots? Alexander McQueen's twist on a staple looked stunning on Salma Hayek at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Her strapless design featured a tiered ruffled skirt and a tiny train too.
Rihanna arrived at the premiere of "Inglourious Basterds" in July 2009 in head-to-toe Alexander McQueen: a jumpsuit, which she accessorized with lace gloves, pearls and booties.
Though typically known for wilder designs, Sandra Bullock showed off a more elegant, classic side of Alexander McQueen at the 2014 Academy Awards. The star selected this strapless, stunning navy blue satin confection with ruching and a glamorous train — the perfect pick for one of the biggest red carpets of the year.
Janet Jackson in a pink-and-purple ombre kimono? Yep, that was Alexander McQueen. The superstar rocked the belted look at the designer's boutique opening in Los Angeles in May 2008.
This Alexander McQueen twist on a fashion staple, the LBD, was exciting! Sienna Miller memorably wore this unusual cap-sleeved black satin dress to the 2007 London Film Festival.
Alexander McQueen was responsible for turning Emma Watson into an ethereal angel at the National Movie Awards in London in September 2008. The beauty, then just 18, wore this gorgeous off-the-shoulder, wispy white creation with an embellished bodice to the event.
Gwen Stefani selected an Alexander McQueen creation for the Vanity Fair Academy Awards party back in February 2004. The rocker donned this gown featuring a gorgeous silver-and-peach patchwork bodice and delicate layered skirt, which she topped with a matching peach fur stole.
Lily Collins wore this long-sleeved, full-length multicolored frock to the Costume Designers Guild Awards in February 2017. We loved the youthful, cheery print and the way it both harkened back to original McQueen designs and welcomed a new wave for the fashion house.
Another wacky Gaga/McQueen moment? The Bambi Awards, where Lady Gaga donned an embellished gold-and-white floor-length dress complete with a matching metallic headpiece while accepting her prize in Germany in November 2011.
Sarah Jessica Parker made a fashion statement at the 2010 CFDA Awards in this loud pink-and-purple Alexander McQueen printed gown. The off-the-shoulder design culminated in a full skirt, complete with a train.
Nicole Kidman sure loves her animal-emblazoned McQueen designs! The star wore this sleeveless, high-necked ivory creation featuring a black bird design to the Evening Standard Theatre Awards in London in 2015.
Super-dramatic feathered moment? That's probably an Alexander McQueen! At the 2012 Met Gala, brand fan Cate Blanchett showed up in this floor-length black gown.
Classic McQueen! Salma Hayek stepped out in March 2010 in one of the luxury fashion house's signature wild prints. The star's minidress featured cap sleeves and a loud print in brown and red tones.
