From bright colors to sheer disasters, the 2020 Critics' Choice Awards blue carpet proved polarizing and unpredictable. It also included a handful of stars who served up shocking fashion missteps, starting with what might be a Wonderwall.com first… a rare style slip-up from Zendaya! The star tops our hit lists monthly, but her selection at the Critics' Choice Awards missed the mark. The two-piece look from Tom Ford's spring 2020 collection featured a cropped, asymmetrical molded top in a metal-like material contrasted against a sweet, simple column skirt. Despite the killer fuchsia color, we couldn't get past that distractingly funky and futuristic top. And Zendaya wasn't the only star who disappointed on the blue carpet. Though it's an improvement upon her disastrous Golden Globes gown, we were still underwhelmed by Jennifer Lopez's Critics' Choice Awards dress. The star arrived in this lackluster cream-hued gown by Georges Hobeika, which was only minimally jazzed up by its bejeweled border. In fact, the back of this dress was actually a lot more interesting than the front. Let's check it out…

Jennifer Lopez's George Hobeika backless gown was bordered in embellishments to spice things up. But J.Lo added yet more bling via some stunning jewelry. See some of her Harry Winston stunners next…
Who could pull off a diamond pinky ring? The one and only Jennifer Lopez! She sported this extravagant accessory alongside an equally eye-catching diamond bracelet, all from Harry Winston. Next up? A look at her earrings…
Jennifer Lopez added more Harry Winston sparkle with these dazzling drop earrings. But unfortunately, these beautiful pieces didn't do her dress any favors — they just made that bejeweled detailing on her gown look low budget.
Occasionally, a dress is so fabulous that it's a complete showstopper — like Cynthia Erivo's Fendi gown at the Critics' Choice Awards. This stunning mosaic-print design is so exquisite, we've got to take a closer look (and see it from more angles!).
Up close, you get the full effect of Cynthia Erivo's Fendi frock, which featured sheer fabric at the neckline embellished with geometric shapes. Then from the shoulders down, the dress converts to a stunning mosaic print comprised of pale yellow, peach and shades of gray. Next up? A look at the ballgown from the side…
See how stunning the sleeves look from the side? Cynthia Erivo's majestic dress featured a train fit for royalty, all in that eye-catching mosaic print. And she managed to add equally dazzling earrings to complete this fabulous look, which we'll show you next…
It must have been hard to find accessories to rival her Fendi number, but Cynthia Erivo's chandelier earrings did the trick. Just look at these diamond-studded dazzlers cascading from her ears! To balance them out, she also had more hoops and diamonds trailing up her ears to match.
Vintage doesn't always equal a fabulous fashion move. Just look at Nicole Kidman's dull Armani Prive ballgown, a piece from the designer's first Prive collection in 2005. Its unique roots were the only thing interesting about the look. The strapless black dress featured a solid bodice and a subtle lace-covered skirt, which made for a snooze-worthy pick from the typically stylish star.
Like Nicole Kidman, we're used to Lupita Nyong'o wowing us in the fashion department. Unfortunately, this brown Michael Kors number really let us down. From the halter-style bodice to the pleated skirt, we weren't crazy about the oddly casual cut or the shiny fabric — though we did appreciate the way she paired it with gold accessories. Get a better look at those next…
When it came time to spice up her dull brown dress, Lupita Nyong'o opted for gold jewelry from Pomellato. That included earrings, stacked bracelets and rings.
After welcoming her second child, Anne Hathaway made her return to the red carpet in style — glimmering gold Versace! The actress donned this sleek and sparkly number from the fashion house, which featured a plunging neckline, oversized three-quarter-length sleeves and a tapered skirt. We'll check out her jewels next…
When it came time to add jewelry, Anne Hathaway piled on some unique pieces from Messika. The dazzling diamonds included a chain-ring bracelet, another stunning ring and diamond drop earrings complete with an interesting wrap-around feature over her ear.
Sometimes the wrong outerwear can ruin your whole look. Case in point? The dull black blazer Charlize Theron threw on over her slinky Celine gown. Though the sparkly frock showed plenty of promise — just check out that neckline and slit! — it was impossible to get the full effect because of the bulky blazer. Despite the misstep, Charlize still wowed in the jewelry department. See her sparkly additions next…
Charlize Theron rocked mismatched earrings — a stud on one ear and a diamond cuff on the other, flanked by hoops and studs along the upper ear — by Messika. She also added an eye-catching diamond necklace that fell almost as low as her Celine gown's neckline.
There's still one more month until Valentine's Day, Beanie Feldstein! Despite jumping the gun, we adored this pink-and-red number she wore at the Critics' Choice Awards. From the bow detail on the straps to the way she paired the Lela Rose dress with red velvet Jimmy Choo heels, this "Booksmart" star's look scored an A+.
Kate Beckinsale brought a dash of drama to the blue carpet in this Julien MacDonald design. Her one-shouldered frock featured an oversized bow detail — complete with a draped sash — and plenty of silver sparkle atop the pale pink fabric. But the dress had one fatal flaw: From some angles, the skirt was completely sheer! See what we mean next…
We moved this look to the miss pile once we saw this one from other angles! The skirt on Kate Beckinsale's dress was completely see-through and made us seriously nervous about a wardrobe malfunction.
Another star who fell victim to the tired sheer trend? Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who arrived in this black Dior Couture number. The one-shouldered confection featured a super-sheer skirt that showcased a short layer underneath. And though we usually love Phoebe's unique style, we felt like we'd seen this look too many times before to make it a hit.
Olivia Wilde arrived in this darling Valentino design. The fiery orange hue competed with some other stellar shades on the blue carpet, while the puffed sleeves and sweet pleated midi-length skirt kept things interesting. We loved her silver Jimmy Choo sandal selection, and the jewelry and beauty look she added as well. Get a better view of them next!
What's more flawless — Olivia Wilde's diamond Messika earrings or her perfectly on-point winged eyeliner? The star accessorized with mismatched jewels: an insane ear cuff on one ear and a simpler studded piece on the other. We're glad she opted for an updo to show off that eye makeup and those dazzling diamonds.
Mandy Moore's Critics' Choice Awards getup gave us some serious Zorro vibes… and we're not sure that's what she was going for. The star donned an Elie Saab jumpsuit that would have been fine on its own, but topped with that ridiculous cape, it was transformed into a costume-y ensemble. And not even those killer Christian Louboutin heels could save this look.
Awkwafina had a marigold moment in Elie Saab at the Critics' Choice Awards. The star's long-sleeved confection featured a subtle keyhole cut-out at the neckline, a belted waist, dramatic sleeves and a pleated skirt with a hint of a train for maximum glam. She also added a green clutch and multicolored drop earrings that we need to see up close…
Awkwafina added a few other bright colors with her jewelry and beauty look. Take these floral drop earrings in red, orange and yellow, for example. And when it came time for makeup, she tied things together with a bold red lip and bronze eyeshadow, keeping with this sunset-hued aesthetic.
Tinfoil couture? Sorry, Joey King, but this metallic Prada frock looked a little too homemade for such a big night. The thin-strapped dress made of a wrinkly silver fabric made the miss list — though she does get points for rocking those matching Prada shoes. In fact, the only thing that didn't match throughout her look was that dash of pink we spotted coming out of her clutch…
Joey King revealed she brought her own dessert to the Critics' Choice Awards when she strangely opted to leave her purse open, exposing a box of Good & Plenty candy.
One of our favorite menswear moments of the night? Christopher Abbott's dark green velvet suit, which he smartly paired with a stark white dress shirt (sans tie) and black dress shoes.
Yawn! Show us a more boring dress than Renee Zellweger's dull LBD on the Critics' Choice Awards red carpet — but you can't. The star's snoozy strapless ankle-length Dior Haute Couture number was one of our least favorite looks of the night.
Lucy Hale fell victim to bad posing on the blue carpet! At first glance, we weren't crazy about her mint green getup, but that's because she was blocking the best part! To do this gown justice, you've got to see it from another angle…
Stunning, right? Lucy Hale's halter-style frock featured a darling black bow detail at the waist with pearl and gemstone embellishments dangling below, expertly sprucing up an otherwise simple silhouette and turning this look into one of our favorites of the night.
Yikes. From the shiny pea-green fabric to the ill fit of this Cong Tri jumpsuit, there wasn't much to like about Kristen Bell's ensemble upon first look. But it managed to get worse… in the form of a totally unnecessary cape. Check that out next…
Yep, when you thought Kristen Bell's look couldn't get any worse, this loud jumpsuit delivered a bizarre cape detail. But despite her dismal fashion choice, there was still one element of her ensemble we could get behind…
Kristen Bell added some serious bling to this look with Forevermark earrings, complete with a cuff and dangling diamond detail.
We weren't expecting to see this fabulous tangerine shade on the blue carpet, but Alison Brie delighted us in a vibrant Brandon Maxwell number. Her thin-strapped frock featured a relatively simple silhouette that worked perfectly in this stunning hue. But she wasn't the only star who rocked this unique color…
Though it was nearly the exact same pretty hue, Rachel Brosnahan's take on orange didn't fare quite as well. The star wore this Carolina Herrera design that featured a thin metallic bow detail at the waist and oddly placed sequined embellishments down the top half of the skirt. And her beauty look didn't fare much better…
When it came time to select makeup, Rachel Brosnahan strangely opted for hot pink all-over eye makeup to go with her bright orange gown. She also added a coral lip, complicating matters even more. One element that worked? Those simple circular diamond earrings by Fernando Jorge.
Another tangerine dream on hand at the Critics' Choice Awards? Laura Dern's lovely Emilia Wickstead gown. The simple halter-style frock featured a full skirt and few accoutrements, but that color really didn't require anything extravagant.
Sadly, Margaret Qualley's washed-out cream dress fell flat amongst a sea of vibrantly colored gowns. The star's Miu Miu number was sweet, with its intricate beading and black bow detail, but not very memorable thanks to the muted shade.
Stunning in silver! Florence Pugh picked this perfect Prada number — a spaghetti-strapped dress embellished with plenty of silver sequins. She paired it with matching pointy-toe Jimmy Choo heels, but our favorite addition was those earrings…
Florence Pugh completed her sequined silver look with these stunning Maria Tash drop earrings. She also complemented her entire ensemble with silvery eyeshadow and a pretty peach lip.
Saoirse Ronan surprised us in this Erdem frock with short sleeves and a tiered skirt in a coral floral print. Though it was a surprising and bold move, it wasn't one of our favorite looks from the stylish star. (Though we did love her bright red lip!)
Instead of just embracing the menswear trend, Gwendoline Christie opted to steal a suit straight from the guys! The "Game of Thrones" beauty rocked this Dior Men ensemble featuring contrasting gray and champagne lapels way better than any guy could have, and added pointy-toe pumps to complete the look flawlessly.
Though we adore Kelly Clarkson, we fear she might have donned too many ruffles with this Critics' Choice Awards look. The star arrived in a long-sleeved Alessandra Rich gown that featured satiny ruffles along the neckline and sleeves that proved to be just a little too much. She paired the frilly frock with strappy black sandals by Salvatore Ferragamo. Though we didn't adore her ensemble, we did approve of that perfect red lip choice!
The muted hue didn't help it stand out on the carpet, but we loved Kaitlyn Dever's sweet Valentino ballgown. Though it appeared to be strapless, it actually featured a netted detail that went up to the star's neck. The lovely pale pink frock also included a shiny velvet belt and a full skirt cut to show off her Sergio Rossi sandals.
While many stars arrived in bold colors of the rainbow, Thomasin McKenzie opted for this elegant white gown by Louis Vuitton. The charmingly old-fashioned style dress featured long, sheer lace sleeves and a high ruffled collar with a tie detail that obscured the keyhole cut-out at the neckline, overall making it a surprising pick that still worked.
We weren't wild about Milo Ventimiglia's mismatched look at the Critics' Choice Awards. That tan tuxedo jacket paired with the white dress shirt with black buttons and a massive black bow tie just didn't flow for us.
Christina Applegate made an elegant statement in this long-sleeved black gown. We loved the unique silhouette with just one side off-the-shoulder and a mermaid-style skirt with a train that balanced it out perfectly.
We'll be forever indebted to Amy Sherman-Palladino for blessing us with one of our all-time favorite shows, "Gilmore Girls," but even that great gift doesn't excuse this disastrous outfit. From the shiny purple fabric to the bizarre structure of the skirt to the confusing context — is it a jacket over a matching dress? A wrap? Are those thigh-high boots underneath? — this look was an instant miss.
Catherine O'Hara kept things simple in this slinky Romona Keveza dress. The long-sleeved black textured lamé gown featured gold beading along the neckline — a move that would have surely made her "Schitt's Creek" character, Moira Rose, very proud.
Annabelle Wallis made a splash in this marvelous Moschino gown. It featured a cold-shoulder design paired with a plunging neckline and all-over silver beading.
Spicing up boring menswear on the blue carpet? Sterling K. Brown, who rocked this bold ISAIA look — a burgundy suit with a red plaid shirt underneath — and added a matching necktie complete with a leaf motif to add a funky edge.
Let's face it, a frock with a high-low hemline rarely makes the hit list. But Keltie Knight's peach tulle confection threw away all its chances with that dramatic tulle train… though we did love the feathered tulle along the top half.
AJ Michalka went with an interesting pick — this pale green, lone-sleeved frock with beaded striped detailing. Though you get see a sneak peek of the cut-out along the side from this angle, you've got to see the surprise detail on this dress…
The other side of AJ Michalka's green gown featured a nearly entirely bare back covered by a sheer nude panel, which came as a surprise considering its covered-up front.
