Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at the stars who found love, suffered heartbreak or experienced some other major event in their love lives in May 2020, starting with this split… On May 13, TMZ broke the news that Mary-Kate Olsen was seeking an emergency court order to legally end her marriage of more than four years to Olivier Sarkozy. (She first signed a divorce petition on April 17 but was told that New York courts were, at the time, only handling emergency divorce petitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.) Her efforts to end her marriage hit another roadblock when, according to Page Six, a Manhattan Supreme Court Justice ruled on May 14 that her situation did not constitute an emergency. (She insisted it met the bar as such because Olivier had ordered her to vacate their New York City apartment, putting her personal property at risk.) In her divorce documents, the former "Full House" star also asked the court to honor the terms of her prenuptial agreement with the French financier, which an Us Weekly source described as "ironclad." Toward the end of the month, People magazine reported that the duo's inability to reach an agreement over whether or not to have children contributed to their split: "A few years ago, having a baby was not a priority for her. This has changed," said a source. The retired actress and her ex, who has two adult children, also reportedly enjoyed opposite lifestyles: He's "a party boy and a big spender" who "loves the high life," while she "prefers to be quiet and alone" and is "not that interested in socializing," which caused them to be "apart quite a bit." Finally, on May 25 — the day NYC courts reopened to electronic filings — Mary-Kate was able to formally lodge her divorce petition. On the May 18 episode of his eponymous podcast, Brian Austin Green confirmed rumors that he and Megan Fox quietly separated late last year after nearly a decade of marriage and 15 years of coupledom. During the extremely emotional 30-minute podcast, the "Beverly Hills, 90210" alum insisted that "nobody did anything wrong" and that his wife's burgeoning romance with Machine Gun Kelly wasn't a factor in their decision to separate. On the contrary, they simply drifted apart when the "Transformers" star left the country to shoot a movie for about five and a half weeks in late 2019. Brian went on to say that both he and Megan are committed to focusing on their three kids and moving forward as a family unit even though they've "gone in separate ways for now." He also didn't rule out a reconciliation, noting that they've been best friends for 15 years and still love each other. As for MGK, the erstwhile David Silver said that as far as he knew at the time, Megan and the rapper-actor were just "friends." That same day, however, multiple media outlets reported that the duo got close while shooting the upcoming thriller "Midnight in the Switchgrass," and although they initially started off as friends, things between them eventually turned romantic. They put that alleged romance on full display when they nearly kissed in the music video for MGK's new song "Bloody Valentine," which dropped on May 20.

Trouble in paradise? The Sun reported on May 8 that, according to a source, Kim Kardashian West and husband Kanye West have been "arguing and at each other's throats" as they quarantine together with their four kids amid the coronavirus pandemic. "She is frustrated with Kanye and thinks he's not pulling his weight in family responsibilities," said a source, adding that the duo have "been staying at opposite ends of the house to keep things civil." The insider also echoed a late-April report claiming that the rapper has been "focused on creating" lately, leaving the reality star feeling like "all the parenting duties are falling on her." On May 13, an Us Weekly source added that the mother of four "feels like she needs some space" from her husband. "She is trying to be a great mom, focus on [her] law [studies] and her work commitments and it's hard to do all of this without Kanye helping as much as he can," said the source. The Skims mogul has also been struggling with the chart-topper's "super-controlling" nature: "Kim's been feeling as though he's been trying to impose his views on her life," said the insider. It hasn't all been bad for the duo, though: "They've had more time together to talk about their feelings, about the kids, her law career goals and his business ideas," continued the source. "She's trying to keep her family together, especially for the kids' sake." On May 24, Kim seemingly dismissed all the speculation with a six-year wedding anniversary Instagram post: "6 years down; forever to go Until the end," she captioned two photos with Kanye.
In other Kardashian clan news… Us Weekly reported on May 13 that, according to a source, Khloe Kardashian and ex-boyfriend Tristan Thompson "are very much acting like a couple" while in quarantine with their daughter, True, amid the coronavirus pandemic. "They are being affectionate, and Tristan has been very attentive," said the source, adding that it's unclear what will become of the duo. "Who knows what will happen when the quarantine ends, and of course, the NBA resumes. Khloe has always believed that if Tristan wasn't on the road, they would have no issues." For the past month, there have been reports that the basketball star is extra-eager to reconcile with his ex.
Page Six reported on May 25 that "Riverdale" co-stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse had quietly broken up after three years as a couple. A source told the New York Post's gossip column that the TV stars split "before the [coronavirus] pandemic hit and have been quarantining separately. They remain good friends." People magazine further confirmed the breakup news.
On May 4, Channing Tatum was snapped taking out the trash at Jessie J's home in Los Angeles, indicating that he and his off-and-on girlfriend were quarantining together amid the coronavirus pandemic. "They have spent a few days in L.A. together. Channing seems very happy," said a People magazine source. In late April, an "Entertainment Tonight" insider said that despite how things may appear, the duo are "just friends right now, nothing more." It's unclear if that's still the case.
On May 6, multiple media outlets reported that Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson had recently called it quits after two years of coupledom. (According to People magazine, they split in early April.) The "Pretty Little Liars" alum quickly moved on with G-Eazy: They were snapped kissing while picking up takeout from a restaurant in the Los Angeles area on May 14. (See the photos here.) A People magazine source later confirmed that Ashley is having "a fling" with the rapper. An Us Weekly source added that the duo "are hanging out and seeing each other, but it's not serious."
Us Weekly reported on May 21 that, according to a source, Scott Disick and Sofia Richie "are on a break" as he "straightens himself out more" amid his recent mental health issues. "Scott is in an OK place right now and is trying to get better and focus on work, but he has to prove himself," said the source, adding that "a big part of why" the father of three went to rehab earlier this month "was because Sofia wanted him to work on himself."
Ariana Grande confirmed her rumored romance with Dalton Gomez in the music video for her new song with Justin Bieber, "Stuck with U," which debuted on YouTube on May 7. Toward the end of the celeb-stuffed clip, the singer-actress can be seen embracing a man who appears to be the high-end real estate agent, to whom she was first linked in late March. They then share a quick kiss before dancing together — he even gives her a twirl. (The video also shows Demi Lovato and her new boyfriend, Max Ehrich, kissing and dancing together.)
Emma Stone prompted speculation that she'd secretly married her fiancé, Dave McCary, when she donned a simple gold band rather than her engagement ring on the May 5 episode of Reese Witherspoon's "Shine On" web series. The "La La Land" star further stoked the secret-wedding talk when she referenced marriage while chatting with another featured guest on the episode, Dr. Harold Koplewicz. While discussing how anxiety can impact a marriage, the psychiatrist said, "If you marry an anxious man, you're going to have to know me the rest of my life." Replied the Oscar-winning actress, "Thankfully, I didn't do that." Emma and Dave were set to wed in Los Angeles in March but reportedly pushed their wedding date due to the coronavirus pandemic. It appears they have gone through with their plans to legally tie the knot after all!
Similarly, Lily Allen fueled rumors that she and David Harbour secretly took their relationship to the next level (again) when she took to Instagram on May 7 to share a mirror selfie showing off her "ripped" abs … while rocking what appeared to be a diamond engagement ring. When a fan asked in the comments section if the bling is an engagement ring, the singer reportedly replied, "first rule of engagement club………" (The comment references the iconic line from "Fight Club" that "the first rule of Fight Club" is "you do not talk about Fight Club.") Lily and the "Stranger Things" star were first linked in mid-2019.
In early May, Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler's contentious split became noticeably less nasty. On May 1, E! News reported that, according to a source, the duo "made some progress in moving forward" with their divorce — specifically Jay agreed to release the funds "to allow Kristin to purchase the home she has been looking at since November of last year," said the source. They also agreed to evenly split time with their three children. Then on May 7, Us Weekly reported that, according to a source, there's "no truth … whatsoever" to reports that Kristin grew "increasingly impatient" with Jay's "unmotivated" and "lazy" behavior amid his retirement from professional football. Rather, the estranged couple simply "fell out of love," said the source, adding that the reality star "never had a problem" with Jay's retirement and "didn't find him unmotivated or lazy." Continued the insider, "She never criticized him about not working or not working hard enough. She didn't care." Meanwhile, Kristin's former BFF, Kelly Henderson, made headlines when she took to Instagram on May 1 to share a photo of herself enjoying a "much needed happy hour" while sitting beside a mystery man on the patio at a ranch home in Nashville. Fans speculated that the man, whose face wasn't visible, was Jay — to whom Kelly has been linked in the past. (In early 2019, there were rumors that Kelly and Jay had an affair — which Kristin flatly denied. The former star of "The Hills" did, however, admit that "how Kelly went about" the rumors — "talking about Jay on social media" and "adding fuel to the fire" instead of making it clear that nothing happened between them — caused the rift in their relationship.) On May 2, E! News reported that Kelly and Jay aren't hanging out in the wake of his breakup from Kristin and the man pictured in her Instagram post is someone else. Finally, on the May 19 episode of Laura Wasser's "All's Fair" podcast, Kelly finally spoke up, insisting "there was never an affair, she has "nothing to do" with Jay and Kristin's divorce, she's "not dating Jay Cutler" and she's no longer in touch with the former couple. She added that she's actually "been in a relationship for quite some time now."
Sophia Bush debuted her new boyfriend, Grant Hughes, in mid-May: Three days after they were photographed grocery shopping together in Malibu, the duo were snapped holding hands during a May 17 stroll in the same area.
Jaime King filed to divorce her husband of more than 12 years, filmmaker Kyle Newman, in Los Angeles on May 18. According to People magazine, the model-actress was also granted a temporary restraining order against her estranged husband, though a judge denied her motion related to custody of their two sons. On May 22, TMZ reported that Kyle, who's been living in Pennsylvania with their two boys, alleged in his legal paperwork that Jaime is an alcoholic and has been addicted to opioids for the past decade, putting their kids at risk. He also claims she admitted to having an affair earlier this year. A rep for the actress told TMZ that Kyle's allegations are "abuse" and an attempt to "manipulate the court system." According to TMZ, Jaime also accused Kyle of tracking her electronically, isolating her from friends and work opportunities and taking "hundreds of thousands of dollars" out of their joint bank account. "She says she feels sick to her stomach with every encounter with Kyle," wrote the webloid.
On May 1, In Touch broke the news that Matthew Perry and his girlfriend of two years, Molly Hurwitz, "very recently" called it quits. "It was very amicable, but they have both decided to go their separate ways," said a source. Later in the month, Us Weekly reported that the "Friends" alum "is back on" Raya — an uber-exclusive dating app for the rich and famous — and "messaging girls and getting back into online dating again" in the wake of the breakup.
On May 4, Dwight Yoakam's PR team released a statement announcing that he and his girlfriend of a decade, Emily Joyce, secretly tied the knot at St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica, California, in March. They exchanged vows in front of "less than 10 attendees" who were "seated at least six feet from one another" to adhere to social distancing guidelines amid the coronavirus pandemic. The bride and groom had reportedly been engaged for "several years." According to the statement, they kept their marriage under wraps out of "respect to so many people affected by and on the front lines of this pandemic."
On May 18, In Touch broke the news that Meghan King (formerly Meghan King Edmonds!) has a new boyfriend: entrepreneur and "Life Uncharted" podcast host Christian Schauf. According to a People magazine source, "They met back in March through a mutual friend."
On the May 10 episode of Ilana Levine's "Little Known Facts" podcast, Broadway star Noah Galvin revealed that he and Ben Platt are dating and quarantining together amid the coronavirus pandemic. "It's still relatively new," he said. Both men have starred in the title role in the Broadway production of "Dear Evan Hansen."
According to Us Weekly, "Grey's Anatomy" star Caterina Scorsone filed to divorce her husband of more than a decade, musician Rob Giles, on May 8, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split and noting their date of separation as March 1. "[They] have separated. They remain friends and are committed to co-parenting their children in a spirit of love," the couple's reps later confirmed in a statement to People magazine. Caterina gave birth to their third child less than five months ago.
More new parents calling it quits! According to Us Weekly, Princess Love filed to divorce Ray J in Los Angeles on May 5 — mere days after he told Wendy Williams that he was "gonna ride" with his estranged wife in spite of their issues. The duo — who welcomed their second child, son Epik, in late December — have been at odds since late 2019.
Anderson Cooper made headlines when he said on the May 4 episode of "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" that his former longtime love Benjamin Maisani is "going to be a co-parent" to his new baby boy, Wyatt, even though they're "not together anymore." Explained the CNN star, "He's my family, and I want him to be Wyatt's family as well." He added that Benjamin was even in the delivery room when Wyatt arrived via surrogate in late April. Their unique arrangement contradicts Us Weekly's May 1 report that they reconciled romantically. "They very quietly got back together and are planning ahead. Ben is selling one of his clubs and cutting back on how much he does at night so he can spend more time at home with Anderson and the baby," said an alleged insider.
During an extremely revealing interview with Vulture that hit the Internet on May 6, Hayley Williams confirmed longstanding rumors that her now-ex-husband, Chad Gilbert, was still married to his first wife, Sherri DuPree, when they first got together more than a decade ago. The Paramore frontwoman also alleged that the New Found Glory rocker cheated on her.
The May 7 episode of "Jersey Shore: Family Vacation" revealed that Jenni Farley and Pauly D nearly hooked up back in November during Angelina Pivarnick's co-ed bachelorette party in New Orleans. (At the time, JWoww was on a break from her relationship with off-and-on love Zack Clayton Carpinello.) While partying in The Big Easy, both the mother of two and the DJ — who nearly hooked up on the very first season of "Jersey Shore" more than a decade ago — made it clear that they were interested in "smashing." But despite encouragement from their castmates, they ultimately decided to keep things platonic — aside from a quick kiss JWoww planted on Pauly's cheek. "JWoww, I will never disrespect you like that. You know that, right? I will never do anything that would jeopardize anything," he told her … before promising that once he "gets that greenlight," he's gonna do some explicit things to her that aren't fit for print! Later, during a confessional, Jenni said that she "would be very open to talking to Pauly, but he hasn't shown that effort yet." Pauly, meanwhile, acknowledged that the attraction between Jenni and himself is complicated because she's "family."
Us Weekly reported on May 8 that Catt Sadler and off-and-on love Nick LaKind recently called it quits again. The former E! News anchor reportedly confirmed the breakup in a newsletter to her fans, writing, "I suffered a breakup. My best friend and I are letting go in love. Did I just admit that? It hurts. A lot." Last August, Catt said that she and Nick were "back together permanently" and planning to move in together following an early-2019 split.
Peter Weber confirmed late-April reports that he and Kelley Flanagan are a couple when he made their relationship Instagram official on May 2: "You caught me. Let the adventure begin," he captioned a photo of them kissing on season 24 of "The Bachelor." Later in the month, he called his relationship with the lawyer "a beautiful love story" during a Cameo video for a fan.
In other Bachelor Nation news… Colton Underwood and Cassie Randolph sparked split speculation when they decided to spend some time apart after previously quarantining together amid the coronavirus pandemic — she memorably nursed him back to health after he became extremely sick from COVID-19. But Us Weekly reported on May 12 that, according to a source, "everything is fine" between the Bachelor Nation couple. "[Colton] is just in Colorado visiting with his family since he hasn't been with them since the pandemic broke and recovering from COVID-19 himself. He was with Cassie up until the night he left for Colorado, but he'll be back in L.A. soon. They're both just enjoying time with their families," said the insider.
In still more Bachelor Nation news… During an interview with E! News that hit the Internet on May 13, Tyler Cameron hinted that he's open to the idea of dating former love Hannah Brown again sometime in the future. "I'd say we're friends right now. I'm not in a place where I'm ready to date anybody. So once I get to that place, maybe one day, but right now I'm just grateful that we can be friends," he said. The male model also gushed about his "great friendship" with the former pageant queen during a May 8 interview with Us Weekly, adding that "it was nice to kind of put our past behind us." Meanwhile, Hannah took to Instagram on May 11 to reflect on the first anniversary of her failed engagement to Jed Wyatt. In the lengthy caption of a photo of herself taken moments before the musician popped the question, she "Dancing With the Stars" champ wrote that she remembers feeling doubts about their relationship: "I could fake a smile but I couldn't shake the doubt, and looking back, I know why," she wrote in part.
On May 13, Cameran Eubanks took to Instagram to shoot down rumors that she's leaving "Southern Charm" because she's worried the show will expose the fact that her husband, Dr. Jason Wimberly, has a mistress. AllAboutTheTea.com reported that he's been involved in a two-year affair with a Charleston-based makeup artist. A source alleged that Cameran knew about the affair but was handling the situation off camera. She was reportedly "devastated when she found out that the show was planning" to unveil her husband's infidelity. But on May 14, the alleged "other woman" took to Instagram to shut down the allegations, which she called "blatant unfounded lies." Cameran re-posted the statement on her Instagram Story, calling the makeup artist "the victim" in the situation. "It is so sad that this kind, beautiful and innocent girl had to be drug into the mud," she wrote. "I signed up for this by being on TV. She didn't."
In a since-deleted Facebook post that a "Teen Mom" fan captured and shared on May 19, Mackenzie McKee alleged that she caught her husband, Josh McKee, engaging in inappropriate behavior with her "close cousin Ashley." In the lengthy post, the mother of three wrote that she "made the random decision to pull [Josh's] call and text logs" to figure out why he'd started "changing his behavior" after her mother died in December. (She essentially accused him of abandoning her in her time of grief and called him "a horrible man" and "a lie.") She later clarified on Twitter that while Josh may not have physically cheated on her, he was "texting and calling [Ashley] for advice," which she considered "wrong on both ends" and grounds to "walk away" from the relationship.
Page Six reported on May 16 that "Billions" star Dan Soder is dating ESPN host Katie Nolan. Things between the longtime colleagues (he often appears as a guest on her shows) reportedly "turned romantic" in "recent months."
During an interview with Us Weekly that hit the Internet on May 15, JoJo Siwa clarified that she and family friend Elliott Brown are not a couple, though they were "right at the edge" and "almost crossed the line" into coupledom but ultimately "decided that we shouldn't [date] right now," she said.
