Fashion hits and misses for December 2016

As the year comes to a close, the stars continue to serve up both wonderful and horrible fashion! Let's ease into the good, starting with this questionable selection by Kaley Cuoco. The star of "The Big Bang Theory" arrived at the 2016 Critics' Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California, on Dec. 11 in this pale pink monstrosity by Noon by Noor, which included ill-fitting pants and a billowy cropped tank top. As for the rest, well, we're going to need to get a closer look! Keep reading to investigate Kaley's ensemble and see more of the best and worst looks from December!

What's actually going on here, Kaley Cuoco? The star's look included the baggy pink pants and a top complete with floral appliqués that is both cropped in the front and long enough to be labeled a train in the back. Talk about a high-low look! We guess we can give her credit for sticking with a monochromatic pale pink though…

We're going to blame Kylie Jenner for this one. The reality star recently reprised her Halloween costume — vintage Christina Aguilera from the "Dirrty" era — and we think it might have inspired this bizarre Bella Hadid ensemble. The model wore this two-piece look to a Paper Magazine event celebrating her issues of the magazine in New York City on Dec. 16, and left us with a lot of questions. Let's get a closer look…

Bella Hadid's one-sleeved tiny top offered minimal coverage. When it came to makeup, hair and accessories, Bella kept her makeup simple, though opted for two thin braids and oversized hoop earrings with dramatic impact.

Nicole Kidman wore an Erdem look straight from the runway to the premiere of "Lion" in Sydney on Dec. 19. We love the sleek silver and blue detailing, the high neck and how the dress managed to incorporate the perfect amount of lace frills so as not to be excessively sweet. The simple top knot and black heels were the perfect complement to the look.

Hilary Swank looked like a shimmering goddess at the Huading Global Film Awards in Los Angeles on Dec. 15. The star wore this beautiful nude-colored Carolina Herrera creation to the event, and let the dress be the star by opting for minimal accessories and a simple updo.

Wacky airport style? Nobody does it better than Cara Delevingne. She made a major statement while arriving at LAX Airport in Los Angeles on Dec. 12 in rainbow block pants. And while, styled differently, we might have been into them, her decision to pair them with a bomber jacket, a light-colored beanie, glasses and pointed-toe boots made this look more messy than magnificent.

Natalie Portman showed off her baby bump at the Huading Global Film Awards in Los Angeles on Dec. 15. The pregnant star wore this beautiful navy blue patterned Erdem gown, which featured cutouts at the neckline and metallic detailing that we'll take a closer look at next.

Carrie Bradshaw would not approve, Sarah Jessica Parker! The star wore this odd printed Tracy Reese dress to the HBO España launch in Madrid on Dec. 15, and even the simple black Chanel jacket she topped it off with couldn't save the look.

Helen Mirren's in the spirit! The actress attended the "Collateral Beauty" premiere in London on Dec. 15 in this beautiful — and festive — red Jacques Azagury dress, which featured a high neck and pretty, sheer lace sleeves.

We think Idina Menzel might have mixed up her holidays. The star attended the 10th Annual CNN Heroes Tribute in New York City on Dec. 11 in this gothic-inspired getup, which looked more like a Halloween costume than a red carpet look.

The Fanning sisters can always be counted on for a great and unexpected style moment. This month, Dakota Fanning perfected the cool-girl holiday party look in this pale pink trousers and blazer combo by Abriela Heart, which she wore to the Holiday Celebration at The Line in New York City on Dec. 14. Dakota paired it with a cream ribbed top underneath and simple black heels for a unique and surprisingly effective color combination.

Marion Cotillard's pregnancy style certainly hasn't been our favorite. The star delivered another odd look at the "Assassin's Creed" premiere in New York City on Dec. 13. The black chiffon Andrew Gn gown is fine, but what she put on top? Let's get a better look…

Marion Cotillard's Andrew Gn dress already had a dramatic moment thanks to its chiffon train, so this odd fur-embellished, floral-patterned, beaded and tasseled navy cape on top just seems excessive.

Obsessed! Kerry Washington arrived at the 2016 Critics' Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California, on Dec. 11 in this gem of an Elie Saab look. The minidress, which was worn by Victoria's Secret Angel Sara Sampaio on the runway two months ago, featured a full tulle skirt and a fun star motif.

Pamela Anderson made an appearance on "Top Model Belgium" in Paris on Dec. 18 in this unfortunate frock. Though the pattern of the Vivienne Westwood dress was fine, the uneven neckline and leveled hemline fell flat.

Viola Davis hit it out of the park at the "Fences" screening in New York City on Dec. 19. The star wore this sleek asymmetrical one-shouldered Cinq a Sept pink-and-black gown, which fit her like a glove and instantly became her best look of the year.

Zoey Deutch went with a staple — sleek, metallic Balmain — for the the "Why Him?" premiere in Los Angeles on Dec. 17. The 22-year-old actress rocked the drapey frock well, and her makeup was exceptionally on-point. Check it out…

Bryce Dallas Howard gave us major New Year's Eve inspiration in this beautiful one-shouldered sequined gown. The star wore the festive frock to the Huading Global Film Awards in Los Angeles on Dec. 15, and it makes us want to start the countdown to 2017 early.

Sarah Paulson has spent most of 2016 topping the list of our favorite looks, but her 2016 Critics' Choice Awards ensemble on Dec. 11 fell flat for us. The peplum seems passe for the typically fashion-forward star, and though the Vera Wang pearl-embellished look was polished, it just seemed off-brand.

Karolina Kurkova rocked this edgy yet feminine two-piece combo to the Glamour Awards in Milan on Dec. 14. The former Victoria's Secret Angel paired the metallic ensemble with black ankle boots and tousled waves, which all added up to one of our favorite looks of the month.

That's two strikes, Kaley Cuoco! The star attended the "Why Him?" premiere in Los Angeles on Dec. 17 in this matronly Tadashi Shoji frock. But it's not just the dress that we hated — the patterned navy round-toed heels really locked this look down as a miss.

Emma Stone wore this beautiful bright yellow Rochas gown that came straight from the runway for a pretty important occasion — her hand and footprint cementing ceremony outside Hollywood's famed TCL Chinese Theatre on Dec. 7.

Salma Hayek attended the Fashion Awards in London on Dec. 5 in an apropos look for December… since it looks very similar to a wrapping-paper print. Salma's loud Gucci gown was topped off with accessories that really didn't help matters. Let's take a closer look…

Classic and elegant! While we don't always use those words when talking about Lady Gaga's style, they're perfect to describe the dress she wore to the Fashion Awards in London on Dec. 5. The all-black creation by her stylist, Brandon Maxwell, featured a halter neckline and paired well with her simple slicked-back hairstyle.

Oh, Paris Hilton. It's not 2003! The former reality star attended Aby Rosen & Samantha Boardman-Rosen's annual dinner during Art Basel in Miami on Dec. 1 decked out in this metallic baby-doll dress that was in fashion, well, back when Paris was super-popular.

Jennifer Aniston stayed true to her favorite dress silhouette when she attended the premiere of her flick "Office Christmas Party" in Los Angeles on Dec. 7. The star wore this Roberto Cavalli print gown and kept her hair simple and sleek for an overall relaxed but chic look.

Pamela Anderson went gray for the Stella McCartney store Christmas lights switching-on ceremony in London on Dec. 7. And while we admire both her dedication to animal rights as well as her faux-fur coat, we're not as into the odd turtleneck dress underneath paired with similarly colored heels.

We loved the Elie Saab minidress that Reese Witherspoon wore to the premiere of "Sing" in Los Angeles on Dec. 3. The star kept her accessories, like those simple ankle-strap heels, to a minimum, letting her glam gown shine.

Velvet is a trend that we wish would stay forever! Ashley Graham exemplified why at the "VH1 Divas Holiday: Unsilent Night" taping in New York City on Dec. 2. The model rocked this gorgeous red long-sleeved velvet minidress at the event, and it's giving us major holiday-party style inspiration.

Big polka dots on the red carpet? That's almost always going to be a no from us. Camila Alves attended the premiere of "Sing" in Los Angeles on Dec. 3 in this off-the-shoulder number, which featured dots of different colors and sizes, landing her among the misses this month.

Felicity Jones opted for a less seasonal look at the "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" premiere in Tokyo on Dec. 7 when she showed up wearing red, white and blue. Though we love the star's black platform heels, we're just not as into her bibbed Gucci dress.

Chrissy Teigen went winter white at the premiere of "The Toycracker" in New York City on Dec. 7. The model donned a sparkly embroidered top with crisp white pants and heels for a fabulous and fashionable look.

There's a time and a place for everything, including gingham… like maybe a picnic? And since Emmy Rossum was at the Lincoln Center's Fall Gala in New York City on Dec. 6, we're a little confused as to why she opted for an all-gingham ball gown by Carolina Herrera.

We're in love with Naomie Harris' selection for the British Independent Film Awards in London on Dec. 4. The star opted for this sequin-embroidered Gucci minidress, which not only provided a pretty pop of color but also featured a fun frilled neckline and the perfect amount of tulle.

This is one trend we hope doesn't stick — the turtleneck dress. Karlie Kloss rocked one, which was made worse by short sleeves, in London on Dec. 5.

Yikes, Tinashe! This is not the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show runway! The singer attended 102.7 KIIS FM's Jingle Ball in Los Angeles on Dec. 2 in this barely there getup, and not even the thigh-high boots and faux-fur jacket could save the look.

Sophie Turner brought bellbottoms to the red carpet and executed the look flawlessy while attending the Women in Film and Television Awards in London on Dec. 2. The "Game of Thrones" beauty paired the pretty emerald-colored trousers with a simple long-sleeved black top for a surprisingly chic red carpet look. Next, let's take a closer look at the details…

Sophie Turner topped off her simple yet stylish bellbottoms and long-sleeved top look with a long black blazer, which we definitely approve of, but it's her accessories that we're really into. The actress opted to layer her gold necklaces and jazzed up her look with funky earrings.

Yikes! We're going to assume that purple dress underneath the black cloak is super-pretty, but it might remain a mystery. Hilary Swank kept her dress obscured by this cape-like coat while attending Mon Cheri Barbara Day in Munich, Germany, on Dec. 2.

We always love Bryce Dallas Howard's style, and her gown at the Fifth Annual Breakthrough Prize Ceremony in Mountain View, California, on Dec. 4 was no exception. The star rocked this pretty, glam black number with a plunging neckline and a glimmering print, landing herself on our list of hit looks.

What's going on, Malin Akerman? The star wore this confusing red dress — a minidress with a turtleneck and a bizarre sleeve length — at the "Billions" Season 2 preview event at the Paley Center for Media in New York City on Dec. 5.

We're a little surprised we're saying this considering most of her outfits of late, but we kind of like this look on Mariah Carey. The superstar might be the only one who can pull off this level of hot pink, but her dress at the "VH1 Divas Holiday: Unsilent Night" taping in New York City on Dec. 2 really worked for us.
