Grimes talks pandemic pregnancy challenges, shuts down Elon Musk
Shortly after giving birth to a human this week, Grimes noticed her partner Elon Musk had taken the liberty of correcting one small detail in her elaborate Twitter explanation of their son's equally elaborate name, X Æ A-12. The singer had broken down each character's meaning, telling fans the end of the name referred to "the precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft.) "SR-71, but yes," Musk noted on Wednesday, May 6. Grimes, fresh out of labor, responded to her boyfriend: "I am recovering from surgery and barely alive so may my typos b forgiven but, damnit. That was meant to be profound," (via Page Six). Elon duly noted the "barely alive" thing and assured his lady, "U r a powerful [fairy emojis]." We hope he followed that up with gifts of roses, champagne and maybe a new car, because not only did the woman just have his baby, she did so after staying calm and healthy through weeks of global sickness, fear and intense emotions — and after losing a friend, presumably to COVID. As she told Vogue Italia in a piece published this week, "It is certainly very demanding to be pregnant in the middle of a pandemic. It's hard not to be able to see friends and family." Grimes, still pregnant when she gave the interview, continued (via USAToday): "A friend of mine recently died and it was a nightmare not being able to be close to her loved ones. It won't be easy in the hospital, I don't go into details but I feel very empathetic with those who are going through this phase. And I trust what the maternity wards are doing to manage the situation, I have great respect for the work of the doctors."

Lady Gaga is hawking 'Chromatica' thongs
At a time when TV reporters are appearing on the air, sans pants, it's only fitting that we should celebrate a pop star's new music with album-branded undies, no? On Wednesday, Lady Gaga finally announced her new album, "Chromatica" will be out May 29. By Thursday, a whole lot of Gaga's fans had noticed a new item in the "Chromatica" merch options on the singer's website. Yep, in addition to the usual branded T-shirts and other traditional goodies, Lady G is hawking stay-at-home ready merch including thongs and briefs screen-printed with a graffiti-esque "Chromatica" album shoutout. And don't worry — for those of you who have yet to graduate from working from home in sweats to skipping the pants altogether, Gaga's got your back, courtesy of "Chromatica" sweatpants. As one impressed Instagram user noted (via Billboard), the move is nothing if not business-savvy. "Lady gaga is really selling briefs and thongs along with the album lmao," wrote the fan. "We stan a business woman."
Neve Campbell is 'negotiating' to join 'Scream 5' cast
The world could soon see Sidney Prescott return to the town of Woodsboro in "Scream 5." "We're having conversations. I have been approached about it," Neve Campbell told Rotten Tomatoes (via EW). "The timing's a bit challenging because of COVID. You know, we only started the conversation maybe a month and a half ago, so it's going to take some time to figure out how it's all going to work out… We're negotiating, so we'll see." The long-running, trope-filled horror-comedies first debuted back in 1996, with West Craven at the helm and Neve in the lead role. Five years after the legendary director's death, Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are reportedly working to get the fifth installment off the ground. According to EW, Neve said in a video interview that has come and gone from YouTube that she was "really apprehensive about doing another 'Scream' without Wes because he was such a genius." She seems to have changed her mind after hearing from the new, would-be directors, who she said sent her "a very touching letter about Wes Craven and how he was such an inspiration to them and how they really want to honor him." Neve added: "That meant a great, great deal to me," she remarked. "So we'll see. Hopefully, we can all see eye to eye on the project and find a way to make it." David Arquette has also recently expressed interest in returning to the franchise, telling ET he doesn't know what the plan is for "Scream 5," including whether certain characters would return. "I love playing Dewey," David said. "so I would always love to be a part of it."
Miley Cyrus is well aware that she's enjoying privileges others don't have when it comes to staying safe during the COVID crisis. The singer also understands that connecting with people via her new "Bright Minded" program on Instagram Live requires some delicacy when it comes to talking to other celebs about their experiences. "I know I'm in a unique position, and my experience with this pandemic is not like most everyone else's in my country and around the world," she says in a new interview with WSJ magazine (via Page Six). "My life has been pushed pause on, but really I have no idea what this pandemic is like. I am comfortable in my space and able to put food on my table and [I am] financially stable, and that's just not the story for a lot of people." In fact, she said, that disparity could factor into some stars' decisions about whether to appear on the show, "… because it almost doesn't feel right for celebrities to share our experience. Because it just doesn't compare." On the other hand, she's often delighted to hear back from potential guests she's invited by simply contacting them through social media. "I am the ultimate slide-into-the-DMs," Miley quipped. When she reached out to Reese Witherspoon on a whim, for example, Miley said she assumed Reese wouldn't even respond to her message. "And then she answered and said she would love to give me a couple minutes," the singer said. Of course, she also gets radio silence sometimes: "I get some messages that say 'seen' [and no response], which I guess is a no … then I'll send a smiley face emoji for like 10 days in a row."
Quincy Jones loses nearly $10M in Michael Jackson royalties case
Quincy Jones' long-running royalties lawsuit against Michael Jackson's estate just went sideways for the iconic music producer. An appeals court in California ruled on Tuesday that a $9.4 million judgment made in Jones' favor was an error. The court reversed the decision — stripping Jones of nearly $10 mil — on grounds it was made by a 2017 trial jury when the judge overseeing the trial should have made the call, since the claim boiled down to contract interpretation, according to USA Today. Jones initially filed the suit in 2013 claiming he was owed more than the standard fee a producer would get for the work he did on remixes and the licensing of "This Is It" masters, all of which he did in the wake of MJ's 2009 death. Jones was able to keep $2.6 million of the money he won in court before the estate appealed — and before Jones cross-appealed.
Why Zoe Kravitz takes offense to questions about motherhood plans
At 31, Zoe Kravitz has almost one year of marriage under her belt, having tied the knot with Karl Glusman in Paris last June. And she's been more than a little busy with work, thanks to her hit shows "Euphoria," "Big Little Lies" and "High Fidelity." None of this has stopped folks from pressuring her about a certain cultural expectation that comes after the proverbial love and marriage. "A lot of people ask the question, 'When are you gonna have a baby?' or say things like, 'When's the baby?' and I really get offended by people assuming that's something that I have to do because society says so," she recently told Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast (via ET). "So, I don't know. Right now, I'm certainly not in a place where I think I'm able to do that just 'cause of work, and also just, man, I don't know, I like my free time." She went on to point out that guys aren't asked the same baby plan questions — and said some people just don't have a master life plan ready to go. "I have a lot of female friends who have always known they've wanted kids, and part of me is jealous of women who just know," she said. "It's kind of like people who know what they want to do for a living and people who don't. It's a luxury to know what you want to do and to know where you're heading."
