A few weeks before Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth announced their separation, their friends, "The Hills: New Beginnings" stars Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter, announced that their six-year relationship had come to an end 14 months after they committed themselves to one another in a 2018 wedding ceremony in Bali (it was later revealed it wasn't legally binding). Kaitlynn and Brody reportedly met in 2013 at a party and quickly became an item. Less than three years later, Brody announced their engagement in a sweet Instagram post: "On May 4th 2016 I got engaged to my lover and my best friend Kaitlynn Carter. I couldn't be more in love with this woman and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with her." Shortly after their breakup news was made public, Kaitlynn had moved on with Miley — from whom she soon split in September 2019 — and Brody started seeing model Josie Canseco.

Although the relationship between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was founded amid controversy — they've both admitted they fell in love while filming 2005's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" together when Brad was still married to Jennifer Aniston — their nearly 12-year romance still made them one of Hollywood's golden couples. They were together for more than nine years and had six children when they finally tied the knot in August 2014. But Brangelina's marriage came to a shocking end shortly after their two-year wedding anniversary in 2016 when Angelina filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Although the couple kept silent on the cause of their marriage's demise, reports indicated that it imploded after Brad and their then-15-year-old son Maddox got into a heated fight while on a private plane, which led to a Child Protective Services investigation that ultimately cleared Brad of any wrongdoing. In 2017, Brad opened up about their split, revealing it was "self-inflicted" and that he'd since gotten sober.

British songstress Adele and husband Simon Konecki announced their separation on April 19, 2019. The Grammy winner — who took her romance with the water charity founder public in early 2012 and welcomed a son, Angelo, with him later that year — filed for divorce on Sept. 12, 2019. Interestingly, though Adele made headlines when she called Simon her "husband" during an acceptance speech at the Grammys in February 2017, her divorce documents reveal that they didn't actually legally marry until May 4, 2018. So during their seven-and-a-half-year relationship, they were really only husband and wife for less than a year!

The contentious divorce between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp made bigger headlines than their four-year romance ever did. After meeting in 2009 on the set of their film "The Rum Diary," Johnny and Amber began dating in 2012 following his split from French singer-actress star Vanessa Paradis. Just three years later, the couple married on Little Hall's Pond Cay — Johnny's private island in the Bahamas. A year after they wed, however, there were rumors of trouble in the tabloids and by May 2016, Amber had filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Days later, she filed for a restraining order against Johnny, providing photographic evidence of bruises she claimed he gave her after throwing a cellphone at her face. The former couple began a public mudslinging feud marked by video and photo leaks and more he said/she said accusations of violence and abuse. Then, as quickly as their divorce battle began, it ended on Aug. 16, 2016, with the couple issuing a joint statement that read: "Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm." Johnny reportedly paid Amber a $7 million divorce settlement, which she promised to donate to charity. But the pair have continued to feud, with Johnny suing Amber for defamation in a case that's still playing out.

Ultra-private "Avengers" franchise star Jeremy Renner reportedly began dating Canadian model-actress Sonni Pacheco in 2011. The couple welcomed a daughter named Ava in 2013 and, after three years together, married in September 2014. Their marriage didn't make it through the first year, with the couple separating just 10 months later. Although their divorce was finalized in December 2015, the drama isn't over yet. In September 2019, Sonni filed for sole legal and physical custody of their daughter, sparking a response from Jeremy in which he asked the court for the same thing. They're due to hash it out in court in November 2019.

Thanks to an entire playlist of angry rap songs about his ex, Eminem's tumultuous relationship with Kim Mathers is no secret. The couple met in their youth in 1988 and shortly after started living together. For the next decade, they would break up and get back together repeatedly, even after welcoming their daughter, Hailie Mathers, to the world in 1995. The first time they married in 1999, they'd already been together for nearly 11 years. Coincidentally, that was also the same year Eminem released a song about killing Kim — one of many he would record. Their marriage only lasted two years before they filed for divorce in 2001 following Eminem's claims that Kim cheated on him. After a bitter and very public end to their marriage, the couple somehow managed to forgive and forget, eventually reuniting and remarrying in 2006. Their second marriage lasted an even shorter amount of time — three months — before they embarked on another volatile divorce battle. In 2013, reports surfaced the pair had rekindled their romance yet again, although neither Eminem nor Kim confirmed those rumors. In 2017, Eminem dropped an apology song dedicated to Kim called "Bad Husband."

Audrina Patridge and Corey Bohan's rocky relationship began in 2008. The couple, who routinely appeared together on episodes of "The Hills" and "Audrina" broke up and got back together so many times over the course of eight years, it was kind of a surprise they even made it to the altar in 2016. Just five months after welcoming daughter Kirra to the world, Audrina and Corey tied the knot in Hawaii. Unfortunately, parenthood and marriage couldn't fix the couple's problems and in September 2017, just 10 months after marrying, Audrina requested a temporary restraining order against Corey for domestic violence and filed for divorce two days later.

Six years of dating led actor and TV host Mario Lopez and beauty queen-turned-actress Ali Landry to a marriage that lasted all of two weeks. Ali sought an annulment after learning that Mario had cheated on her days before their wedding on April 24, 2004. Years after their split, Ali revealed to talk show host Wendy Williams in 2012 that she discovered her former husband's infidelity by tapping his phone after hearing rumors he'd cheated. Of the pivotal realization, she said, "I confronted him and he still, to this day, denied it and never apologized. It was horrible." In Mario's 2014 memoir, "Just Between Us," the actor confessed that he did cheat, explaining, "I got inebriated and a little too friendly with a young lady. When it was time to return home, lightning hit me with the truth: I wasn't in love. But I walked down the aisle."

Jennifer Aniston seemed to have finally found her prince charming in Justin Theroux. Not long after he and Jen co-starred in the comedy "Wanderlust," he broke up with his costume designer girlfriend of 14 years and went public with the former "Friends" star in 2011. In 2012, Justin popped the question with an eight-carat diamond on his birthday. Three years later, the couple exchanged vows at their home in Los Angeles's Bel Air neighborhood. Their wedded bliss lasted a little more than two years: They announced on Feb. 15, 2018, that they'd split in late 2017. Later that year, Justin broke his silence on the breakup, calling the process "painful" while clarifying that it "was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity."

Immediately following Usher's 2009 divorce from Tameka Foster, he and Grace Miguel — his former manager — stepped out as a new couple. In 2015, after nearly six years together and a one-year engagement, they quietly married in Cuba. The marriage wouldn't last long, however, as two years later, the couple separated, with Usher finally filing for divorce in 2018 in the wake of accusations from multiple women that the R&B singer had herpes and engaged in sexual relationships without revealing his STD diagnosis, claims he's denied.

Jim Carrey and Lauren Holly met on the set of their comedy "Dumb and Dumber" in 1994 and quickly became an item. Following Jim's 1995 divorce from his first wife, Melissa Womer, he proposed to Lauren and they got married in 1996 after about two years of dating. But their union wouldn't last long: They split nine months later and soon filed for divorce. Lauren claimed the tension in their relationship was caused by unrelenting paparazzi who invaded their privacy and made their time together miserable.

"The Simpsons" voice actor Hank Azaria and "Mad About You" actress Helen Hunt dated from 1994 to 1999 before marrying on July 17, 1999. The private couple were seen smiling on numerous awards show red carpets, which made their sudden separation less than a year after marrying all the more confusing. After citing irreconcilable differences, their marriage was officially dissolved in December 2000.

Former "Saturday Night Live" star Chris Kattan began dating model Sunshine Tutt in 2005 and by the following year, they were engaged to be married. Their wedding took place on June 28, 2008, but the marriage came to an abrupt end just eight weeks later. Although we're not sure exactly what caused their three-year relationship to derail, some reports have claimed that both parties were cheating.

The love affair between model-actress Pamela Anderson and music star Kid Rock went from hot to cold more times than we can count. They met in 2001 and got engaged the following year, only to break up in 2003. The tempestuous pair would eventually reunite and by July 2006, decided to try life as husband and wife. After three separate wedding ceremonies over the span of a few days, the former Playboy model and Kid Rock seemed to be enjoying wedded bliss. Then, that November, the music star filed for divorce after allegedly growing angry and jealous after seeing Pam's work in the 2006 film "Borat."

Similar to her relationship with Kid Rock, Pamela Anderson and poker pro Rick Salomon's dating history lasted far longer than their marriages. The longtime friends, who'd apparently been close for 17 years before their relationship turned romantic, wed for the first time in October 2007, only to have their marriage annulled two months later. Pamela shared with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that she and Rick maintained a "friends with benefits" relationship that eventually evolved into a rekindled love affair. In January 2014, the two once again walked down the aisle. This time, their marriage lasted all of six months before Pam filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Although the pair briefly reconciled, they ultimately didn't last. Their divorce was finalized in April 2015.

It might be a stretch to call the relationship between Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush long, but this former couple definitely dated longer than they were able to stay married. Together for two years after meeting on the set of "One Tree Hill," Chad and Sophia exchanged vows on April 16, 2005, but endured an ugly, public breakup just five months later. Sophia attempted to have their union annulled, but a judge denied her request, forcing them to file for divorce, which took more than a year to be finalized. Sophia later claimed she never wanted to marry Chad but felt pressured to do so because she didn't want to "let everyone down."

The marriage between actress Penelope Ann Miller and actor Will Arnett was so short, you might not have realized it even happened. The couple dated for just over a year after meeting in 1993 and got married on Dec. 9, 1994. Unfortunately for them, happily ever after wasn't in their future: Just 23 days after saying "I do," the couple filed for divorce. Not much else is known about their short-lived union.

Britney Spears and Jason Alexander were childhood friends who knew one another from Britney's days in Kentwood, Louisiana. The two may or may not have been an item before they shocked the world in 2004 when they got married in a quickie ceremony in Las Vegas. Knowing each other since elementary school didn't equate to a lasting marriage, however. Just 55 hours later, their surprise union was annulled, with Britney saying they'd done it "just for the hell of it."

Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose was so smitten with girlfriend Erin Everly that she reportedly inspired his band's hit song "Sweet Child O' Mine" (she also appeared in the track's music video). The couple met in 1986 when Erin — the daughter of British film actress Venetia Stevenson and Everly Brothers singer Don Everly — was just 20. Four years later on April 28, 1990, the couple married. But just two days later, Erin reportedly wanted their union annulled. The marriage was eventually dissolved by January 1991, with Axl later telling reporters, "Erin and I treated each other like s—."

We almost forgot that Tom Green and Drew Barrymore were even a thing, let alone once husband and wife. The couple began dating in early 2000 and were together for more than a year before marrying on July 7, 2001. While their premarital relationship wasn't that long, it was longer than their marriage, which only lasted nine short months before Tom filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
