Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at the stars who found love, suffered heartbreak or experienced some other major event in their love lives in mid-August 2020, starting with this roller coaster romance… Stop us if you've heard this one before: Scott Disick and Sofia Richie are done! Earlier this month, there were reports that their recently rekindled romance had "simmered down a little" as the father of three made "a big effort to refocus on himself and his family" amid his recent mental health issues. Then on Aug. 19, Us Weekly reported that, according to a source, the pair have "been off and on for two months and now have broken up for good." Said the source, "Sofia really pushed to make things work between them after they initially broke up, but Scott officially called it off recently and they are no longer speaking. … Friends indicated their 15-year age difference becoming an issue. He's in a very much different place in his life, really focused on a more quiet lifestyle, his kids and his investment businesses and Sofia, at 21 years old, is really still trying to figure what she wants to do, which drove them apart over time." The insider added that Scott was "very clear with his decision to end things" and "doesn't see them getting back together again in the future." Another Us Weekly source said that the model "is making it a point to do her own thing" in the wake of the breakup. As for Scott's super-friendly relationship with his former off-and-on partner of nearly a decade, Kourtney Kardashian, "It bothers Sofia to see Scott flirt with Kourtney on Instagram and publicly," said the second source. Ashely Benson and G-Eazy sparked rumors they're secretly engaged when they stepped out for a casually dressed grocery store run in Los Angeles on Aug. 18 with the actress sporting a massive diamond sparkler on her ring finger — which she attempted to keep under wraps by walking with her hand in her pocket. On Aug. 13, TMZ reported that sometime "within the last few weeks," Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson called it quits after nearly a year of dating. Later that day, the singer-actress confirmed the breakup news on Instagram Live: "Right now, two halves can't make a whole and we're individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be," she said. "Like everybody else at this age, we're just deciding who we wanna be in our lives [and] what we wanna do with our lives. So don't make it some drama story if next week we're out hanging out or getting pizza. We've been friends for 10 years, and we're going to continue to be friends, so just don't make it something that it is not." An Us Weekly source confirmed that the duo "realized they're better off as friends than dating each other." Said a second Us Weekly source, "They were really there for each other, especially Cody for Miley, after her split from Liam [Hemsworth]. Cody supported Miley as she was becoming more focused on her health and [sobriety]. They're still friends and there's no bad blood. Both of them appreciate that they were able to be there for each other when they needed it the most." The insider added that Miley is focused on "her career right now" and they both "just realized it was time to move on and do their own things." On Aug. 14, Miley said during an interview with SiriusXM's Nicole Ryan that settling down "has never been kind of my priority." Then on Aug. 16, Page Six reported that, according to a source, the former child star feels like a "free woman" and "free as a bird and thrilled" in the wake of her breakup from Cody.

Meanwhile, on the Aug. 13 episode of the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, Miley Cyrus opened up about her "very public, very big breakup" from Liam Hemsworth. "I tried not to get lost in the emotion," she said. "It's like a death. When you lose a loved one, it's that deep. It feels like a death." She added of quickly moving on from the split, "There's no handbook about how to deal with heartbreak. … I feel like, as a woman, I was villainized for moving on. They made me seem like I was disloyal, which is so against my character." (She also said that former fling Kaitlynn Carter, whom she dated immediately after breaking up with Liam, made her "really happy at the time.") As for Liam… On Aug. 15, Us Weekly reported that, according to a source, the Australian actor "kind of has a low opinion of Miley at this point." Said the source, "He was really hurt by their split. … [They] haven't talked much since their divorce. Liam was hurt by Miley moving on with new love interests shortly after they broke up. … Liam has been trying to be as private as possible and respectful about their relationship and breakup, and it's a shame to him and his family that certain aspects about his and Miley's relationship have been made public. He's a very traditional and good guy and was very hurt by the way specific instances played out in front of the world." The insider added that the former star of "The Hunger Games" has "had the support of his family to help him move on" from Miley. Also helping him move on? On Aug. 19, People magazine broke the news that Gerard Butler and his off-and-on girlfriend of more than six years, Morgan Brown, recently called it quits. An Us Weekly source later said that the duo split because the "300" star "couldn't fully settle down with Morgan and commit." According to the source, they're "both handling the breakup with maturity," and "those close to them believe they're better off as friends."
It's getting nasty again… Earlier this month, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt made headlines when she filed a request to have the private judge handling their divorce case dismissed, citing a conflict of interest — which sources close to the A-list actor characterized as "a delay tactic." On Aug. 19, however, Us Weekly reported that, according to an Angelina source, "No one wants this divorce finalized more than she does." A Brad source, meanwhile, told Us Weekly that he thinks "Angelina has gone way too far this time" and feels that "he's left with no other option but to dig in and fight back — hard." Yet another insider echoed that Brad is not "going to roll over without a fight." Said a fourth source, "They're at a total impasse, and there's no end in sight." Earlier this year, there were reports that the duo were getting along better.
During an interview with Refinery29 that hit the Internet on Aug. 18, Lili Reinhart opened up about her journey to better handle her mental health issues amid the coronavirus pandemic. But her quotes were widely taken out of context, with multiple media outlets reporting that the "Riverdale" star was dishing on her recent breakup from Cole Sprouse. Here's what she said: "The last couple of months have probably [been] the most emotional few months of my entire life, and my therapist [told] me, 'Your body's going through withdrawal from love. You're used to having this exchange of happy chemicals between you and the person that you're with.' In moments of my life, I have dropped every ounce of pride that I had just to be like, 'Love me. Please take the pain away for a day, a second, an hour, just so I can feel that fix again.'" She later attempted to describe how her real emotions inspired the metaphors in her new book of poetry: "I am scared that people are going to try and create their own idea of what my love life looked or looks like," she said. "I'm not saying, 'My boyfriend [slept with] another woman.' I'm saying, 'I felt betrayed.'" Cue the Cole-related headlines, which Lili quickly debunked on Twitter. "Quotes taken from my most recent interview are not about a 'breakup.' They are about the depression I've felt over these last few months. Tired of people taking my words out of context and piecing together their own story for clickbait," she tweeted. "I would never speak so candidly about something as personal as a breakup. That's incredibly private. I was addressing my depression."
In the wake of Lili Reinart's widely misconstrued interview, Cole Sprouse took to Instagram on Aug. 19 to confirm they parted ways earlier this year. "Lili and I initially separated in January of this year, deciding to more permanently split in March. What an incredible experience I had, I'll always feel lucky and cherish that I had the chance to fall in love. I wish her nothing but the utmost love and happiness moving forward. All I'll say about it, anything else you hear doesn't matter," he captioned a photo of his "Riverdale" co-star standing in the woods.
Still going strong! Devin Booker wasted no time reuniting with rumored girlfriend Kendall Jenner after the Phoenix Suns' season came to an end. Just two days after he played his final game in the NBA "bubble" in Orlando, Florida, the professional basketball player was seen grabbing a bite with the model and her sister, Kylie Jenner, at Nobu in Malibu. A few days later, Kendall and Devin were snapped taking his dog to a pet store in Malibu, further fueling long-standing rumors they're an item.
Us Weekly reported on Aug. 19 that, according to a source, Dianna Agron and her husband of three years, Mumford & Sons guitarist Winston Marshall, "have been living separately since last year" and that the former "Glee" star is already dating again.
On the Aug. 16 episode of the "Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef" podcast, Constantine Maroulis confirmed recent rumors that he's been involved with three different stars of "The Real Housewives of New York City." The rumors kicked off after a mid-August episode of the Bravo series showed Luann de Lesseps bringing up a mystery man, prompting Ramona Singer to remark, "We share a lot of people, don't we?" Luann then said that Tinsley Mortimer also had "a story" with the man, whom she said appeared on "American Idol." The Broadway star admitted that when he watched the clip, he knew "they're definitely talking about me!" The singer-actor went on to explain that he and Tinsley "legitimately went out many years ago" when he was starring in "Rock of Ages" on Broadway. "We genuinely really care for each other and liked each other," he said, adding that he became close with her family over the course of their relationship. "I just think there was a lot going on for both of us," he said. "Tinsley went through a lot and I was there for her, I'd like to think. People thought it was totally fake [for her old reality show]. It wasn't though — it was real. She's gonna hate me for saying this, but once she started calling me her boyfriend, I was like, 'What?!' I don't like titles. Is that terrible?" Constantine then explained his connection to Luann, with whom he's been seen in public, though they've "been cognizant of it not being, 'Oh, they're together,'" he said, adding that they met when she reached out to him about appearing in her cabaret show. They "had a lot of chemistry," he said, but were ultimately "just friends" who "enjoyed each other's company." Continued the "American Idol" alum, "If we were lucky to hang out here and there, we'd always have a good time together. [It's] not like we went out, like, officially for an extended period of time or something like that." As for Ramona… "Ramona is amazing. Ramona I might've met before I met Luanne," he said. "She's just a lot of fun. … We've had some drinks together, and she's got a great body and she's got a great personality and she's got a great apartment." He also noted that he didn't date any of the Housewives "at the same time or anything," and the reason why they all have "nice things to say" about him is that "it's all about respect" and he deliver "the goods" so they don't "have much bad stuff to say." Surprisingly, that wasn't the end of it. Constantine also revealed that he and Lea Michele "had a little moment together back in the day" when they crossed paths early in their Broadway careers.
TMZ reported on Aug. 14 that under the terms of their divorce settlement, Ewan McGregor and his ex-wife, Eve Mavrakis, will split half of his royalties from his work in the "Star Wars" franchise, as well as other projects in which he appeared over the course of their 22-year marriage. The actor will hold on to a whopping 30 vehicles, while Eve is walking away from the marriage with five vehicles, a $6.62 million home in Los Angeles, her jewelry, some bank accounts (it's unclear how many) and a $501,704 lump-sum payment to even out their assets. She'll also get $14,934 per month in child support and $35,868 per month in spousal support, along with additional yearly payments if Ewan makes more than usual in any given year. The duo will share joint legal and physical custody of their 9-year-old daughter, Anouk. Their three older daughters are adults.
Earlier this month, Chrishell Stause implied that her estranged husband, Justin Hartley, cheated on her with his current girlfriend, Sofia Pernas. On Aug. 13, Us Weekly reported that, according to a source, the "Selling Sunset" star "was very jealous of lots of women Justin interacted with, even if it was people he solely had strict work relationships with."
In a BuzzFeed Celeb video that popped up on YouTube on Aug. 14, Machine Gun Kelly told a thirsty fan who asked him out on a date, "I'm locked in already right now. No dates for me. Probably ever." The comment was a major indication that MGK and his girlfriend, Megan Fox, are in it for the long haul.
On Aug. 17, Us Weekly reported that, according to a source, Khloe Kardashian and her back-on beau, Tristan Thompson, "never really fell out of love with each other" during the off-periods in their relationship of several years. "They love co-parenting and are in love with [their daughter] True," said the source. "They spend a ton of time together and are raising their child together."
Us Weekly reported on Aug. 13 that, according to a source, Kate Beckinsale and her much younger boyfriend, Goody Grace, "are having a lot of fun together, get along great and enjoy each other's company" — but her friends don't think they're destined to have "a long-lasting/forever type of relationship." As for the 47-year-old actress's daughter Lily Mo Sheen, who's just two years younger than the 23-year-old singer, "[She] doesn't care about the age difference between her mom and Goody and is happy that her mom is happy," said the source. "Kate and Lily still have a super-close and healthy mother-daughter relationship, and Lily does not view Kate as competition or ever feel like Kate would 'steal' a guy she might be interested in. Kate would never do that to her daughter, and Kate and Lily also have different taste in guys."
On Aug. 10, Korean rapper-artist MeLoveMeAlot, who's never publicly revealed her real name, seemingly confirmed recent rumors that she and Post Malone are an item when she captioned a slideshow of photos and videos of them together, "All I want is him to be happy and I like to be in love." Across one image of the "Rockstar" chart-topper, she scrawled, "Please don't be mean to me. I'm not a bad person… I'm just a girl [who fell] in love with your Rockstar, ok?"
On Aug. 17, MailOnline reported that Jesse Metcalfe has officially moved on from his ex-fiancée, Cara Santana, with Canadian model Corin Jamie Lee Clark. (See her here.) And things are already serious: The duo have reportedly been living together for two months now after meeting at a party in Los Angeles in May. "This is Jesse's first relationship since the end of his engagement to Cara and he's already taken things with Corin to the next level," said a source. "He spent around two months in Canada filming for a new movie and Corin went with him while they've also lived together in Los Angeles. Corin is drop-dead gorgeous and he's over the moon to have found her, especially during a pandemic." Added an E! News source, "Jesse has gotten serious with Corin very quickly. He thinks she's amazing and they have been inseparable. … They feel like they've been together forever even though it's only been a few months. He's crazy about her." In April, Jesse and Cara sparked reconciliation rumors when they stepped out together amid the coronavirus pandemic. "Jesse moved out from isolating with Cara to commit himself to Corin and he hasn't looked back since," said the MailOnline insider. Apparently he's not the only one who's moved on…
On Aug. 17, Cara Santana was snapped kissing and hugging Shannon Leto — Jared Leto's brother and Thirty Seconds to Mars bandmate — during an outing in Santa Monica. (See photos here.) According to an E! News source, the actress "has healed from the heartbreak" following her split from Jesse Metcalfe "and has moved on." Added the insider, "She's truly in a good place."
Ryan Eggold and Jill Martin sparked romance rumors when they brunched together in Southampton, New York, on Aug. 15. According to a Page Six source, the "New Amsterdam" star spent the weekend with the "Today" show correspondent, who's been quarantining in the Hamptons amid the coronavirus pandemic. A rep for the actor, however, insisted that the two NBC stars are just friends. Jill called off her engagement to Erik Brooks earlier this year.
On Aug. 14, "Schitt's Creek" star Noah Reid took to Instagram to announce that he married actress Clare Stone on the beach at Lake Huron in Ontario on July 25. "A Wedding by Clare and Noah 25.07.2020," he captioned a slideshow of wedding photos.
Two months after Stacey Dash filed to divorce her fourth husband, Jeffrey Marty, he filed documents asking to have their marriage annulled instead. TMZ reported on Aug. 19 that the lawyer claims he only married the actress after her pastor and other clergy members put "some serious religious pressure on him." According to the webloid, Jeffrey alleges that 10 days before they tied the knot, the "Clueless" alum's pastor "unexpectedly and suddenly proclaimed that it was God's will" they wed. He claims he wasn't able to properly consent to the marriage because of "hypnotic prayer techniques" used on him. Stacey, meanwhile, says there was no indication her husband's mental state had been altered when they exchanged vows, but she's not fighting him on the matter, instead agreeing that the marriage should be annulled as soon as possible.
According to TMZ, MC Lyte filed to divorce her husband of three years, John Wyche, in Los Angeles on Aug. 17, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz further fueled rumors they secretly tied the knot when the actress took to Instagram on Aug. 18 to share a selfie with the aspiring photographer. "My forever," she wrote in the caption. Commented Brooklyn, "My wife." The duo just got engaged in late June after less than a year of dating.
Peter Weber took to Instagram on Aug. 18 to mark the first anniversary of the day he met Kelley Flanagan in a hotel lobby … months before she competed for his heart on season 24 of "The Bachelor." The pilot shared a video of himself dancing with the brunette beauty during their first meeting, two clips showcasing their chemistry during one-on-one dates on the reality show and a screenshot of a text message chain with a friend. Back on Aug. 18, 2019, Peter sent his pal a selfie with Kelley and a text reading, "I can't believe this. I don't understand what God is trying to say here. I have so much to tell you but you cannot say a word to anyone." He explained in the caption, "A year ago today I met this one in a hotel lobby. We danced the night away and then went our separate ways. I truly didn't know if I'd see her again. This life is beautiful, beautiful. Let's see what's next."
In other Bachelor Nation news… Colton Underwood and Cassie Randolph are now in a better place following a rough patch in the wake of their late-May breakup. "I have nothing but good things and love and well-wishes and friendship with Cassie right now. I love the girl and miss the girl dearly," the former star of "The Bachelor" said on the Aug. 13 episode of Reality Steve's eponymous podcast, adding that his ex is "amazing." He then alleged that their early July Instagram drama went down after Cassie appeared on "The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons – Ever!" because he felt like the show "took advantage of her" by only airing her brief comments about their breakup. "Cass stayed extremely professional and extremely quiet about our breakup, which I was so happy and thankful for. I even texted her and was like, 'Man I appreciate that, thank you,'" he recalled, adding that he gets "very defensive" over the people he cares about. "I know Cassie's a big girl and can fight her own battles, but I know her heart — she doesn't want to rock the boat and she loves people even if they abuse her or even if they take advantage of her, which is what they did," he continued. "Maybe eventually we'll address [what happened] together. It should have been handled privately, and we did handle it privately and sort of left it at that." As for Cassie's claim that Colton was attempting to monetize their breakup by adding a chapter about their split to his recently released memoir, the reality star said that he's been in touch with her about the addition, which she ultimately signed off on after they "made changes" together. "It wasn't a chapter just about the breakup or just to get back at anybody," he said. "The chapter is part our breakup and part me having COVID. We go into the details that we're comfortable sharing in that chapter and we both went over it together. … Honestly, I think her being a part of it made it even better."
In still more Bachelor Nation news… On the Aug. 18 episode of Us Weekly's "Here for the Right Reasons" podcast, Raven Gates said that she and her fiancé, Adam Gottschalk, are considering eloping after pushing their wedding date multiple times amid the coronavirus pandemic: "I've replanned the wedding three times now," she said, adding that she's "totally stopped" planning at this point. "I'm like, 'I'm not doing this anymore.' … We have options to elope. We have options to get married and cut down our guest list by, like, 150 people. I'm not doing that — I'm not uninviting people. So I told Adam that by December of this year, if there is no end in sight, we're just going to elope and get married by ourselves. In our house. And if there is a light at the end of the tunnel by December, then we'll schedule this wedding for the fourth time."
And finally, Bachelor Nation's Alexis Waters said that she's in no rush to get engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Tyler Fernandez: "We're both hustling hard right now — just focusing on our businesses. We know we're gonna be together so there's no rush, and he got a little lucky because, like, I'm young still. So he's got time," she said on the Aug. 18 episode of Us Weekly's "Here for the Right Reasons" podcast.
The Blast reported on Aug. 12 that Keyshia Cole is one step closer to legally ending her marriage to Daniel Gibson nearly three years after she first filed for divorce and almost six years after they first split: They've reportedly agreed to a division of assets and ironed out their child custody and support deal.
During an Aug. 12 interview with Us Weekly, Jenny Mollen revealed that she and husband Jason Biggs "have a couple of therapists." Said the mother of two, "We definitely always have somebody mediating us, but we've always had that. … We're not perfect." She also dished how she and her hubby of 13 years have grown closer amid the coronavirus pandemic: "There's just more," she said. "We're seeing each other a lot more. We're around each other so much that I guess it could go one of two ways. I'm either like, 'I want to turn over and see anybody but you,' or you just get closer. Luckily this has been a real bonding experience for us. And I think it's brought us closer. So there's more intimacy in our relationship than ever. And it feels good."
During an Aug. 19 interview with Us Weekly at a #FreeBritney rally in Los Angeles, Britney Spears' attention-loving first husband, Jason Alexander, said he'd "definitely" be interested in rekindling their romance. "If they would give us an honest chance, you know? And she really wanted that. I'd give it a shot," he said, referencing the superstar's conservatorship, which she's currently fighting. "I've got love for her, definitely," he continued. "But, you know, I've had to move on, so it's kind of like one of those things. It's not gonna be the end of the world if it don't happen, but I feel like I'm showing my support. … I'd love to be back in her life some way or another, but this conservatorship is holding that back from happening. We never were given a shot the first time around. If there's feeling still there, maybe we see where they go but that's not — you know that's on her." Back in 2004, Jason and Britney famously had their marriage annulled after just 55 hours. Since then, they've stayed "in contact pretty regularly," he claimed, adding that they'd even texted the previous evening.
During an interview with Fox News that hit the Internet on Aug. 13, Bo Derek opened up about falling in love with longtime partner John Corbett following the death of her late husband, actor-director John Derek, in 1998 after 12 years of marriage. "I've always been a fairly optimistic person, but it was a huge change, an enormous loss," she said of losing her husband. "The air just gets sucked out of the room when you lose your partner. So I wallowed in that for a while. … I didn't expect to end up with anyone again. Some women want to pair up again right away. I didn't. I remember consciously fashioning myself after some girlfriends that I have [who] are single and led very full, fantastic lives with friends and family and projects that they do. And that gave them happiness." But five years later, she met the "Sex and the City" star. "It was just an attraction, a comfort," she said. "He makes me laugh all the time. He's full of life, full of joy. I became attracted to him and I still am. We take things day by day and I think we are still there. … We're starting to get a little more settled." She also dished on their decision to forego tying the knot: "I think when you're beginning a young family and you're going to have children and set up this new family tree branch, it's obviously a wonderful commitment and it's meaningful," said the actress. "But for us in our lives, it hasn't been yet."
During an interview with People magazine that popped up online on Aug. 19, Joe Manganiello opened up about his relationship with his wife, Sofia Vergara: "I knew pretty quickly that I could trust her, and she knew pretty quickly that she could trust me," he said. "And we're both the kind of people who are capable of putting the other person ahead of ourselves. I was capable of putting her wishes ahead of mine, whatever they were, and she was capable of doing the same. Once you have that, you don't let go of it." The actor added that his "instincts about her were right." The duo will celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary in November.
