Zelda Williams honors Robin Williams' birthday with donations to homeless shelters

Robin Williams would have turned 69 on Tuesday, July 21, and his daughter, Zelda Williams celebrated her dad by making multiple donations to homeless shelters. "Today would've been Dad's 69th birthday, so to honor him (& that glorious number), I will be donating $69.69 to as many local homeless shelters as I can. Join me if you like, but regardless, know I am wishing you all at least one hearty, immature belly laugh on Dad today," Zelda, 31, tweeted on Tuesday. Since her father took his own life in August 2014, Zelda has been open on social media about her emotional struggle to come to terms with his death. She's also admitted it's confusing to hear from strangers on the late comic's birthday, saying some expect responses she's not able to give. In another tweet on Tuesday, Zelda encouraged fans wanting to mark Robin's birthday themselves to "volunteer at your local homeless shelter, or look up how to make homeless aid backpacks. Give one in his name. He'd have loved that." In the wake of his death, it came to light that Robin suffered from the brain disease Lewy Body Dementia, which affected his ability to control things like movement and memory.

After Kanye West's rally over the weekend and strange Twitter tirade on Monday, both fans and, reportedly, his family were left concerned. Still, some of the rapper's posts became trending topics on Twitter or used as punchlines on various social media platforms. On Monday, that sparked Halsey — who like Kanye has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder — to urge her own Twitter followers to be more compassionate about what "someone," seemingly, Kanye, may be going through when their behavior seems strange to others. "No jokes right now. I have dedicated my career to offering education and insight about bipolar disorder and I'm so disturbed by what I'm seeing," she tweeted (via E! News). "Personal opinions about someone aside, a manic episode isnt a joke. If you can't offer understanding or sympathy, offer your silence." The singer continued: "A lot of people you know probably have bipolar disorder and you aren't aware of it … Taking this opportunity to make offensive remarks and villify [sic] people with mental illnesses is really not the way to go…this is the exact triggering s— that causes people to keep quiet about it." She added a warning about how a public response to "someone" (again, presumably Kanye) can ultimately contribute "to stigma that damages an entire community of sometimes vulnerable people all for a couple of laughs." Finally, she reminded followers that like any other group of people, some who suffer from mental illness are "great," while others may be "a——-." That, she explained, is "Because they are people. With nuanced personalities." Again, she asserted that "making jokes specifically targeted towards bipolar hurts more than the 1 person ur angry with," before closing with, "Sincerely, Human Being with a Decade Long Bipolar Diagnosis." Other stars soon followed suit, with "Glee" actor Kevin McHale, singer Maren Morris and actress Jamie Lynn Spears posting about mental health, the stigma around mental illness and the importance of being respectful and compassionate towards anyone who may be struggling.

Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson have put their wedding plans on the back burner as the coronavirus pandemic continues to claim lives across the country and around the world. "We don't know what's even legally allowed, right?" Colin said when he called in to Andy Cohen's "Live" show on SiriusXM Monday (via ET). "This is also not the time to get all your elderly, at-risk relatives together in one big group," he added. Between the health risks and the fact that courts are still operating on reduced hours, the "SNL" star and head writer said he and his bride-to-be have no clue when they can actually say "I do." "We don't know if we could do a live show for 'SNL' yet, let alone have a wedding where the audience is elders," he said. As for the show, Colin basically said no decisions can be made until they have a better idea of "what the New York state guidelines are, and what the rates of infection" look like. "Of course we'd all love to do it in the studio and have an audience, and do it as close to normal as possible," he added. "But I don't know which stage we'll be in and what's feasible." Colin and Scarlett got engaged in May 2019 after about two years of dating.

Lorne Michaels hopes to resume 'SNL' studio production this fall: Report

With the election coming up this fall, "Saturday Night Live" could be back to producing the show from its regular New York City studio in time for the 46th Season kickoff. That's according to a new report from Variety, which cites "two people familiar with the matter" as having confirmed Lorne Michaels "and his team" are hard at work figuring out a way to safely resume production at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The drive to get back to the studio sooner than later could be pegged to the high ratings "SNL" has seen in previous election years, when impressions like Alec Baldwin's Emmy-winning Donald Trump and Kate McKinnon's Hillary Clinton kept viewers tuning in. One possible approach could be to produce the show without a live audience, not unlike the way Jimmy Fallon is now handling the "Tonight Show," with video-conferenced guests, a "socially distanced Roots" and a smaller, masked camera crew in a smaller NBC studio. The 2019 – 2020 season ended earlier than usual and featured cast members performing "at-home" sketches. No premiere date for "SNL" has been announced yet, but NBC usually unveils plans late in the summer, according to Variety.

The second trailer for Beyonce's visual album, "Black is King," landed Sunday and it's even more powerful — and celeb-stuffed — than the first. Los Angeles is poised to get its own pro women's soccer team, and thanks to Natalie Portman, Eva Longoria, Serena Williams and a long list of other female celebs, the team will be owned by a majority of women. TMZ reports Natalie, along with tech mogul Kara Nortman, gaming entrepreneur Julie Uhrman and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian are the lead investors. A smaller investment group that's involved in putting the team together is comprised of Serena Williams, Jessica Chastain, America Ferrera, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Garner, Uzo Aduba and Lilly Singh, plus soccer stars including Abby Wambach, Mia Hamm and others. "Today we take an exciting step by announcing the first women majority-owned and led ownership group," Natalie said in a statement. "I am thrilled by the opportunity to partner with this incredible group of people to bring a professional women's soccer team to Los Angeles." She added that in addition to building a strong fan base, the group hopes "to make a substantive impact on our community, committing to extending access to sports for young people in Los Angeles through our relationship with the LA84 Foundation." The investors are reportedly working with the National Women's Soccer League — where Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and other members of Team USA's World Cup winning team play — to get the L.A. team off the ground. According to TMZ, the NWLS currently has just nine teams in the U.S. The grioup has not yet announced the team's name. "Sports are such a joyful way to bring people together," Natalie said, "and this has the power to make tangible change for female athletes both in our community and in the professional sphere."

This September, Miley Cyrus — along with Coldplay, Keith Urban BTS and more artists — will perform at the iHeartRadio Festival despite the pandemic, though it will play out a bit differently than usual. In a new interview with Variety, iHeartMedia president of entertainment enterprises John Sykes explains that socially distanced performances will be taped in both Los Angeles and Nashville on Sept. 18 and 19 before the festival airs Sept. 27 and 28 on the CW. "We do have a theater — the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles — which will be completely scrubbed and cleaned with no audience," John told the outlet. "We'll put a Zoom suite of fans in there so the artists can look out and see, but they won't really be there. And we'll have a production team outside the facility remotely in a parking lot and the artists will have the venue to themselves for an entire day. They'll be able to rehearse, plug in and play live, we'll have video effects and sound."
