On Dec. 21, 2017, TMZ reported that Justin Bieber's relationship with former gal pal Hailey Baldwin is what landed him in couples therapy with back-on girlfriend Selena Gomez. The off-and-on duo, who reunited in late 2017 following her breakup from The Weeknd, reportedly decided to seek outside help after the singer-actress found out that the "Sorry" hitmaker had been communicating with his model ex. (Page Six added on Dec. 22, 2017, that Justin and Selena's pastor, Hillsong leader Carl Lentz — with whom they're extremely close — is the one who advised them to go to counseling.) According to TMZ, Justin contacted Hailey "to clear the air" about their fling, but Selena found the continued contact to be inappropriate. One important person who's not onboard with the couples counseling is Selena's mother, Mandy Teefey. According to a Dec. 19, 2017, report from TMZ, Mandy was briefly hospitalized following a heated exchange with her daughter over her revived relationship with the pop star. Mandy reportedly spiraled when she found out that Selena and Justin are in therapy, which made her realize that their reunion is the real deal and not just another brief reconciliation. According to TMZ, "Justin is a huge trigger for Selena's family, some of whom say they'll never forgive him or accept him for what they think he did to her years ago." (A source told People magazine that Mandy's hospital stint was about more than just Justin, though, "[It's] true her family doesn't approve of Justin.")

But People magazine poured cold water on the rumors on Jan. 3, 2017, reporting that the couple of less than a year, who were first linked in April 2017, are still on. A source previously told the more reliable outlet that "Travis is crazy about Kylie and he feels so lucky to have her and the baby."
