From black-and-white couture to bow details everywhere (and we mean everywhere!), the 2019 Critics' Choice Awards brought us plenty of fashion to critique — both good, bad and otherwise! Which stars continued their hit-list reign this award season, and which earned solid spots on the miss list? Let's take a look, starting with the one and only Julia Roberts. Unfortunately for Julia, she couldn't duplicate her major win on the Golden Globes red carpet, and she instead proved exactly why the half-skirt style isn't always a safe bet. Our first impression: Ugh! The Louis Vuitton look started out as a short-sleeved tuxedo-style jacket top with the teeniest black belt detail that gave way to a black half-skirt over white dress pants. Making matters worse? The bizarre silver sparkly leopard print on the underside of that skirt. Lady Gaga went surprisingly simplistic when it came to her beauty look at the Critics' Choice Awards. Her periwinkle Golden Globes hair gone, the superstar returned to platinum locks, which she rocked in giant curls. Her pink lip and otherwise subtle makeup went with the minimalist vibe, which she finished off with a pair of diamond studs.
Sure, Emily Blunt's Prada confection was perfection with its bedazzled bodice and sleek white silhouette. But did you see her earrings? We'll get to those showstoppers next!

Just like at the Golden Globes (where Sandra Oh killed it as a co-host), black and white reigned supreme on the red carpet at the Critics' Choice Awards. From afar, it might have seemed like an odd selection, but up close, you can see that they're surrounded by diamonds and sapphires that matched her dress perfectly.

Polka dots gone awry! Sorry, Judith Light, but this getup is just too much. The star brought the drama with her black-and-white jumpsuit featuring a high neck, long sleeves and wide-legged pants. Even sans those massive white polka dots, this look was already doomed. While we admire the bold fashion move, we're going to have to put this one on the miss list.
It was all about asymmetrical structure for Nicole Kidman at the Critics' Choice Awards. The beauty donned this Armani Prive confection — a black strapless number with a dash of white in the form of an architectural wave of extra fabric. The black-and-white color combo always gives an ensemble a classic vibe, but she balanced that out with her beauty look. That's up next!
To contrast with her elegant Armani Prive confection, Nicole Kidman opted for loose, messy waves in a half-up, half-down hairstyle. We liked the juxtaposition and the way she kept things very minimal with simple makeup and no necklace to keep the attention on her structured gown.
Nicole Kidman's "Big Little Lies" co-star Laura Dern's fashion choice didn't fare quite as well. We liked the texture of her sparkly, one-shouldered black gown but weren't fans of that odd cut-out. Better luck next award show, Laura!
Holding it down for the gentlemen? Rami Malek! The star looked dapper in this gray Givenchy tux, which he paired with a classic black bow tie.
Another one of our award season faves, Timothee Chalamet, consistently serves up edgy men's fashion. Unfortunately, some risks don't pay off. This Alexander McQueen multicolored suit was fine on its own, but paired with a too-casual T-shirt and those chunky sneakers, this look fell flat.
Pretty in purple! Kristen Bell chose a Cushnie frock for the Critics' Choice Awards, and we fell in love with both the color and the sleek silhouette. The teeny spaghetti straps and sheer paneling along the neckline helped solidify this lovely number as a surefire hit.
Regal Regina! Purple was also the perfect color choice for Regina King, who donned this off-the-shoulder Michael Kors design that had just the right amount of sparkle.
On any other red carpet, we would have loved Elizabeth Olsen's little black velvet minidress by Alexandre Vauthier. Unfortunately, award season carpets call for a little more in the fashion department and minis just don't make the cut. Despite adding that cute high ponytail and red lip, this one's a miss, Elizabeth.
Mandy Moore added to the white list on the blue carpet in this sleek Michael Kors design. Its long sleeves and cut-outs at the waist helped this one stand out, and her earrings were even more spectacular! See them next…
Mandy Moore's earrings by Emmanuel Tarpin featured dangling jeweled designs in descending size, making a unique statement on the red carpet. Extra points for the way the pink gemstones matched her pink lips and eyelids.
A white look that didn't wow us? Allison Janney's, who found out the hard way that the cape detail almost never works. Her all-white ensemble of a blouse and dress pants was topped by that unfortunate cape portion that culminated in a jeweled collar.
Laura Harrier has been one of our favorite up-and-coming style stars, and her Critics' Choice look didn't disappoint! We loved her all-white, winter vibe from the long-sleeved, fitted cut to the delicate, embellished details. Next up? A better look at this lovely Louis Vuitton number…

Yikes! Carrie Keagan served up one of the most flagrant misses on the blue carpet with this disaster. From the wallpaper-like print to the insane tassel detailing, we're going to need to take a closer look at this one…
Up close, Carrie Keagan's look was even more puzzling. Not only is it sheer enough to see her bra from behind, but you can better see the detailing behind those nearly floor-length tassels. While they're a beautiful pink shade, we just don't understand why this odd embellishment was necessary.
It was glittery Givenchy for Charlize Theron on the red carpet. Her one-shouldered gown brought a gothic-glam vibe to the Critics' Choice Awards with its ombre gray-and-silver fade. The triangular cut-out brought edge while the full, pleated skirt kept things feminine, making this a hit.
A metallic miss? Maggie Gyllenhaal's gladiator-like gold getup. The slouchy sleeves and the dull cut sent this straight through to our miss list.
We're all for pantsuits on the red carpet, but America Ferrera tried to pull a fast one with this ensemble. From afar, it looked like a chic pantsuit, but up close, it was just an ALC jumpsuit with a cropped Theory jacket over top — a little too casual for our award show red carpet taste.
Rachel Bloom redeemed herself at the Critics' Choice Awards after many missteps in the fashion department (her look on the Tony Awards carpet, anyone?). We loved this pretty, neutral-hued number with its tie detail at the waist and sparkly embellishments.
Nina Dobrev rocked red on the blue carpet at the Critics' Choice Awards. Though we loved the hue, we weren't crazy about the cut of her Valentino gown. As much as we love lace, there was just too much happening on this cheery dress — from the ruffled sleeves to that full skirt. Because of that, this look sadly lands in the miss pile.
"Dirty John" star Julia Garner wowed in Brock Collection on the blue carpet. We loved the retro-glam vibe the intricate gray gown gave off, from the spaghetti straps to the corset-style bodice and floor-length skirt that gave way to a dramatic train. She's definitely one to watch in the style department!
Claire Foy definitely didn't come to play the fashion game at the Critics' Choice Awards. It's as if the star phoned it in with this dull all-black ensemble. The jumpsuit's embellishments and that one-shoulder detail just couldn't make up for the lackluster look.
Tiered lace is almost always a hit, and Linda Cardellini proved that on the blue carpet. Her dreamy Zuhair Murad number rested off her shoulders and featured tier after tier of black lace. Her high bun, nude lip and minimal accessories made us love this look even more. A+!
While we applaud her for bringing a pop of color to the red carpet, we weren't huge fans of Rhea Seehorn's structured chartreuse design. Though the shade was a breath of fresh air in a sea of black and white, we would have preferred the Rubin Singer gown without the dramatic asymmetrical accoutrements.
Rocking bright green right? Connie Britton! Her shimmery Galvan confection featured spaghetti straps, a thigh-high slit and an extra slit at the neckline, delivering a surprising look for the star. We loved the fun frock and the way she rocked her hair in messy waves, keeping the look youthful and fresh.

Emmy Rossum's makeup at the Critics' Choice Awards left a lot to be desired. Despite an impossibly dark lip, the rest of her makeup was minimal — making that odd choice pop even more (and not in a good way). Things continued to go south from there, as that chunky choker from Fred Leighton was also an awful choice for that otherwise glam gown.
We really hope the pantsuit craze continues into 2019, and Catherine O'Hara's Critics' Choice Awards look gives us hope that it might! Moira Rose would certainly approve of this phenomenal black Georges Chakra pantsuit with embroidered red floral details. We've got to get a better view…
That necklace! Catherine O'Hara completed her fantastic Critics' Choice Awards ensemble with a sharp white dress shirt and a dramatic necklace tucked underneath her collar. She finished things with a ruby red lip and left us hoping she graces every red carpet this award season.
It's a tough thing to pull off, but Brianna Hildebrand's gown implemented a feathered skirt exquisitely. We loved the muted champagne hue and the way the shiny bodice gave way to all of those pretty feathers without making it feel costume-y.
Judy Greer redeemed herself after her Golden Globes miss! We loved this pretty all-over floral number by Reem Acra, with its surprisingly dark tones. Her red lip and updo finished off this look flawlessly.
There's a lot to unpack here, and while we like bits and pieces of this Gucci gown, as a whole, it's a miss. Lucy Boynton's dress included ruffled borders, a pink bow at the waist and a very busy golden-bow print, and we were left wishing the dress ditched one of those loud elements.
Stunning! Poppy Delevingne looked elegant and ethereal in this flowing neutral number. From that dramatic neckline to the full, pleated skirt, we're obsessed with this feminine frock. Next up? A look at the back…
Poppy Delevingne's dress was just as divine from the back. We loved the criss-cross tie detail and the low cut, which helped make this one of our favorite dresses of the night.
We weren't fans of Jameela Jamil's Golden Globes look, and her Critics' Choice ensemble wasn't much better. The strapless Oscar de la Renta ball gown's rich green print was pretty, but the odd cut-outs of sheer tulle underneath that full skirt seemed overdone and unnecessary.
Terri Seymour went for a sleek all-black getup, but this LBD was anything but boring! We loved the textured print and the sheer sleeves that set it apart as a sophisticated style choice.
Jodie Comer's dress pulled a Monet on the Critics' Choice blue carpet. From afar, the Zuhair Murad design was delicate and beautiful. Up close? We didn't love it quite as much. From the odd sleeve length and high neck to its illusion of being sheer, it was strangely simultaneously matronly and risqué in a way that didn't work in our book.
Not so mellow yellow! We loved the shade and the dramatic silhouette of "Roswell, New Mexico" star Jeanine Mason's Critics' Choice Awards gown. From that daring neckline to that show-stopping train, Jeanine certainly made a splash on the blue carpet in this Gustavo Cadile design.
