The Cannes Film Festival takes place in one of the most glamorous locales on earth, so it's only fitting that the yearly event brings out the very best in couture! But for every jaw-dropping high-fashion moment, there are looks that we'll never quite understand — like this one from Marion Cotillard! Marion Cotillard paired her leopard-print jumpsuit with a teased hairstyle, giving us major '80s vibes. The loud earrings just added insult to injury since they don't really match or fit in with the rest of the look (maybe she should have gone with hoops?). The fact that she finished this flashy look with a nude lip and relatively subdued makeup really baffled us. Don't worry, next up is the festival's best look to cleanse your palate…

"Star Wars" couture! Thandie Newton made a major statement on the red carpet at the premiere of "Solo: A Star Wars Story" in this stunning Vivienne Westwood Couture creation crafted just for the occasion. The dress features one of the fashion house's famous prints with all of the major black characters from "Star Wars" — ranging from Saw Gerrera to Finn — placed on top. Thandie was the perfect person to rock it, considering she's the first black actress to have a starring role in a franchise project. Now let's take a closer look at that couture!

Thandie Newton had a major hand in the creation of this incredible Vivienne Westwood gown as she helped plan the print. The "Star Wars" characters are actually modeled after the action figures seen in photographs taken by Christian Hogstedt! Next up, see it from the back…

Just gorgeous! Aside from the cool design, we also loved the cut of Thandie Newton's custom Vivienne Westwood gown, especially its asymmetrical hemline that dipped down into a pointed train. This one's definitely one of the most interesting looks of the festival!

This bedazzled suit of armor Kristen Stewart wore to the "BlacKkKlansman" premiere on May 14 could have been a unique red carpet look, but we're not into the way the Chanel minidress was executed. The silver frock featuring shiny long sleeves and jeweled embellishments on the shoulders and skirt gave off a Joan of Arc vibe that perhaps might have been a better fit for this year's Catholic-themed Met Gala. She paired it with black Louboutin pointy-toe heels, but those didn't last long…

Kristen Stewart quickly pulled off those phenomenal black Christian Louboutin pumps — as she has been known to do on a red carpet or two if she hasn't already shown up in sneakers. We are all for her reason for doing so, but from a fashion perspective, with or without shoes, this ill-fitting Chanel frock was still a miss.

Only Cate Blanchett could make a black turtleneck work on a red carpet! The star wore a look straight from the Givenchy runway — a simple black turtleneck paired with a tiered rainbow skirt comprised of cascading shades of red, purple and blue. Simply stunning! Now see it from the back!

Cate Blanchett's Givenchy look wasn't what it seemed from the front — her black turtleneck was actually backless thanks to a huge cut-out. That element put even more emphasis on the stunning skirt's cascading colors. We also loved the way she rocked her hair slicked back on one side to show it all off. A+, Cate!

A princess in Prada! Lupita Nyong'o wore this stunning pale pink confection to the Secret Chopard party on May 11. This regal number was one of our favorite looks of the festival thanks to its spaghetti straps, full skirt and pleated detailing. The best part? Lupita Nyong'o opted to add accents of gold to her pale pink Prada gown, accessorizing with massive gold jeweled hoops and a gold ring. The only element of this look we weren't obsessed with? Her eye makeup and that odd turquoise eyeshadow selection.

A pink moment we weren't impressed with? Chloe Sevigny's Gucci dress! The star wore the unfortunate frock featuring gemstone straps and a shiny satin bodice with a massive bow at the waist to the Kering Talks: Women in Motion dinner. We're so perplexed by this choice that we're going to need to take a closer look…

Why Chloe Sevigny chose to pair her bubblegum pink and white Gucci gown with a fiery red lip is beyond us. And we're equally dumbfounded by those massive jewel earrings that matched the frock's jeweled straps. This look just missed the mark on many fronts.

Cannes is a good place for a cape moment and Julianne Moore delivered in this gorgeous Givenchy Haute Couture design at the "Everybody Knows" premiere on May 8. The stunning sleeveless red dress featured a cape that was glamorously lined in feathers. Let's see this look from another angle!

Upon first glance, we didn't love the idea of a messy topknot on the red carpet, much less with an elaborate dress featuring a cape — but Julianne Moore somehow pulled this unconventional hairstyle off flawlessly. It made sure to keep the spotlight on those beautiful Chopard drop earrings and that Givenchy dress.

Jennifer Connelly's Louis Vuitton look at the "Solo: A Star Wars Story" premiere on May 15 gets points for being on-theme and giving us intergalactic vibes, but we weren't fans of the ill-fitting white frock with its long sleeves and thickly striped cape element. One cool part of her look though? Those funky, futuristic shoes! See those next!

Vintage Chanel? Say no more! Penelope Cruz wore this stunning black lace and tulle creation to the "Everybody Knows" premiere on May 8. The piece of art featured gathered tulle at the neckline and in panels down the gown's full skirt.

Flawless! Bella Hadid rocked one of our favorite Cannes looks — an edgy black sequined two-piece number — at the Fashion for Relief event on May 13. The custom Julien Macdonald number paired a long-sleeved crop top with a matching fitted skirt that came complete with a glamorous train.

Ugh! The Jean-Louis Sabaji confection that Michelle Rodriguez wore to the "Solo: A Star Wars Story" premiere on May 15 put pretty much everything on display — and what it didn't, she nearly flashed on the red carpet after the gown's top had a wardrobe malfunction! We weren't fans of the micro-minidress under all the sheer netting either. But it was the detailing along the back that really cemented this one as a fashion miss…

Michelle Rodriguez's dress by Jean-Louis Sabaji not only featured plenty of sheer netting but a gathered, tulle-filled train that made it memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Kendall Jenner looked ethereal in this wispy white number by Schiaparelli at the "Girls of the Sun" premiere on May 12. The dress, comprised of layers of alternating tulle and sheer paneling, featured a train, extra tulle at the sleeves and a plunging neckline. Rivaling the frilly gown's beauty? Her makeup and jewels! We loved the way Kendall Jenner's Schiaparelli gown featured a gathering of tulle on her shoulders for an extra dash of glamour. Her subtle makeup and nude lip kept the attention on that dress and those stunning jewels — drop earrings and a massive ring, both in pretty shades of green.

More white! Salma Hayek had a glam Gucci moment at the Kering Talks: Women in Motion event on May 13 in a sweet tea-length, long-sleeved white lace dress with red detailing. The matching white-and-red shoes were a perfect touch! Next up — her beauty look!

We loved the way Salma Hayek opted for a bright red lip to complement her white-and-red Gucci dress. Her shimmering smoky eye was another great choice, as were those pretty, loose waves.

From far away, the purple Dior Haute Couture frock with subtle navy tones that Emilia Clarke wore to the "Solo: A Star Wars Story" premiere on May 15 looked like a dress worthy of a fairy tale princess! But upon further inspection, some of the odd detailing made this look fall flat for us. We weren't fans of the off-center halter neckline with its thin purple string. Another weird element not necessarily observed from afar? The sheer skirt that only appeared see-through from certain angles. We did love the tulle along the off-the-shoulder sleeves though, and the way she accessorized with a nod to her "Game of Thrones" character… see that next!

Emilia Clarke donned sun and stars earrings on the red carpet of the "Solo: A Star Wars Story" premiere, which seemed on-theme while also perhaps serving as a subtle shout-out to her "Game of Thrones" character, Daenerys Targaryen, who once called her late husband her "sun and stars." And though we liked Emilia's accessories, we weren't big on her super-subtle makeup shades and bouffant hairstyle with all that tulle.

This one's definitely risking a wardrobe malfunction! Irina Shayk's "Sorry Angel" premiere dress on May 12 was held together by gold chains… literally! Her fiery red Atelier Versace gown featured gold Medusa-studded detailing that pieced the gown's top and skirt together in a fire look that could only be pulled off by a model. Next up? A look at her hair and makeup!

Irina Shayk wanted things simple so that all the attention would be on her vibrant red Versace number. So she kept her makeup neutral and chose to wear her hair long and straight, pinned back with a Versace barrette. She accessorized with small matching red-and-gold ball earrings.

From red to green! You would have thought it was Christmastime if you'd been paying attention to Irina Shayk's Cannes wardrobe! For the Secret Chopard party on May 11, the model donned this deep-green velvet Alberta Ferretti gown featuring a nearly waist-high slit that showed off the gown's equally gorgeous lining. Next up, a better view of her stunning jewels!

Irina Shayk rocked this jaw-dropping emerald and diamond statement necklace, bringing even more glam to her velvet Alberta Ferretti number. We loved the way she finished off this look with an updo, warm-toned makeup and simple diamond studs.

Those are some dangerous cut-outs! We have to give Alessandra Ambrosio's black dress props — Roberto Cavalli was very inventive about where he placed those ubiquitous cut-outs we always see on red carpet gowns! The model rocked the long-sleeved couture look at the De Grisogono party on May 15.

Alessandra Ambrosio opted to go with big waves and neutral makeup shades, but to be honest, our attention was focused solely on that necklace, a shimmering diamond stunner in a serpent design tipped with multicolored jewels.

Oh, Marion Cotillard! The actress served up another of the worst looks at the festival in this Adam Selman creation. Marion, who was promoting the film "Angel Face" in Cannes on May 12, wore this gingham sleeveless number comprised of short shorts and a half skirt that put her legs on display. Aside from the look's unfortunate shape, the odd color additions — a lime green belt and red strappy shoes — cemented it as a major miss. But let's take one more look a little closer…

Marion Cotillard's Adam Selman design didn't look better from a closer viewpoint (short shorts under a full skirt… why?!) — but she at least kept the pop of red consistent by also wearing a red lip.

A pantsuit with some bling?! Sign us up! We loved Julianne Moore's sleek look at the Secret Chopard party on May 11. The interesting take on the classic was done by Sonia Rykiel and featured jeweled detailing down the lapels and legs. Next up, check out the extra sparkle she brought with her accessories!

Julianne Moore accessorized her jeweled pantsuit with even more jewels including this layered diamond necklace and these stunning emerald drop earrings. Helping to cement this look as a hit was her gorgeous beauty look, which included a deep green shade on her eyes and a pink lip.

At the "Cold War" premiere on May 10, Cate Blanchett went for a high-low hemline courtesy of this custom Mary Katrantzou creation. Though we don't normally love this trend, we fell hard for this version with its bubble skirt and floral designs that ran from a black, silver and white combination into a vibrant, multicolored pattern. She paired it with a sleek updo and gold pointed-toe heels for a sophisticated red carpet look.

Tres chic! Victoria's Secret Angel Romee Strijd stepped out during the Cannes Film Festival in this impossibly cool tan pantsuit, which she made even more stylish by adding a crisp white tee and a pair of printed floral mules.

Naomi Campbell donned this stunning gown by Poiret at the "BlacKkKlansman" premiere on May 14. It featured a see-through mesh bodice comprised of strategically placed sequins and a dark teal silk toga-style dress. Unfortunately, though it was flawless from the front, the back was an entirely different story.

Though the front of Naomi Campbell's Poiret gown was beautiful, we weren't fans of the huge bronze bow on the back. It detracted from the lovely deep teal color and the intricate detailing on the sheer bodice and made it feel more costume than couture. Check out her odd accessory choices next…

Bella Hadid arrived in style at the "BlacKkKlansman" premiere on May 14. The model sported this gorgeous Elie Saab look, which featured a halter neckline and intricate silver beading. It was plucked from the designer's Fall 2007 runway collection, making it an oldie but a goodie. We'll get a better look at her hair and makeup next!

Bella Hadid's eye makeup matched her silver Elie Saab dress to perfection. And her rosy lip shade and amazing earrings just elevated this look even further.

Obsessed! Anja Rubik donned this gorgeous Saint Laurent minidress at the Kering: Women in Motion event on May 13. We loved the spring-y vibes the bright-pink floral pattern brought to the black carpet, and how she paired the look with simple strappy black heels.

Aja Naomi King rocked red on the red carpet at the "Ash Is Purest White" premiere on May 11. The star's pretty Pamella Roland gown featured a plunging neckline and layers upon layers of ruffles down the full skirt, culminating in a glamorous train.

We're so tired of sheer! We know it's not Lea Seydoux's fault, but when she showed up on the red carpet at the "Everybody Knows" premiere on May 8 in this Louis Vuitton frock, we couldn't help but feel a little sheer fatigue. The sheer draped shoulder and silver embellishments are pretty, but the sheer skirt showing off that white bodysuit underneath just doesn't seem very innovative.

Alessandra Ambrosio sported this gorgeous Zuhair Murad ball gown at the "BlacKkKlansman" premiere on May 4, giving us a dramatic red carpet moment. The confection featured long sleeves, a high neck and a full skirt all in stunning embroidered black lace. It came straight from the designer's Spring 2018 Couture Collection. Next up, see the back!

The gorgeous backless detail on Alessandra Ambrosio's gown allowed for an unexpected accessory placement — a necklace draped down the back instead of the front — that's a fun twist. We'll see the rest of her jewels and her beauty look next…

Alessandra Ambrosio rocked beautiful green drop earrings that added a pop of color to her black lace ensemble. Her makeup kept the spotlight on the gown and jewels but was still stunning with its warm tones.
