Jennifer Lopez opens up about building an empire with fiance Alex Rodriguez
When the world first learned Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez were in talks to buy the Mets, more than a few eyebrows were raised, given J.Lo's demanding (and lucrative) career as a singer and actress and her fiance's past as a hero for the Yankees, a team Mets fans have long loved to hate. But as Jennifer prepares to launch her first skincare line in January, it's clear she and Alex are quite serious — and very much a team — when it comes to business matters. "Why can't we build not one multibillion-dollar business, but three or four?" the 51-year-old star, who's already worth an estimated $400 million, asks in WSJ's new cover story. "When Alex came into my life, he was like, 'Let's build your skincare company. This is a dream of yours. Let's do it together. Let's own it,'" she recalls, explaining how he inspires that aspect of her work. "It's like when somebody opens up your eyes to something new, it's like a broadened horizon," she says. "I think where we're twin souls, or whatever term you want to use, is in the way that there are no limits. We can do anything. We both have that DNA … like, why not?" Not that Alex is the only inspiration for Jen when it comes to expanding her brand — that's something she's wanted to do since at least 2003, when she launched her fragrance, Glow by JLo. "I realized this when I sat down with my perfume company and they showed me all these numbers. And they said to me, 'We've made a billion dollars,'" she recalled. "I'm sitting there going, 'You made a billion dollars? I came up with the perfume. I came up with the name. I'm marketing it. It's my face in the ads. I didn't make that kind of money. Where is the billion dollars?'" She may have her answer to that question soon. The multihyphenate's new line, JLO Beauty, launches Jan. 1.

Jordan is the outlet's new Sexiest Man Alive, an update that comes with both good news — the "Black Panther" star confirms he's single in his new cover story — and bad news — he admits he has "a list" of attributes his ideal soul mate should possess. How Lori Loughlin is handling prison, three weeks into her sentence
As Mossimo Giannulli prepares to begin his five-month prison sentence on Thursday, Nov. 19, his wife, Lori Loughlin, is already three weeks into her two-month sentence for the couple's role in the college admissions scandal. And according to a new report from People, things are going as well as can be expected, so far. "She has not had any specific problems," says a source who has reportedly spoken with the actress since she arrived. "No one has tried any s— with her. No one is bullying her. The guards aren't treating her any differently than other inmates." It wasn't necessarily all smooth sailing for Lori, who the source admits was "a little weepy" on her first day there. "But she pulled herself together quickly," the insider adds. "Now she's resolved to finish her sentence with her head held high." That may be in part thanks to the adviser Lori reportedly hired months ago — prior to her May 22 guilty plea — to help prepare her for the prospect of spending time behind bars. In the plea deal that was approved Aug. 21, Lori pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud. Mossimo, meanwhile, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and one count of honest services wire and mail fraud. The couple reportedly paid $500,000 to scandal mastermind Rick Singer to get their daughters into U.S.C. as fake rowing recruits.

George Clooney rehashes one of Brad Pitt's most irritating (and hilarious) pranks
It's no secret George Clooney and Brad Pitt are among Hollywood's biggest pranksters, but these two stars in particular seem to really love working together — or against one another — when it comes to their years-long history of fun trickery. In a recent edition of GQ's "Iconic Characters" video series, George reflected on one of Brad's more annoying pranks — and how it affected his rep in Lake Como, Italy, where he lives. It seems that prior to shooting "Ocean's Twelve" scenes in Lake Como, Brad helpfully gave locals a heads-up on George's forthcoming arrival to Italy. "Brad sent out a memo to all the people in the town — my town, I've lived there for years," George explains in the clip. "But he had it posted on telephone poles. It said, 'The movie is coming to town, and please only address George Clooney as 'Mr. Clooney,' and his character's name is Danny Ocean, and don't look him right in the eyes." It had the desired effect, apparently. "So the papers were like, 'George Clooney is Il Divo!'" George continued. "It was a horrible story, which I later got him back for." According to an old MTV.com story, George got Brad back by slapping a bumper sticker on his car that advertised the, uh, not so impressive size of a certain part of male anatomy. "People were honking at him and waving," George and Brad's co-star Matt Damon recalled. "And he thinks it's because he's Brad Pitt and he's waving back."
Matthew McConaughey responds to Kate Hudson's gripe about their gross kiss in 'Fool's Gold'
Matthew McConaughey would like a little leeway when it comes to the lack of kissing prowess when he shot 2008's "Fool's Gold" with Kate Hudson. During an appearance on Gwyneth Paltrow's GOOP podcast last month, Kate and Gwyneth were trading bad onscreen kiss war stories when Kate called out Matthew, whose lips were somewhat regular smooch partners for hers in the stars' rom-com heydays. "The thing is, every time I kiss McConaughey, it's like there's just something happening and there's like snot or wind," she told Gwyneth. "When we were kissing in the end of 'Fool's Gold,' we're like in the ocean, we had the plane crash. He just had snot all over his face." Asked about the incident in a recent interview with Yahoo!, Matthew explained that the circumstances were a little more complex than straight-up snot face. "It's like, 'OK, here's the scene: You've just jumped from the helicopter. You're in the middle of the ocean," he said, recalling the action instructions he had for the scene. "You go under the water," he continued, "…so on action, go into the water and then come up out of the water like you're gasping for air. You're glad to be alive! Then you look at each other and you swim to each other and [go] into an embrace." Then he broke that down: "Well, there's a lot of salt water and snot and all kinds of stuff that are in between those, and so you're doing that and you're like, OK, I think that worked, but did that look any good?" he continued. "[They're] like, 'No, we better do another take.' So there were always, like, elements that made it harder…" Ultimately, though, he seems to agree with Kate: "We never got to have our nice romantic kiss, yeah," he said.

When the late Dr. Derek Shepard, aka Patrick Dempsey, popped up in a dream sequence in the second episode of the new season of "Grey's Anatomy," his appearance shocked and delighted fans who had to say goodbye to both his character and Derek's all-important relationship with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) back in 2015. According to Patrick, the positive response to his return made him feel all the proverbial feelings, as well. "No one knew until I showed up on set that day," the actor said on Wednesday's edition of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" (via Today). "And then we were really concerned that someone would take a picture and it would get out somehow, but we managed to keep it a secret, which was pretty phenomenal. The impact … the response has been incredibly overwhelming and very moving." Patrick explained that it was Ellen, his onscreen wife, who approached him with the idea of having Derek visit Meredith after she endures a grueling day treating COVID-19 patients. :I was like, what a great opportunity for people and how great it would be for the fans, really, to see everybody reunited in this sort of bizarre way," he recalled. It seems we haven't seen the end of "Beyond the Grave McDreamy," either. Last week, showrunner Krista Vernoff told the Los Angeles Times he'd be back on the show "three more times" this season. Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres, Patrick indicated the appearances will be spread out. "I know I'm throughout the season," he said. "He comes back to visit."
Prince Harry quietly volunteers alongside other vets as part of a neighborhood food distribution program
Prince Harry's request to help his family honor fallen service men and women from afar at a Remembrance Sunday event earlier this month was denied. But the newly minted Californian, who served 10 years in the British Army prior to relocating to the U.S., has been finding his own ways to support veterans in his new home state — without the spotlight that would have accompanied similar activities had Harry and his wife Megan Markle not stepped down from their royal duties. This week, news outlets noticed the Duke of Sussex appears in a post from last week shared by the Walker Family Events Foundation, which showed Harry, clad in jeans, sneakers and a face mask, pitching in beside other veterans to distribute food and supplies as part of a weekly program called Operation Nourish in the Compton region of Los Angeles. "Today I had the honor of meeting and working alongside Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex," the post's caption read. "He joined us in volunteering at Compton VFW for the Operation Nourish program packing and distributing food to our #Compton neighbors. He is very humble and kind." People has since reported Harry spent "a few hours … helping to put food parcels together and distribute them" to people in the neighborhood. According to the Mission Continues website, Operation Nourish "prioritizes veterans' mental health by mobilizing them in service of combating food insecurity."
Trevor Noah on why 2020's chaos has been 'liberating'
Sharing end-of-2020 GQ cover honors with the magazine's "Icon of the Year," George Clooney and "Rapper of the Year," Megan Thee Stallion, is Trevor Noah, who's celebrated as the outlet's "Newsman of the Year," for his tireless hosting work on "The Daily Show." He also deserves credit for shedding light on some of 2020's silver linings, as he does in his GQ interview. Describing the strange, pandemic and racial tension-centric past 11 months as "one of the most liberating years mentally and emotionally" for him, Trevor explains that the chaos and dark times forced him to get creative with the show. "It freed me from a lot of the paradigms and anchors that I had created for myself," he said. "The first part of the show was trying to just provide a moment of respite," Trevor continued. "The second thing I'm trying to do is keep myself and my audience informed of what is happening so that you don't have to live on social media, so that you don't have to do 24 hours of cable news, so that you don't have to watch people fighting the whole time." If that seems a bit more compassionate than the approach other TV newsers have taken, it may be because Trevor came into 2020 knowing plenty about depression, as he struggles with the illness himself. "Sometimes you wake up and you're like, 'I don't want to do this today.' That's one of the greatest blessings that 'The Daily Show' has given me," he muses. "One of the best things for depression is routine and goal-oriented tasks. Every day I have to make a show. Every day I have to finish the show. Every day I have to let go of the show."
Jamie Lee Curtis officiated a 'Halloween' superfan's wedding shortly before he lost his battle with cancer
A tearful Jamie Lee Curtis has revealed she recently served as the wedding officiant for a man who was "the greatest 'Halloween' fan in the world." As Jamie recounted on Tuesday's "The Talk," she met Anthony Woodle after the movie theater where he worked reached out to "Halloween" director David Gordon about screening the upcoming "Halloween Kills" early for Anthony, who was losing his battle with cancer. Downplaying her involvement, Jamie said David screened the film, which no one had seen, for Anthony and his fiancee, Emilee. "And I simply followed it up by calling Anthony and sort of starting a conversation to say I could tell him any secret [about the franchise]," she explained, according to People. As they chatted, Jamie said Anthony told her his wedding plans had fallen through because of the pandemic. Upon hearing the sad news, Jamie told Anthony she's already registered as an officiant and offered to handle the service if he wanted to say "I do" via Zoom. By that point, Anthony was very much near the end, but they were able to gather his and Emilee's family and friends for the call, where the couple tied the knot. Anthony passed away about an hour later, according to Jamie. "It turned out to be something obviously incredibly moving and also very life affirming," Jamie said, her eyes brimming with tears. "He was the greatest Halloween fan in the world, and I know a lot of them." Honoring Anthony last month on Instagram after his death, Jamie wrote: "Anthony Woodle, rest in the knowledge that you came from love, were surrounded by love and found true love in Emilee. …"
Jennifer Aniston has a new gig in the wellness world
There was a minor "Friends" fan backlash on Instagram on Monday, Nov. 16, when Lisa Kudrow's "Web Therapy" series featured its own version of a "Friends" reunion, sans Jennifer Aniston. Now, it looks like Jen may have had her hands full with a new gig. On Wednesday, the collagen brand Vital Proteins announced the actress is stepping in as the company's new Chief Creative Officer, which ET reports will entail "product innovation and brand strategy." For her part, Jen has yet to share anything too in-depth about her role. "I've always been an advocate for nourishing your wellness from within, which is why I started using Vital Proteins so many years ago," she said in a statement, adding that getting involved with the company "in a bigger way … is very exciting" to her.
