The eyes of the world were on England on May 19 as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. They are now officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Meghan wore a dress by British designer Clare Waight Keller, the first female artistic director at the French fashion house Givenchy. When Harry saw his bride, he whispered, "You look amazing." But there was drama leading up to the nuptials. Meghan's dad, Thomas Markle Sr., did not walk her down the aisle as planned because he was recovering from surgery to repair damage incurred by a heart attack brought on in part by the stress of a paparazzi photo scandal (he admitted he staged pics with photographers before the wedding). Instead, Harry's dad, Prince Charles, stepped in and joined Meghan halfway down the aisle to escort her to the altar. The guest list was a who's who of pop culture: George and Amal Clooney, David and Victoria Beckham, Priyanka Chopra, Tom Hardy, James Corden, Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams and Idris Elba were all there. It was the moment that everyone knew was inevitable, but that didn't take away from the excitement: Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan announced that they were expecting a baby! Amid online speculation that Meghan was pregnant, Kensington Palace shared the happy news on Oct. 15. The child is due in the spring of 2019. "Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public," the Palace tweeted. A royals source told People magazine that Meghan had already had her 12-week ultrasound and was "feeling well." The child will be seventh in line for the throne upon his or her birth.

On Feb. 15, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux announced that they had separated after two and a half years of marriage and nearly seven years as a couple. The announcement came after multiple tabloids claimed the duo's relationship was on the rocks. "Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly," read a statement released by longtime Jen publicist Stephen Huvane. "Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else's fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another." The split was "mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year," the statement explained. A source told E! that the duo simply weren't a good match. "Jennifer and Justin fell in love hard and fast and yet they were never really suited to one another. He was a New York hipster that loved the alternative lifestyle and Jennifer was living a much more reclusive life when they first started to fall in love," a source said. "The initial chemistry between them made it easy for them to ignore their differences and incompatibility."

The newest little royal made his grand entrance on April 23. Prince William and Duchess Kate welcomed a son, His Royal Highness Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge, at St. Mary's Hospital in London. Their third child weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces. William was at Kate's side for the birth of his son, who is fifth in line to the British throne.

"Glee" star Mark Salling was found dead at age 35 on Jan. 30 alongside a riverbed in Los Angeles's Sunland area. He committed suicide by hanging. Mark's family had reported him missing earlier that morning. "Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment," a family statement read. "He is survived by his mother and father, and his brother. The Salling family appreciates the support they have been receiving and asks for their privacy to be respected." The death came as he was due to be sentenced in a child pornography case.

How do you really sum up Khloe Kardashian's spring? It was a roller coaster. First, on April 10, videos surfaced showing her boyfriend and baby daddy, NBA star Tristan Thompson, allegedly cheating on her with several women. Two days later on April 12, Khloe gave birth to daughter True in Cleveland. Reports soon emerged claiming that Khloe had quickly forgiven Tristan. However, other reports surfaced indicating she wasn't letting him out of the doghouse and the romance was "hanging by a thread." But as the Cleveland Cavaliers were making their way through the NBA playoffs, Khloe went to a few of his games and supported him. He also jetted off with her to Los Angeles in mid-June, making it clear she was standing by her man despite his infidelity and her family's disapproval.

April 2 was the day that love officially died, for that was the day that Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan announced that they had separated after nine years of marriage. "We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now," they said in a joint statement. "There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it's time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible." A source told Page Six that they were spending a lot of time apart because of work, and that put too much strain on the marriage. The split appears to be very amicable: On Mother's Day, Channing even referenced his ex in a video on his Instagram Story. "Jenna, happy Mother's Day, baby," he said. In October, news broke revealing that Channing had starting seeing British pop star Jessie J and Jenna had started dating Tony Award-winning Broadway actor Steve Kazee.

Roseanne Barr's über-popular rebooted show, "Roseanne," was canceled on May 29 after she sent out a racially charged tweet about former President Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett that read, "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj." Roseanne apologized and said her joke was in "bad taste," but it was too late. After ABC announced it was pulling the plug on the new season, cast member and producer Sara Gilbert called her TV mom's comments "abhorrent." She tweeted, "This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we've created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love — one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member." Not long after the cancellation, reports surfaced revealing that a "Roseanne" spinoff that would center around Sara Gilbert's character, Darlene, was being discussed. Those rumors were true, and "The Conners" premiered, sans Roseanne, in October.

In early January, Hollywood was up in arms after learning that Michelle Williams earned a small fraction of what Mark Wahlberg was paid for their "All The Money In The World" reshoots in late 2017. On Jan. 9, reports indicated that the actress made $80 a day for the 10-day reshoot. Mark, meanwhile, got $1.5 million. Director Ridley Scott was furious upon finding out about the pay discrepancy. Mark eventually donated his salary to the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund, an organization that supports lower-income women fighting sexual misconduct in the workplace. On a personal note, the actress secretly married musician Phil Elverum, a widower with a toddler daughter, over the summer.

Mariah Carey has a mental health issue. Mimi was first diagnosed with bipolar II disorder in 2001, she told People magazine in April. "Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me. It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn't do that anymore. I sought and received treatment, I put positive people around me and I got back to doing what I love — writing songs and making music," she said in a story published on April 11. She is now in therapy and taking medication for bipolar II disorder, she told the mag. "I'm just in a really good place right now, where I'm comfortable discussing my struggles with bipolar II disorder. I'm hopeful we can get to a place where the stigma is lifted from people going through anything alone. It can be incredibly isolating. It does not have to define you and I refuse to allow it to define me or control me."

Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West became parents once again on Jan. 15 when their surrogate gave birth to a baby girl in Los Angeles. Kim announced the happy news on her subscription-based website. They named their daughter Chicago West. "We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care," Kim wrote. "North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister." TMZ reported that Kim was in the delivery room when the surrogate gave birth and was the first person to have skin-to-skin contact with the newborn.

Kylie Jenner welcomed daughter Stormi Webster with rapper boyfriend Travis Scott on Feb. 1. In announcing the birth in an Instagram post, Kylie — who never officially confirmed her pregnancy — told fans, "I'm sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions. I understand you're used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world. I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how. There was no gotcha moment, no big paid reveal I had planned. I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion so I chose to do it this way for my little life and our happiness. Pregnancy has been the most beautiful, empowering, and life-changing experience I've had in my entire life and I'm actually going to miss it. I appreciate my friends and especially my family for helping me make this special moment as private as we could. My beautiful and healthy baby girl arrived February 1st and I just couldn't wait to share this blessing. I've never felt love and happiness like this I could burst! Thank you for understanding."

"Smallville" actress Allison Mack was arrested in mid-April after authorities determined she was deeply involved in and was even an alleged leader in the self-help group NXIVM and a smaller organization within it that prosecutors allege was actually a sex cult. She's been formally charged with sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and forced labor conspiracy. She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. She's pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors claim Allison and NXIVM co-founder Keith Raniere — who's also been arrested — used coercive sex, restrictive diets and blackmail to keep members quiet and that they also branded them. Prosecutors allege that the women were essentially "slaves" while Allison and Keith were "masters." On April 24, she was released into her parents' custody and placed on house arrest after posting a $5 million bond.

Heather Locklear was arrested for domestic violence and assaulting a police officer on Feb. 25. TMZ reported that Heather's brother went to her home that evening and saw the actress and her boyfriend fighting. He called 911. Once police officers arrived and tried to take Heather in, she allegedly became combative and attacked a cop. In addition to the DV charge, she was also arrested on three counts of misdemeanor battery on an officer. After the arrest, Heather was taken to the hospital for evaluation. But she caught a break. On March 12, the district attorney charged the actress, 56, with four counts of misdemeanor battery on an officer along with with one count of resisting/obstructing an officer. She was not charged with assaulting her boyfriend, despite that being the original reason for her arrest. The year, however, got worse for Heather. On June 17, she was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation after allegedly attacking her parents and threatening to shoot herself. In August, new charges were added related to her alleged attack on the cop as well as an altercation with an EMT. She entered a long-term rehab facility in hopes of treating her problems. In November, Heather was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold after another episode, multiple outlets reported.

Anthony Bourdain — chef, food critic, writer, TV personality and so much more — killed himself at age 61. His close friend, acclaimed chef Eric Ripert, found him unresponsive in his hotel room in France on June 8. Authorities revealed that the beloved star, who leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter, hung himself in the bathroom with the belt of his robe. Hollywood was shocked. "Anthony. One of my idols. Unapologetic, passionate and one of the best storytellers on the planet," Chrissy Teigen tweeted. "Thank you for making food so exciting. And always standing up for everything right. Horrible. Why why why. Be at peace now." Mandy Moore called it "utterly heartbreaking." Rose McGowan who was particularly tight with Anthony and his heartbroken girlfriend, Asia Argento, broke down in a video. "Anthony I am so mad at you," she tweeted alongside the tearful video. "You were so loved, the world is not better without you." Josh Gad said, "This one really hurts."

Richard Gere, 68, secretly married girlfriend Alejandra Silva, 35, in the spring of 2018, according to multiple reports. A source told People magazine the couple then threw a wedding party in May, a few weeks after the nuptials. The celebration included several Tibetan monks. This is Richard's third marriage. He and Alejandra started dating in the summer of 2014. Oh, by the way, they're also expecting a baby. They shared the news publicly in September after Richard's pal the Dalai Lama blessed their unborn child.

Kanye West revealed that he became addicted to opioids after having liposuction a few years ago. "Two days before I was in the hospital I was on opioids," he said during a bizarre interview on "TMZ Live" on May 1, referencing his November 2016 mental breakdown during his Saint Pablo tour. "I was addicted to opioids. I had plastic surgery because I was trying to look good for y'all. I got liposuction because I didn't want y'all to call me fat like y'all called Rob [Kardashian] at the wedding and made him fly home before me and Kim got married." Kanye insisted he was in a good place mentally now despite admitting that he, not a doctor, was deciding how much medication he should consume. "These pills that they want me to take three of a day, I take one a week maybe, two a week. Ya'll had me scared of myself, of my vision, so I took some pills so I wouldn't go the hospital and prove everyone right. We are drugged out. We are following other people's opinions. We are controlled by the media and today it all changes." During the month of May, the rapper-designer — who released new albums in June — also repeatedly expressed his "love" for Donald Trump and controversially claimed that slavery was "a choice." Later in the year, he whipped up more controversy when he declared that the 13th Amendment, which did away with slavery, needed to be abolished (then he said he meant to say amended). He also met with Trump in the White House, where he delivered a bombastic monologue in which he, among other things, claimed he was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder and was actually just sleep-deprived. Kanye then headed to Africa to record more music inside giant white futuristic-looking domes at a luxe resort.

Devastating. Many of Hollywood's biggest names weren't able to go back to a home in November because their houses were lost in the Southern California fires. Gerard Butler, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, Neil Young, Kim Basinger, Robin Thicke and Camille Grammer are among those who lost their Malibu-area homes to the blazes. Liam shared a picture of the charred ruins of his house on Nov. 13, saying it's "been a heartbreaking few days." Miley added, "Completely devastated by the fires affecting my community. I am one of the lucky ones. My animals and LOVE OF MY LIFE made it out safely & that's all that matters right now. My house no longer stands but the memories shared with family & friends stand strong. I am grateful for." Gerard tweeted a photo of the remains of his place too. "Returned to my house in Malibu after evacuating," he wrote. "Heartbreaking time across California. Inspired as ever by the courage, spirit and sacrifice of firefighters. Thank you @LAFD."

On May 25, Harvey Weinstein surrendered to New York City police and was arraigned in court on charges of first- and third-degree rape and committing a criminal sexual act in the first degree. He walked into the courthouse in handcuffs. The legal proceeding came about seven months after many, many women came forward alleging sexual misconduct against the disgraced producer, whose bail was set at $10 million. He was released after posting $1 million cash and fitted with a monitoring device. In June, he pleaded not guilty. His attorney said, "Mr. Weinstein has always maintained that he has never engaged in non-consensual sexual behavior with anyone. Nothing about today's proceedings changes Mr. Weinstein's position. Mr. Weinstein maintains that he is not guilty of the charges filed today and is confident that he will be fully exonerated." In October, some of the charges were dropped amid allegations of witness and evidence tampering.

Kendra Wilkinson put an end to her marriage on April 6, confirming speculation that she and Hank Baskett were splitting. The former Playboy model filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences and listing their separation date as Jan. 1. The same day, she shared a photo of herself and Hank on Instagram, writing, "Today is the last day of my marriage to this beautiful man. I will forever love Hank and be open but for now we have chosen to go our own ways. I'm beyond sad and heartbroken because i did believe in forever, that's why i said yes but unfortunately too much fear has gotten in the way. We are both amazing parents and our kids will be happy n never know the difference other than seeing mama smile. Sometimes love looks funny. We are told to make sacrifices in life if it's true love well in this case it's me. I want to see happy Hank again… i miss that." In October, Kendra revealed she'd signed her last divorce document.

Kate Hudson and her boyfriend, Danny Fujikawa, welcomed a baby girl, Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa, in Los Angeles on Oct. 2. "We have decided to name our daughter Rani (pronounced Ronnie) after her grandfather, Ron Fujikawa. Ron was the most special man who we all miss dearly. To name her after him is an honor," Kate explained on Instagram. "Everyone is doing well and happy as can be. Our family thanks you for all the love and blessings that have been sent our way and we send ours right back." This is Kate's third child and the first she shares with musician Danny.

Pippa Middleton, Duchess Kate's little sister, gave birth to a son on Oct. 15. "He was born Monday 15th October at 1.58pm, weighing 8lb and 9oz," Pippa's rep told USA Today. "Everyone is delighted and mother and baby are doing well." Rumor of Pippa's pregnancy made the rounds in May, and she officially confirmed the "happy news" in Waitrose Weekend magazine in early June. It's the first child for Pippa and James Matthews, whom she married in 2017.

On April 26, onetime "America's dad" Bill Cosby was found guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand. The jury deliberated for 14 hours. The victim claimed that the disgraced 80-year-old comedian drugged and sexually assaulted her in his home in January 2004. Then, on Sept. 25, Judge Steven O'Neill branded the man formerly known as "America's Dad" a "sexually violent predator." He was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison and taken away in handcuffs before posing for a new mug shot.

Chrissy Teigen announced on May 16 that she and husband John Legend had welcomed a baby boy. A few days later, she shared his name: Miles Theodore Stephens. "We are drowning in his little peeps and nuzzles. Our household feels overwhelmed with love. Thank you for all your well wishes!" she said. The couple celebrated more amazing news in September: John won an Emmy for co-producing the TV musical "Jesus Christ Superstar," becoming the first African-American man to take home a competitive Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

Morgan Freeman apologized after he was accused of sexual harassment by eight women who claimed his alleged misconduct has been going on for years on the sets of his movies. CNN broke the story on May 24, saying it spoke to 16 people — eight alleged victims and eight alleged witnesses. After the report was made public, the legendary actor said, "Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent." Then, five days after his apology, he and his team demanded CNN retract its story and apologize, calling the story "the product of malicious intent, falsehoods, slight-of-hand, an absence of editorial control, and journalistic malpractice." CNN stood by its story.

After six years together — and less than a month before they were set to marry — Nikki Bella pulled the plug on her romance with John Cena. "While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another," they said on April 15. Multiple outlets reported that the couple continued to fight over having children — she wanted kids, he didn't. John essentially pined for Nikki publicly. While on the "Today" show, he said was ready to be a father, wanted to marry Nikki and still loved her. In early June multiple reports indicated that they were back together. But in July, Nikki announced that they'd ended things for good.

This was a mess. Tommy Lee wanted to press charges against the 22-year-old son he shares with Pamela Anderson after a skirmish sent the rocker to the hospital. Tommy said his son Brandon straight-up attacked him, whereas Brandon says he hit his dad in self-defense. Tommy posted an image of his busted lip to social media on March 6. "My heart is broken. You can give your kids everything they could ever want in their entire lives and they can still turn against you," he wrote. The whole dispute apparently started after Pamela Anderson spoke to Piers Morgan about her relationship with Tommy. According to TMZ, Tommy got upset and posted a tweet blasting Pam. Brandon took exception to that, which reportedly led to the altercation. Pam came out publicly and supported her son, saying that Tommy is a "disaster spinning out of control." She said Tommy is "sick" and "the definition of narcissist/sociopath." A few weeks later, Tommy claimed he wanted "peace" with his son. In April, it was formally announced that Brandon wouldn't face charges. Just as things seemed to calm down, Tommy took to social media to shame his kids for not calling him on Father's Day. He even called them "a–holes." Brandon slammed his dad and essentially called him a deadbeat dad. He then shared an image of Tommy seemingly unconscious wearing a T-shirt and underwear and lying on the floor, seemingly taken after the March altercation. He captioned it, "Look a little sleepy there Tommy." On June 18, Tommy claimed that he paid $130,000 for his son to go to rehab. Until then, no one knew that Brandon had substance abuse issues. After the public outing, Brandon acknowledged that his dad paid for his rehab, then offered to pay to send his father to rehab. In October, it was revealed that Brandon was joining the cast of MTV's "The Hills" reboot.

"The Bachelor" star Arie Luyendyk Jr. was known as public enemy No. 1 earlier this year. On the show's finale that aired on March 5, Arie popped the question to Becca Kufrin, choosing her over runner-up Lauren Burnham. However, just weeks after proposing, he dumped Becca so he could try to get back together with Lauren — and let the whole thing be filmed for the ABC show. Fast-forward to the "After The Final Rose" special on March 6. Arie came face-to-face with Becca and told her he wanted the split filmed so people wouldn't have any questions. A few minutes after that, he proposed to Lauren live on-stage. "I have made some bad decisions, but the best decision was running back to you. I can't imagine a life without you," he said. "And I want to do this in front of everyone because I want to show you that I should have done this a long time ago." She said yes, and they later announced they'll marry in January 2019. Silver lining for Becca? She was named as the next star of "The Bachelorette" — and a few months later got engaged to her own season's winner, Garrett Yrigoyen.

The man who allegedly attempted to blackmail Kevin Hart over a sex video was criminally charged with extortion. That man's name is Jonathan Todd Jackson, and he is one of Kevin's friends. A really close friend too. "Mind blown … Hurt … at a loss for words and simply in complete disbelief at the moment. WOW," Kevin tweeted on May 2 after learning the identity of his alleged extortionist, who was charged with attempted extortion and extortion by threatening letter, both felonies. In September 2017, Kevin was caught in the middle of a sex scandal after he allegedly cheated on his then-pregnant wife while in Las Vegas. A video purporting to show Kevin having sex was secretly recorded earlier in the summer. Prosecutors claim Jonathan tried to get money out of Kevin in return for keeping the video secret. TMZ reported that Kevin and Jonathan, who goes by JT, have been close for 15 years. JT, an actor, was in "S.W.A.T." and Kevin's film "Think Like a Man Too."

Bachelor no more! Hugh Grant, who had long been one of Hollywood's most eligible single guys, is married. The actor and his girlfriend, Swedish TV producer Anna Eberstein — the mother of three of his five children — tied the knot at a London registry office on May 25.

Legendary fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead in her Manhattan apartment on June 5. She committed suicide, hanging herself with a scarf. The 55-year-old designer and sister-in-law of comedian David Spade left behind a husband, from whom she was reportedly separated, and a daughter. News of the sudden death rocked Hollywood, as many of the its biggest stars were fans of Kate's work. "I am heartbroken about the news of Kate Spade. I have worn her clothes many, many times," Mindy Kaling tweeted. "They were colorful, bold, cheerful, and encouraged women to find the twinkly person inside them. You couldn't walk into her boutiques and not smile. Rest In Peace, Kate." Reese Witherspoon said, "My heart and prayers go out to Kate Spade and her family. What a wonderful, talented woman who will be dearly missed." Of course, perhaps the most heart wrenching tribute came from David, her brother-in-law. Several hours after the death was reported, the comedian shared an unfocused picture of himself with Kate. "Fuzzy picture but i love it. Kate and I during Christmas family photos," he said. "We had so much fun that day. She was so sharp and quick on her feet. She could make me laugh so hard. I still cant believe it. Its a rough world out there people, try to hang on."

After just a couple of weeks of dating, Ariana Grande and "Saturday Night Live" star Pete Davidson got engaged in early June. A few weeks after that, they moved into a $16 million apartment in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood. Pete spent $93,000 on a custom-made ring for the pop star. Pete later said he told Ariana he would marry her on their first date. Things seemed to be going well for Ariana and Pete, but in October they duo abruptly split and called off their engagement.

David Foster, 68, and Katharine McPhee, 34, don't care about numbers. The age-defying couple got engaged over the summer. Kat took to Instagram on July 3 to confirm reports that the music producer had proposed, revealing that David popped the question on top of mountain in Italy. She was seen rocking her engagement ring while touring the Italian island of Capri, and she also showed off her ring to family and friends on FaceTime. This will be the singer-actress's second marriage. It will be David's fifth. In September, she opened up about their romance, telling People magazine, "We genuinely love and respect each other and have for a very long time." She added, "There are just a lot of things when you look at the history of our relationship, neither of us could have written it. I would never have imagined that this would be our future together… It doesn't make sense to a lot of people, but it does to us."

There's about to be a new billionaire in Hollywood… and she can't even legally drink alcohol. Kylie Jenner, 20, is poised to become the youngest self-made billionaire, according to Forbes. In July, the mag said Kylie had amassed a net worth of $900 million since launching her Kylie Cosmetics brand less than three years ago — and Forbes admitted that $900 million was a "conservative" estimate, so the number is likely higher. Forbes noted that within the next year, she'll best the likes of Mark Zuckerberg and Evan Spiegel as the youngest self-made billionaire ever. For those curious, Kylie's sister Kim Kardashian West is worth about $350 million, according to Forbes.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin got engaged in the Bahamas on July 7 barely a month after rekindling their previously on-off and reportedly casual romance. Two days after the engagement, Justin confirmed the news on Instagram. They didn't wait long to actually get hitched either: They married on Sept. 13 at a New York City courthouse. TMZ reported that the couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement. Justin is estimated to be worth $250 million, while Hailey is reportedly worth just a few million dollars. They still plan to have a formal religious ceremony.

A secret wedding and a baby! Weeks before Cardi B and Offset welcomed daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus on July 10 — the first child for the "Bodak Yellow" rapper and fourth for the Migos rapper — Cardi confirmed a report revealing that the couple had secretly married in September 2017. Cardi also broke a ton of music records, including one making her the first woman in hip hop to have three No. 1 songs on the Billboard charts. But it wasn't all happiness for the couple this year. On July 20, Offset was arrested in Atlanta after a traffic stop and charged with illegally possessing two handguns in addition to possessing pot and making an improper lane change. Then in September, Cardi got into a shoe-throwing altercation with nemesis Nicki Minaj. Nicki said the whole thing was "mortifying," while Cardi had "zero regrets" about it. Then in October, Cardi was arrested for assault and reckless endangerment in New York City for her allegedly role in an August strip club attack on two female bartenders.

Just two months after they were first linked, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas got engaged. People magazine broke the news on July 27. An insider told People that after closing down a Tiffany store to buy a ring, the music star, 25, popped the question on the "Quantico" star's 36th birthday, July 18, while they were in London. Nick later told Jimmy Fallon on his late-night show, "We met through a friend so we got connected first over text and we started talking for a while and it was about six months before we met up in person," he said. "Now cut to we're engaged, the story wrote itself." The pair are expected to wed in India in early December.

Days after multiple reports indicated that Aretha Franklin was "gravely ill," the Queen of Soul died on Aug. 16 from pancreatic cancer. She was 76. As expected, tributes poured in to honor the legend. Former President Barack Obama, who shared a special bond with Aretha, wrote, "Aretha helped define the American experience. In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade — our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect. May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace." President Donald Trump called her "a great woman, with a wonderful gift from God, her voice." Diana Ross tweeted, "I'm sitting in prayer for the wonderful golden spirit Aretha Franklin." John Legend called her "the greatest vocalist I've ever known." On Aug. 31, a slew of celebrities and dignitaries attended Aretha's funeral in Detroit. She reportedly had no will, so her four children will split her estate evenly.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's divorce got messy in 2018. Really messy. On Aug. 7, Angelina's new lawyer claimed that Brad was basically a deadbeat dad and had not paid any "meaningful child support" for their six kids since their 2016 split. She wanted "retroactive child support" from her ex, court documents said. Brad's lawyer called the filing "unnecessary" and "a thinly veiled effort to manipulate media coverage." Further, he blasted claims that Brad hasn't paid her child support. Brad "previously loaned [Jolie] $8 million to assist her in purchasing her current residence and has paid $1.3 million in bills for the benefit of [Jolie] and the minor children," his lawyer said in court docs. The financial support debacle followed drama earlier in the summer that saw a judge warn Angelina — who wants sole custody while Brad wants joint custody — that she could lose custody if she continued to drive a wedge between the kids and their father. Brad was temporarily given every-other-day visitation with their brood not long after, and in October, newly filed court documents revealed that a final custody evaluation had, at last, been put into motion.

Oh baby! Carrie Underwood is pregnant, y'all! The country superstar announced on Aug. 8 that she and husband Mike Fisher were expecting a big brother or sister for son Isaiah, 3. Carrie revealed the pregnancy news while dishing news about her album and tour. "You might be wondering or asking, 'Carrie, why is your tour starting in May?' Well … yay!" she said, revealing balloons spelling out "BABY" above her head. "Mike and Isaiah and I are absolutely over the moon and excited to be adding another little fish to our pond. This has just been a dream come true with album and with baby news and all that stuff. We're just so excited and just so glad you guys can share in this with us and be a part of this with us. Love you guys! We will see you on the road in 2019." The news was extra special because in September, Carrie revealed that she'd suffered three miscarriages in the last two years and had questioned whether she'd be able to have another child. By the way, it's a boy.

So long, Bandit! On Sept. 6, Burt Reynolds passed away at 82 after suffering a heart attack at his Florida home. Hollywood mourned the loss of the legend. "There are times in your life that are so indelible, they never fade away. They stay alive, even forty years later. My years with Burt never leave my mind. He will be in my history and my heart, for as long as I live. Rest, Buddy," his "Smokey and the Bandit" co-star Sally Field tweeted. Arnold Schwarzenegger tweeted, "Burt Reynolds was one of my heroes. He was a trailblazer. He showed the way to transition from being an athlete to being the highest paid actor, and he always inspired me. He also had a great sense of humor."

Demi Lovato was hospitalized on July 24 after suffering an overdose. Initial reports claiming it was heroin were shot down and TMZ later reported that the pop star almost died after freebasing oxycodone laced with fentanyl. According to emergency dispatch audio, Demi was unconscious when paramedics arrived at her Hollywood Hills home, which she's now selling. After nearly two weeks at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the pop star went directly to a long-term rehab program. On Aug. 5, Demi broke her silence about the overdose. "I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction," she wrote in an Instagram message on Aug. 5. "What I've learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet. I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well. To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time. I want to thank my family, my team, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai who have been by my side this entire time. Without them I wouldn't be here writing this letter to all of you." She then vowed, "I will keep fighting."

Rapper Mac Miller was found dead at age 26 on Sept. 7 in his home in a Los Angeles suburb. Initial reports pointed to an overdose, which the coroner confirmed in November: Mac died from an accidental OD involving fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol. Despite his struggles with sobriety, the music world was shocked. His ex, Ariana Grande, posted a photo of Mac to her Instagram after the news hit. A week later, on Sept. 14, she broke her silence while sharing a fun video of Mac telling a story, a video taken while they were dating. "I adored you from the day I met you when I was nineteen and i always will. I can't believe you aren't here anymore," she said. "I really can't wrap my head around it. We talked about this. So many times. I'm so mad, I'm so sad I don't know what to do. You were my dearest friend. For so long. Above anything else. I'm so sorry I couldn't fix or take your pain away. I really wanted to. The kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. I hope you're okay now. Rest."

After nearly two years of on-and-off dating, Kourtney Kardashian, 39, and young lover Younes Bendjima, 25, split over the summer. "It didn't end well," a source told People magazine on Aug. 7. TMZ broke the news, reporting that the "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star was the one who ended things. The website also published pictures of Younes getting incredibly cozy with another woman in Mexico. Younes denied that there was anything romantic going on with the woman. "They really want me to be the bad guy… can't have fun with your friends no more," he wrote on his Instagram Story. On Aug. 8, TMZ claimed Kourtney broke up with the boxer-turned-model in July amid fears he'd cheated. In late September, the reality TV star was linked to an even younger model, 20-year-old Luka Sabbat.

Jessica Simpson is pregnant with her third child! The fashion brand mogul announced the news on Instagram on Sept. 18 when she shared photos of her two kids with husband Eric Johnson releasing tiny pink balloons from inside a couple big black balloons, indicating that it's a girl. "This little baby girl will make us a family of five," she wrote. "We couldn't be happier to announce this precious blessing of life."

Luann de Lesseps might want to forget 2018. First off, she started the year in rehab after drunkenly attacking a cop on Christmas Eve 2017. It wouldn't be her only rehab stint this year. It also wouldn't be her only low of the year. In July, the "The Real Housewives of New York City" star was sued by her ex and her own children after they claimed she screwed the kids out of a multimillion-dollar house and trust deal following her divorce from the count. Then, on July 16, co-star Bethenny Frankel confirmed that Luann was back in rehab for a second time. Page Six reported that friends had unsuccessfully tried to stage an intervention with her and failed, though she finally changed her mind following what TMZ described as a spiral of "boozy partying." There was a sliver of good news: In August, Luann — who launched a successful cabaret show in 2018 — struck a plea deal in her drunken assault case from 2017 and pleaded guilty to three charges, dodging the felony charge, which essentially kept her out of jail.

Robin Wright secretly married her younger beau, Saint Laurent VIP relations manager Clement Giraudet, on Aug. 11. The wedding went down at La Roche-sur-le-Buis in southern France and Robin wore a "bohemian lace wedding dress," Vogue Paris reported. On Aug. 12, Robin's daughter, Dylan Penn, shared a video of guests dancing at a wedding party, many of whom donned bohemian-style clothing.

Lance Bass thought he was the new proud owner of the "Brady Bunch" house, but then suddenly his real estate deal went bye, bye, bye. The former *NSYNC singer claimed that he was told his $3 million offer was the winning bid for the iconic house in August. He even tweeted out that he got the home. However, the next day, Lance revealed that his realtor called to say there was an "unforeseen circumstance" and another buyer had come in and made a higher offer after the deadline. Lance was initially peeved, but after finding out that HGTV was the winner, he was less angry. "HGTV??! Aw man. I'd be pretty upset if it were anyone else, but how can you be mad at HGTV??" he tweeted on Aug. 7. "My television is stuck on that channel. Kudos HGTV, I know you will do the right thing with the house. That was always my biggest worry. I can smile again." After the fiasco, reports revealed that HGTV was meeting with Lance regarding his potential involvement in a related renovation show.

This year, #MeToo movement advocate Asia Argento, one of the first Harvey Weinstein rape accusers, was accused of having sex with one of her former co-stars when he was 17 years old, which is sexual assault in the eyes of the law. According to legal documents obtained by The New York Times in August, Jimmy Bennett met his former co-star at a Los Angeles-area hotel in May 2013 where she allegedly gave him alcohol before they had intercourse. Jimmy, now 22, waited to approached Asia with his assault allegations until late 2017 or early 2018. According to Asia, her boyfriend, Anthony Bourdain, encouraged her to settle with Jimmy — whom she's accused of being troubled and forcing himself on her — so that he'd leave them alone. Asia said Anthony, who died after supporting her in the deal, paid the initial portion of a $380,000 settlement.

"The Cosby Show" actor Geoffrey Owens was trending for several days in early September after a photograph emerged of him working at a New Jersey Trader Joe's. Initially, Geoffrey was job shamed, but he was soon showered with support. On Sept. 4, Geoffrey appeared on "Good Morning America" wearing his Trader Joe's name badge. While speaking to Robin Roberts, he said he was "devastated" when the photo first emerged but felt better after seeing the outpouring of support. "There is no job that's better than another. It may pay better, it may have better benefits, it may look better on paper. But it's not better. Every job is worthwhile," he said. "No one should feel sorry for me either from a positive or negative perspective because I've had a great life and a great career. I'm doing fine." He got acting job offers after the photos emerged. "#GeoffreyOwens I'm about to start shooting OWN's number one drama next week! Come join us!!!" Tyler Perry tweeted. "I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist." (He agreed to take part in Tyler's project.) In the midst of the story, other actors came out to detail the "regular jobs" they've done to make ends meet too.

In May, Geena Davis' husband Reza Jarrahy filed for divorce after 17 years of marriage. But then it emerged that perhaps they were never married in the first place. On Sept. 5, Geena asked a judge to dismiss his petition, claiming the two were never actually legally wed. In her court filing, the actress said their marriage license was never properly filed in New York back in 2001, so under the state's law, they are not husband and wife. In fact, she said they both knew that their marriage was not legally binding and they it during their wedding ceremony. If that's true, it would mean that the duo doesn't have to split property and Geena doesn't have to pay the craniofacial surgeon any spousal support. She even revealed that they both filed tax returns either as "single" or "head of household." Reza, however, has insisted the marriage was valid.

Denise Richards got married one day after it was reported that she'd just gotten engaged to boyfriend Aaron Phypers, whose divorce from actress Nicollette Sheridan had been finalized just a few weeks earlier. The wedding was planned in less than 48 hours. "[Aaron] really wanted to marry on Sept. 8 because eight means infinity. We called [wedding planner] Mindy Weiss and she did it less than 48 hours and it was beautiful," Denise told People magazine. The whirlwind wedding took place in Malibu. The wedding will be featured on the next season of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," on which Denise will star.

Hilary Swank quietly married boyfriend Philip Schneider at the Saint Lucia Preserve in Carmel, California, in August. She wore a one-of-a-kind dress by Elie Saab Haute Couture Atelier made of chantilly lace, silk chiffon and organza silk. It took about 19 feet of tulle to create the veil, E! noted, adding that the embroidery on her dress took 70 hours to complete. The dress itself took 150 hours to piece together.

On Oct. 4, Ben Affleck completed a 40-day rehab stint for alcohol addiction. He remains in outpatient care (he entered rehab after a successful intervention staged by his ex, Jennifer Garner). "The support I have received from my family, colleagues and fans means more to me than I can say. It's given me the strength and support to speak about my illness with others," Ben wrote in a statement on Instagram after his release. "Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family." Interestingly, the next day it was reported that Ben and Jen had finally finalized their divorce. Ben also saw a change in his love life in 2018. In August, it emerged that he and his girlfriend of over a year, "Saturday Night Live" producer Lindsay Shookus, had split up after Ben, 46, was spotted on several dates with 22-year-old Playboy model Shauna Sexton, whom he continued to see while in rehab. They reportedly parted ways in October.

"The Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Joe Giudice will be deported back to his native Italy after his prison sentence is up next year. On Oct. 10, a judge ruled that Joe — who was brought to America as a baby — can no longer stay in the States because of his financial fraud crimes. He's currently serving a 41-month federal prison sentence. Wife Teresa Giudice was not in court when a judge handed down the decision but has made it clear she's heartbroken. Joe has until Nov. 10 to appeal. Multiple reports indicated that Joe begged the judge to let him stay in America for the sake of his four daughters, but it didn't help. Teresa reportedly has no plans to uproot her life and move to Italy, though she's denied they have or will split. Joe filed a deportation appeal in November.

On Oct. 10, reports surfaced indicating that Selena Gomez was receiving mental health treatment after suffering from an "emotional breakdown." TMZ said Selena was hospitalized twice in a two-week span. The first hospitalization came in late September after she had an "alarmingly low white blood cell count" in the wake of her kidney transplant, TMZ said. She was released after a few days. Then, during the first week of October, she was again hospitalized after another low blood cell count. During that hospital stay, TMZ said she had "a meltdown" and "freaked out" and "tried ripping the IV's out of her arm." Several sources likened it to "an emotional breakdown." Afterward, the singer spent time in a psychiatric facility where she received dialectical behavior therapy, the report said. A source told People magazine that Selena has had a "tough" few weeks, perhaps aided by the confirmation that her off/on boyfriend Justin Bieber had married Hailey Baldwin.

Selma Blair announced on Instagram on Oct. 20 that she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. "I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things," she said. " My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps. But we are doing it. And I laugh and I don't know exactly what I will do precisely but I will do my best." Her diagnosis came on Aug. 16, she said. "I am in the thick of it but I hope to give some hope to others. And even to myself. You can't get help unless you ask. It can be overwhelming in the beginning. You want to sleep. You always want to sleep. So I don't have answers. You see, I want to sleep," she said. "But I am a forthcoming person and I want my life to be full somehow. I want to play with my son again. I want to walk down the street and ride my horse. I have MS and I am ok." She estimated that she has had MS for 15 years. After her reveal, there was an outpouring of support from the entertainment industry. Selma's "Cruel Intentions" costar Sarah Michelle Gellar, wrote, "I love you, I'm proud of you, and there is nothing I wouldn't do for you." Neil Patrick Harris said, "Such a brave and honest thing to write. Sending thoughts and loving support." Shannen Doherty offered, "So proud of you and sending you some warrior strength and fierce love."

"Jersey Shore" star Mike Sorrentino was sentenced in October to eight months in prison for tax fraud. He'll begin his sentence in early 2019. In January 2018, the man known as The Situation agreed to a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to tax evasion. Mike, 36, and his brother Marc were charged with conspiracy to commit fraud in 2014 after the government claimed they did not pay all of the federal income tax owed on The Situation's $8.9 million income from 2010 to 2012. It wasn't all bad news for Mike, though, as he married Lauren Pesce on Nov. 1.
