It's not every day that an award show spawns a red carpet filled with fashion nightmares. The 2019 Billboard Music Awards served up what might be a record number of misses (and a shocking shortfall of hits!). So without further ado, we'll start with one of the biggest offenders on the red carpet… Halsey. A lingerie-inspired '80s prom dress? That's the best (and only?) way to describe this mess. The strapless indigo blue number featured a sweetheart neckline and alternated between sheer black fabric and a pleather-like blue down the bodice and full skirt, which came complete with a nearly waist-high slit. Well, we have to give Halsey props. It couldn't have been easy to find a lip shade in the same exact obnoxious hue as her blue dress, but she did it! She completed her look with slicked hair and a smattering of eclectic earrings.

Taylor Swift's tacky new fashion era continues! In line with the aesthetic of new single "ME!," the superstar opted for a frilly pastel number by Raisa & Vanessa on the Billboard Music Awards red carpet. Though we were fans of that pretty lilac shade, between the high neck and the all-over ruffling, this frock felt a lot like her equally unfortunate iHeartRadio Music Awards look in March. One upgrade from Taylor Swift's iHeartRadio Music Awards look? These shoes aren't adorned with butterflies! Instead, Taylor opted for sparkly nude Casadei sandals with a gold heel.

Sophie Turner's head-to-toe Louis Vuitton getup was a polarizing pick for the Billboard Music Awards red carpet. The star's silver jumpsuit with floral embellishments featured long sleeves, a zippered detail down the bodice and a black belt and ended with cropped skinny pants for a futuristic yet funky look. Kiernan Shipka is a fashionista who's not afraid to take risks on the red carpet. Unfortunately, sometimes the gambles don't pay off — like this odd Dior design she wore to the Billboard Music Awards. The semi-sheer top half featured horizontal black stripes while the red skirt featured a black chevron stripe and had a similarly sheer effect. Kelly Clarkson has been killing it on the red carpet lately! She rocked a simple black sequined number on the Billboard Music Awards red carpet before starting her hosting duties,. The In The Mood For Love design featured a high neck, long sleeves and a slit, but it was her shoe choice that really wowed us! Get a better view of those rainbow stunners next!
Obsessed! Check out these phenomenal Christian Louboutin sandals that Kelly Clarkson paired with her black gown. We loved the fun rainbow colored straps and the way they brought the perfect pop of color to her gorgeous look.
We get it, Julianne Hough. It's almost summer. But that's no excuse to walk a red carpet in this disastrous outfit. The star wore this silver Genny ensemble comprised of short shorts, a bra and a matching jacket over top with a pair of silver Christian Louboutin heels. And though we admit the jacket is killer, it was still a miss.
Cobie Smulders rocked a pretty silver minidress by Cong Tri that featured a daringly low neckline. The sequined confection paired perfectly with those sky-high heels and her updo. A bright red lip finished off this look flawlessly.
A glam shirtdress? We're not quite sure how to describe the Ralph lauren frock Olivia Wilde wore to the Billboard Music Awards. The collared, long-sleeved dress was business up top and party down below. She paired it with gold Giuseppe Zanotti shoes for a lackluster look that we're calling a miss.
Looking fab, Paula! Paula Abdul wowed on the Billboard Music Awards red carpet in this sweet long-sleeved white minidress by Hamel. We loved the silver fringe detailing and the way she paired it with metallic heels.
One silhouette we weren't fans of at the Billboard Music Awards? Eva Longoria's funky Alberta Ferretti minidress, which featured a high-low hemline, a belt and a fanned-out detail along the bodice. Though the dress wasn't all bad, that hemline made us nervous that she was on the verge of a wardrobe malfunction all night! And the decision to complete the look with those peep-toe Gianvito Rossi heels was definitely a misguided one. Get a better look at them next…
Yikes. From far away you couldn't tell that Eva Longoria's peep-toe Gianvito Rossi slingbacks were actually sheer. That odd choice coupled with her flashy dress made for a big-time miss in our book.
Another questionable fashion choice at the Billboard Music Awards? Ciara's dramatic Stephane Rolland gown. From the plunging neckline and long sleeves to the massive ruffle detail on the shoulder and the high slit, this extra-glam gown seemed out of place amongst a sea of minidresses. Next up, the one detail we couldn't quite figure out…
It is part of the dress? Is it a thick bedazzled choker? Ciara's massive accessory had us perplexed. But her hair and makeup were certainly on-point — we loved her smokey eye and glossy lip and the way she completed her look with a sleek, super-high ponytail.
Holding it down for the men? Khalid, who donned this navy blue suit with an unexpected choice underneath — a floral-printed turtleneck! We loved this addition, and the way he infused a little more style via his boots.
Cardi B's mustard yellow Moschino two-piece look gave us Princess Jasmine vibes. But dressing like one of our favorite Disney princesses didn't make this look an automatic hit. Though the bedazzled crop top was pretty, that skirt with its overdone slit lost us.
Diplo must be having serious Stagecoach Festival withdrawal! The DJ-producer sported this purple Western-themed getup and we have to say, we don't hate the cowboy vibe on him!
Ella Mai kept things impossibly cool in a black turtleneck, bike shorts and leather jacket combo. She finished things off with a pretty red lip and equally cool heeled boots, delivering an edgy and excellent ensemble.
Sizzling in silver! Becky G picked this thin-strapped frock by Yousef Aljasmi for the Billboard Music Awards. It featured a slit and an asymmetrical hemline that ended in a diminutive train. Though she looked covered up from the front, seeing this dress from the side was an entirely different story!
We told you! Becky G's silver frock showed plenty of skin from the side. We liked this sparkly, surprising look on the young star — and how she kept things fresh by pairing the metallic frock with stark white spring-ready (and affordable!) Sam Edelman heels.
We're not quite sure what Jennifer Hudson was thinking with her Billboard Music Awards outfit. The singer-actress wore this bizarre brown short-sleeved pantsuit by Area that inexplicably featured silver chain embellishments. The ones on her jacket nearly hung down to her knees, while the ones on her matching pants stopped at her ankles. She added a white blouse underneath and silver Stuart Weitzman shoes, but nothing could salvage this look.
Sorry, Taylor Swift, but we think Sofia Carson had the right idea when it came to lilac ruffles. We much preferred the star's one-shouldered Giambattista Valli confection, which featured delicate ruffled layers in the pretty shade all the way down to the floor. Next up, a look at her eye-catching earrings and makeup!
Sofia Carson added the perfect touches to her pale purple Giambattista Valli gown. She slicked her long hair back, opted for warm-toned makeup and dramatic lashes, and finished things off with some fabulous earrings. The H. Stern jewels complemented her look perfectly.
We know neon is all the rage, but even the killer lime green hue of this frock doesn't excuse the mess of tulle. Caresha "Yung Miami" Brownlee rocked this risky one-shouldered design, which was really just layers upon layers of neon tulle in an asymmetrical design. Making matters worse? Those neon yellow heels.
Julia Michaels kept it simple, and on this particular red carpet, we were grateful for her straightforward black strapless Paolo Sebastian dress with no frills and a thigh-high slit that helped show off her cute black-and-white heels.
Thank you for teaching us that polka dots and sheer don't mix, Sofia Reyes! Up close, the circles actually looked more like snowflakes. Coupled with the tulle trim along the bodice and at the base of the floor-length skirt, this look was the definition of overkill.
Songstress Tori Kelly really experimented with color on the Billboard Music Awards red carpet. The star donned this tangerine-hued suit and instead of opting for white or black picked emerald green to complement the bold shade. We have to say this risk definitely paid off!
A snakeskin suit with a sequined lapel? Yep, Zedd really wore that! We actually liked the DJ-producer's quirky look, which he finished off with a more subdued black dress shirt and black boots.
Kane Brown is quickly becoming one of our favorite men to watch on the red carpet, and he didn't disappoint at the Billboard Music Awards! The star rocked a black dress shirt and pants but kept the look from being boring with a subtly camouflage-printed jacket and bright white sneakers.
What do we hate more than an overdone sheer dress? A sheer jumpsuit! Chantel Jeffries' Billboard Music Awards look was anything but innovative, though we're sure it was meant to be daring. The tacky sleeveless jumpsuit left little to the imagination as thin bedazzled lines darted throughout the bodice and legs of the getup. We were left praying that this trend will finally end before the next big award show.
We barely recognized Ingrid Michaelson, who looked glammed up and gorgeous on the red carpet. The singer donned this sweet Versace two-piece look comprised of a lace-trimmed crop top and pleated skirt that she paired with cool platform heels for a perfect Billboard Music Awards ensemble.
Though we were into the sparkly silver-and-black spaghetti-strap combo on the top half, Sabrina Carpenter's odd Billboard Music Awards getup lost us from the waist down. From the draping to the pants to the half-skirt, this Rasario design was trying to do too much. One redeeming part of her look? Those Brian Atwood shoes!
We loved Beanie Feldstein's spring-ready frock! The yellow dress by the brand Shrimps featured long sleeves, a low-cut neckline and an all-over white floral print. She finished things off with some cool gold heels.
We know the Billboard Music Awards can be a more casual event, but Lauren Daigle's look was a little too casual. She wore a frilly peach top (with a bizarre lengthy train), black pants and funky boots that seemed better suited for a concert than an award show.
