The wildest celeb money moments of 2018

Celebrities are not like us. And this is never more evident than in their spending habits and earning hauls. As 2018 comes to a close, Wonderwall.com is taking a look at some of the craziest money moments celebrities experienced this year — from the highest highs (those "The Big Bang Theory" paychecks) to the lowest lows (bankruptcy!). To kick off the list, let's take a look at Kylie Jenner's fantastic 2018. In February, she welcomed her first child, daughter Stormi Webster, with rapper Travis Scott. In July, she was honored with a Forbes magazine cover detailing how she's built a $900 million beauty empire, Kylie Cosmetics, in less than three years — and how she's on track to be the youngest-ever self-made billionaire. To treat herself and provide for her little family, Kylie and Travis purchased a $13.45 million mansion in Beverly Hills. Pete Davidson drops nearly $100K on engagement ring

In June, Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande began their short-lived engagement with a 3-carat diamond engagement ring that set the "Saturday Night Live" star back $93,000. The ring, set in platinum, was specially designed for the pop star by jeweler Greg Yuna aka Mr. Flawless. Despite the hefty price tag, the engagement didn't last, with the duo calling it off in October — a month after Ariana's ex-boyfriend Mac Miller tragically died of a drug overdose.

Brad Pitt loaned $8 million to Angelina Jolie

In August, Angelina Jolie's lawyer accused Brad Pitt of failing to pay any "meaningful child support" for their six kids since their 2016 split. Brad's lawyer hit back, denying his ex's claims. Brad "previously loaned [Angelina] $8 million to assist her in purchasing her current residence and has paid $1.3 million in bills for the benefit of [Angelina] and the minor children," his lawyer said in court docs.

Sofia Vergara named highest paid TV actress

Sofia Vergara took top honors when the list of TV actresses making the most bacon was released. According to Forbes, the Colombian-American actress took home $42.5 million between June 2017 and June 2018 for all of her work, including her endorsements and job on "Modern Family." She was followed by "The Big Bang Theory" star Kaley Cuoco at $24.5 million, Ellen Pompeo of "Grey's Anatomy" at $23.5 million, "Law and Order: SVU" star Mariska Hargitay with $13 million and fellow "Modern Family" actress Julie Bowen at $12.5 million

Jim Parsons named highest paid TV actor

For the fourth year in a row, Forbes named "The Big Bang Theory" star Jim Parsons the highest paid actor on television with earnings of $26.5 million, before taxes, between June 2017 and June 2018. The CBS sitcom is where the money is at. Co-star Johnny Galecki nabbed the No. 2 spot with $25 million from the show, endorsements and producing "Young Sheldon." Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg, who also star on "TBBT," tied for third at $23.5 million each. And No. 5 on the list was "NCIS" star Mark Harmon. CBS stars are getting paid!

Drake donates almost $1 million

With a nearly $1 million budget from his label for his "God's Plan" music video, Drake decided to do something different. The rapper's video showcased him giving the money to various Miami-based individuals, charities and causes — a far cry from what happens in most rap videos. The video, released in February, started with the words, "The budget for this video was $996,631.90 … We gave it all away … Don't tell the label …" Drake can then be seen picking up the tab for everyone in a grocery store, giving money and gift cards to a women's shelter, awarding a young woman a $50,000 scholarship to the University of Miami, giving wads of cash to lucky people and more.

Megyn Kelly demands $50 million from NBC

After Megyn Kelly was let go from NBC in October for her controversial blackface comments during her hour of "Today," the anchor demanded that the network pay out the remainder of her three-year contract, which was believed to be upwards of $50 million. As of late November, her attorney was still negotiating an exit package with NBC brass.

Justin Bieber spends $500,000 on engagement ring

Justin Bieber's whirlwind engagement to Hailey Baldwin began with a ring estimated to have cost the pop star nearly $500,000. In July, the singer proposed to the model in the Bahamas with a massive diamond sparkler featuring between 6 and 10 carats. The two then quietly married in September at a New York City courthouse. Shockingly, the Biebs reportedly did not protect his fortune, valued at $250 million: The two married without a prenup.

Emma Watson donates money to fight sexual harassment

In February, it was reported that British actress Emma Watson donated £1 million (or nearly $1.4 million) to the new U.K. Justice and Equality Fund. The charity's mission is to support victims of sexual harassment and abuse as they seek justice, similar to the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund in America that was started in the wake of the #MeToo Movement in late 2017.

Britney Spears making $500,000 per Vegas show

In October, Britney Spears inked a deal to return for another Las Vegas residency, this time at the Park MGM. The princess of pop will rake in a reported $500,000 per show, plus a portion of merchandise sales. Her original residency at Planet Hollywood earned her $310,000 a show, which was then raised to $475,000 a night in 2014, which was just below Celine Dion's rate.

Lance Bass bids $3 million to get the "Brady Bunch" house

This is the story of a man who wanted the "Brady Bunch" house — and failed to get it. Lance Bass bid $3 million for the iconic television house and announced with a heavy heart in August that he lost out to a Hollywood studio that would outbid him no matter what. Fortunately, this story has a happy ending: The winner was HGTV, which is renovating and restoring the home (which was used for exterior shots) to look like the inside of the Brady family home (which was shot on a soundstage) for a new TV show — and they plan to somehow involve Lance, a "Brady Bunch" superfan, in the production.

Floyd Mayweather bought an $18 million watch

Floyd Mayweather Jr. made an epic splurge this year when he plunked down $18 million for Jacob & Co.'s "Billionaire Watch" in June. The sparkler is crafted from 18-karat white gold, 260 carats of emerald-cut diamonds and individual stones up to three carats. This is not the champion boxer's only major jewelry splurge of 2018. For daughter Iyanna's 18th birthday in May, he treated her to a 30-carat diamond ring with a massive 18-carat canary yellow diamond at the center. However, that ring was cheap compared to his watch, as it's said to be only in the high six figures.

Post Malone spent $40K on Postmates

Just call him Postmates Malone! In October, delivery app Postmates revealed that in the previous 400 days, Post Malone had spent more than $40,000 on the app on 3,000 items over 660 orders. Among the most notable? A Coachella order from his favorite, Popeyes, for 10,000 biscuits, which set him back $8,000. The rapper treats delivery people well: In April, he tipped a Postmates worker with his unreleased CD.

Kim Kardashian West makes $5 million in five minutes

In July, Kim Kardashian West accomplished a new financial feat. She released three new fragrances — Kimoji Cherry, Kimoji Peach and Kimoji Vibes — and combined, the three made her $5 million in five minutes. To compare, in 2017, her fragrance launch made $10 million… but it took an entire day.

David and Victoria Beckham sell mansion for $33 million

Goodbye L.A., hello hefty payday! In October, David and Victoria Beckham unloaded their family's old Los Angeles home for a cool $33 million. The home, purchased in 2007 for $22 million when the stars relocated from London, is a spacious 13,000 square feet complete with six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a pool and a library.

George Clooney named top-earning movie star

George Clooney might not have had any box-office wins the previous year, but he was still named the top-earning movie star between June 2017 and June 2018 by Forbes, mostly thanks to his tequila brand, Casamigos, which sold to the British liquor brand Diageo in the summer of 2017 for $700 million upfront and a potential additional $300 million over the next 10 years. George pocketed $233 million pre-tax from that alone. Then he earned another $6 million from endorsements and older movies, bringing the total to $239 million. George was followed by Dwayne Johnson ($124 million), Robert Downey Jr. ($81 million) and Chris Hemsworth ($64.5 million).

Scarlett Johansson named top-earning female movie star

Between June 2017 and June 2018, Scarlett Johansson took home $40.5 million, making her — according to Forbes — the top-earning actress of the year, thanks to her role as Black Widow in the "Avengers" franchise. Next in line was Angelina Jolie, who took home a reported $28 million, and Jennifer Aniston with $19.5 million. Jennifer Lawrence and Reese Witherspoon rounded out the top five.

Lil' Kim files for bankruptcy

2018 was not kind to Lil' Kim. In June, the petite rapper copped to being $4 million in debt between her New Jersey home loan, unpaid taxes and legal bills after filing for bankruptcy in May. TMZ reported that she offered to pay $5,500 a month to a creditor to help sort out her financial mess.

J-Rod buys $15 million New York apartment

In March ,super-successful couple Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez got themselves a New York City condo fit for music and baseball royalty. The two paid $15.3 million for 4,000 square feet on the 36th floor of a 96-story tower. Their abode features three bedrooms, a library and a private elevator. Naturally, the two needed an epic master suite, and theirs does not disappoint with its his-and-hers bathrooms, spacious closets and separate dressing area.

Cindy Crawford sells Malibu home for $45 million

It's certainly good to be Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. The power couple, who've been married for 20 years, unloaded their Malibu mansion for $45 million in June. The 5,300-square-foot beach house has four bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms, a swimming pool, a tennis court and a pathway to the beach.

Ellen DeGeneres gives $1 million to her audience

In February, to celebrate her 60th birthday, Ellen DeGeneres gave her audience a major gift. The comedian, who had been partnering with Cheerios and encouraging people to participate in the "One Million Acts of Good" campaign, invited participants to her 60th birthday celebration episode. "Hold onto your Cheerios because all of you are splitting one million dollars! That's a lot of money!" she announced to the shocked audience.

Adam Levine buys $35 million Beverly Hills estate

Adam Levine dropped $35 million this year on a new home for his growing family (he and model wife Behati Prinsloo welcomed their second daughter, Gio, in February). The Beverly Hills mansion has seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a screening room and a library spread over 12,000 square feet. Additionally, their new yard features a tennis court (practiced on by former owner Pete Sampras), guesthouse, pool, and, of course, a tropical garden.

Taylor Swift breaks her own record for highest grossing U.S. tour by a woman

In August, Taylor Swift smashed her own record: She again holds the record for the highest grossing U.S. tour by a woman thanks to her incredible "Reputation" stadium tour earnings. (She previously broke the record with her "1989" tour a few years ago.) At the time she broke the record in 2018, she'd grossed $191.1 million over 27 domestic dates. She averaged around $7 million per show, with total paid attendance in August already at a staggering 1,489,904 people — and she still had several weeks of tour left to go!

In November, Forbes named Katy Perry the highest earning woman in music with pre-tax earnings of $83 million between June 2017 and June 2018, all thanks to her "Witness" tour and "American Idol" earnings as well as her endorsement deals. Katy bested both Taylor Swift ($80 million) and Beyonce ($60 million), whose international tours hit their stride after the magazine's timeframe closed.

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen buy $9 million penthouse

To accommodate their growing family, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen upgraded their New York City home by purchasing a $9.02 million penthouse apartment in the city's Nolita neighborhood. Their new digs have three bedrooms and three bathrooms but aren't as new as you think — the apartment is in the same building where they previously owned a one-bedroom pad. It's worth coming back to, as their new place comes with access to a large private roof terrace with an outdoor kitchen — a treat for the cookbook author and model.

Beyonce buys New Orleans church for $850,000

The Church of Beyonce is now a real thing! Sort of. In May, the music superstar plunked down $850,000 for a 7,500-square-foot church in New Orleans. The stone structure is more than 100 years old and has been out of use for some time.

Amber Heard donates divorce settlement

In April, news broke that Amber Heard had donated between $1 million and $4.99 million to Children's Hospital Los Angeles — money she received in her divorce settlement from ex-husband Johnny Depp. She also made an equally large donation to the American Civil Liberties Union, which she agreed to do in 2016 during their divorce proceedings.

Oprah buys $8 million estate in Washington state

Oprah Winfrey expanded her real estate portfolio this year with an island retreat off the coast of Washington State. The 43-acre estate is in the San Juan Islands archipelago between Seattle and Vancouver. The media tycoon can relax in one of four bedrooms in her super-private compound, which also has a luxe guesthouse.

Kelly Clarkson spends $8.5 million on home in SoCal

In June, pop star Kelly Clarkson treated herself to a new home — a modern farmhouse in Encino, California. The house, which set the "The Voice" coach back $8.5 million, boasts just under 10,000 square feet, eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, according to the Los Angeles Times. The property also has a wine cellar, a home theater and pool.
