Why Reese Witherspoon opts for brutal honesty with her kids
Hollywood's favorite twinning mother-daughter team is fueled, at least in part, by brutal honesty. That's according to Reese Witherspoon, who tells Fast Company she's all for a bit in Chris Rock's latest Netflix special where he talks about telling his kids the truth about the world and their place in it, no matter how awful it may be for them to hear. "I feel like I'm constantly counteracting pressure from the parents who want to make the lives of their kids golden and magical at all moments!" Reese says. "Guess what, kids? You're going to be disappointed and uncomfortable once in a while." She goes on to recall one interaction with her now 19-year-old daughter, Ava Phillippe, that Ava found particularly harsh. "I remember Ava crying in bed in third grade — she was on JV basketball and she was the only kid on the team who didn't score," Reese shared. "I said, 'Aves, maybe you're bad at basketball.' She thought that was mean. I said, 'Mean or true? 'Cause, guess what? Your mom's bad at basketball, too.'"
Jenna Jameson shows off another dramatic weight loss snap
"Exercise is starting to pay off." So says an increasingly slim and chiseled looking Jenna Jameson in the latest before-and-after Instagram selfies she shared to show off her 80 pound weight loss. "Yes I've lost the weight I wanted, but I want to feel toned. At my age it isn't easy. I'm almost 45. Honestly I despise the gym. I feel self conscious and anxious when I'm there. So I told myself I would strengthen myself by hiking with [my daughter] Batel, walking as much as possible and run stairs. It's working. This progression proves you don't have to spend hours in a gym… get out, move your body and live life!!!!" she explained. It's the second pair of weight loss shots the former adult film star has shared this month and the second in which she used hash tags to tell followers she's been on a controversial ketogenic diet, a low-carb approach to weight loss that many health experts have deemed to be extremely dangerous in the long term. After her last selfie snaps surfaced online, the New York Post checked in with registered dietician Brigitte Zeitlin, who said Jenna's likely consuming way below a healthy number of calories each day and is fasting for too long between meals. "Eventually when you do decide to eat more food [after intermittent fasting] you'll gain weight back and likely overeat and over binge because you've been starving and depriving yourself for so long," she said at the time. "… [It's] not something I typically recommend unless you've been instructed to do so by your physician for some other medical reason."

After seeing his new Rolling Stone cover story this week, Shawn Mendes took to Twitter to share his concern that the magazine hadn't shown the "positive" aspects of what he discussed with the interviewer, which ranged from why he always feels like he has to defend his sexuality to the truth about his relationship with his now-married Met Gala date, Hailey Baldwin. Amber Heard on what happens when a woman alleges abuse against a man
Amber Heard isn't taking Hollywood's built-in gender inequities sitting down. As the "Aquaman" actress explains in Glamour's January 2019 cover story, she recently joined the civil rights-focused group Rise and she is committed to continuing to fight for fairness across the board when it comes to both the work and personal lives of women. "There's an implicit apology expected of me for my participation in feminine beauty, but I can't play into this false narrative that my sexuality is mutually exclusive from my power… ," she says when asked about roles that demand she use her beauty and sex appeal as part of the character. "My sexuality, my femininity, in whatever way I want to express it, is mine and my own," she adds. Amber also seems to address the domestic abuse she has said she experienced at the hands of her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, though she never mentions him by name. (He has denied her abuse allegations.) "When a woman comes forward, she will be met with skepticism, hostility, and shame," she said of speaking out about sexual harassment, assault or abuse. "All a man has to do is point to an incentive. He will. Or society will." She also calls Hollywood an "inherently flawed system," telling the magazine, "We get paid less as women, and we end up spending more time on set, because of hair and makeup demands." Finally, Amber opens up about appealing to Arizona Senatyor Jeff Flake after Christine Blasey Ford testified before the Senate to accuse Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault. She says watching the testimony left her on the floor in tears: "We as women took a collective punch to the gut."
Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk are 'happier than ever' despite Go-Go's musical problems
When Gwyneth Paltrow first revealed she was producing a musical about The Go-Go's based on a 16th Century prose poem called "The Arcadia," the project seemed, well, risky, to say the least. Now, even as Broadway ticket sales are soaring, Gwyneth's production is planning to close early due on Jan. 6, due to box office woes, according to the New York Post. Luckily, things are going much better at home for the newly minted Mrs. Brad Falchuk actress and GOOP founder. Speaking to People this week, Ryan Murphy gushed that Gwyneth and Brad are "happier than ever" after having tied the knot on Sept. 29 in the Hamptons. "They're both so great. If you met them, you would root for their love story," said Ryan, who seemed quite happy to take a little credit for hooking the two up in his work on shows including "Glee." (He also hosted their engagement party.) "It's quite a love story, and I'm close to both of them from different periods in my life," Ryan continued. "I introduced them, so I have particular ownership in their love story. I'm very proud of that." Ryan was also pleased to find share how successful the two have been in bringing their children from previous relationships together. "Family matters first to them," he said. "They both have two children from other marriages and they've really done, I think, an exemplary job in melding their families, and their children always come first."
Kim Cattrall nixed 'SATC 3' in part because of this very unsavory storyline
The reasons for Kim Cattrall's disinterest in participating in a third installment of the "Sex and the City" movie keep on comin'. It seems there were issues beyong the fact the script for the would-be sequel revolved around Carrie dealing with the death of (spoiler/not spoiler) Big, thereby prioritizing her romance way above the relationships between the main women stars. An insider tells E! News "it was a bad script," "not great money" for Kim and "a bad storyline for [Kim's character] Samantha," whose main plot concern involved being sexted by Miranda's 14-year-old son, Brady. Er … Maybe the wrong storyline in an industry that's buried beneath the weight of #MeToo and #TimesUp lawsuits and allegations?
Lena Dunham lists Williamsburg, Brooklyn home for $3M
Goodbye, Brooklyn, hello (again), Manhattan. New York City native and "Girls" creator Lena Dunham recently put her airy, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, condo on the market for $3 million, according to Variety. She'd already announced in an interview with New York Magazine that she's now living in the Big Apple's West Village, where she says she's enjoyed being among the "old people puttering around the health food store" versus the increasingly upscale hipster enclave where her condo is located. She owns a home in Los Angeles as well. As for the three bedroom, two-and-a-half bath condo, it features sprawling city views from its perch atop a corner of the southern side of the neighborhood. She reportedly bought the pad earlier this year for $2.9 million after splitting from her longtime boyfriend, Jack Antonoff — a breakup she recently admitted caused her to fall out of touch with her once close good friend Lorde in the wake of rumors the singer was involved with Lena's ex.
Richard Simmons drops appeal in transgender defamation lawsuit
Richard Simmons is giving up his court battle against the media company that owns the "National Enquirer." According to TMZ, the fitness legend has agreed to drop his appeal against American Media after a judge ruled he had not been defamed by stories that claimed he was undergoing a gender reassignment. At the time, the judge pointed out that being called "transgender," even if it's incorrect, does not automatically expose a person to "Hatred, contempt and ridicule," as Richard had alleged. Richard appealed the ruling at first. Now, both sides have agreed not to pursue the suit, TMZ reports. Richard is still suing a private investigator he says tried to prove Richard was having a sex change by poutting tracking devices on him.
