A lot of celebrity couples bit the dust over the last decade. Wonderwall.com is looking back at the most significant breakups that happened between 2010 and 2019, starting with the end of a Hollywood golden couple. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were quite possibly the most famous couple of the decade, so their split made major headlines — especially because it was so unexpected and dramatic: After a mysterious September 2016 altercation on a private plane between Brad and one of their six kids led Angelina to file for divorce, Brad faced a Children and Family Services investigation. He was soon cleared of any wrongdoing, but a bitter custody battle continued for more than two years. A judge declared them legally single in April 2019 even as divorce negotiations concerning a financial settlement dragged on. Like the end of their union, its start was also mired in scandal: The gorgeous couple admitted they fell in love on the set of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in 2004 when Brad was still married to first wife Jennifer Aniston. Brangelina went public with their romance in 2005 and wed at their chateau in France in 2014 two years before it all came crashing down. Many fans claimed they lost their faith in true love in April 2018 when Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan announced that they were ending their nearly nine-year marriage. The two met back in 2006 on the set of the film "Step Up" and married three years later. They welcomed daughter Everly in 2013 but less than five years after that, it was time to say goodbye. The two announced their breakup on Instagram, explaining that they'd "lovingly chosen to separate."

After a lengthy friendship and seven years of marriage, music stars Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez parted ways in July 2011. Their divorce, which was finalized in 2014, didn't involve any scandalous behavior from either party — at least that the public knew about — but a source did tell Us Weekly at the time that there was friction as Marc "hated the fact that she was a sex symbol." J.Lo later admitted she sensed it wouldn't work. "I hung in there for seven years," she told W magazine. "[But] I knew very quickly that it wasn't the right thing." The two share twins Max and Emme, who were born in 2008.

One of the most infamous splits in pop culture history went down in 2011 after a shockingly short 72 days of marriage. Reality TV star Kim Kardashian and NBA player Kris Humphries had only been dating for seven months when they got engaged; they wed just a couple months later in a lavish (and televised!) wedding in August 2011. By October, Kim had filed for divorce, though it wouldn't be finalized until 536 days later in 2013.
Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore were one of the more famous couples at the beginning of this decade, thanks to their combined star power and 15-year age difference. They first linked up in 2003 and got hitched in 2005, but by September 2011, cracks had started to show. After Ashton was accused of cheating on the couple's sixth wedding anniversary, the two separated. Their divorce was finalized in 2013.
Another breakup that truly shocked Hollywood? The end of Chris Pratt and Anna Faris's union. Tho duo, who welcomed son Jack during their eight-year marriage, announced their split via their social media pages in August 2017.
In June 2012, the couple known by the portmanteau TomKat dramatically split when Katie Holmes blindsided Tom Cruise with divorce papers after less than six years of marriage. The couple, who got engaged in June 2005 after just eight weeks of dating, had wed in November 2006. They reached a private settlement in their divorce in just 11 days and Katie was awarded custody of daughter Suri Cruise.
Katie Holmes went through two major breakups over the last decade! After being linked to Jamie Foxx for six secretive years — the couple were rarely spotted in public together until the last few years of their romance, but credible outlets confirmed they'd dated on and off since 2013 — they ended things for good in the summer of 2019 not long after they publicly posed together for the first time at the Met Gala in May.
Though their on-screen counterparts' relationship lasted forever, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart couldn't make their real-life romance go the distance. The duo, who started dating in 2009 while filming the "Twilight" franchise, in which they played vampire lovers Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, officially called it quits in May 2013. This was less than a year after Kristen was caught cheating with her married "Snow White and the Huntsman" director, Rupert Sanders.
The world learned all about "conscious uncoupling" in 2014 when Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced that they were separating after 10 years of marriage. Gwyneth, who shared the news on her GOOP website that March, went on to show the world that she and the Coldplay frontman, parents to daughter Apple and son Moses, had found a way to remain the best of friends amid an incredibly amicable breakup. Their split in many ways provided a blueprint for other Hollywood couples to follow.
Sandra Bullock was fresh off an Academy Award win for her work in "The Blind Side" when she learned in early 2010 that husband Jesse James had cheated on her. The two, who had been married for almost five years at that point, went their separate ways after details emerged about his affairs with multiple women including tattoo model Michelle "Bombshell" McGee.
Two and a half years after their August 2016 wedding celebration in the backyard of their home in Los Angeles's Bel Air neighborhood, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux went their separate ways. In February 2018, the pair — who started dating in 2011 — announced that their decision to split was "mutual and lovingly made at the end of [2017]."
Wrestling golden couple John Cena and Nikki Bella ended their engagement in April 2018 just a few weeks before they were set to marry. The couple had been dating since 2012 and John had proposed in 2017 — in the wrestling ring, of course! Though they reunited for a time in May, by July, things were officially over.
"The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise co-stars Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield were a young Hollywood power couple for four years before they ended things in 2015. Their first split came that April, but the final breakup took place a few months later. The world found out they'd called it quits in October when they confirmed their split to Us Weekly.
After an impressive 25-year marriage, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver announced their separation in May 2011. The reason for their split? It had recently been revealed that Arnold had in 1997 fathered a child with their housekeeper, Mildred "Patty" Baena. Joseph Baena was born just five days after Arnold and Maria's youngest son, Christopher.
Eva Longoria and basketball star Tony Parker were an It couple in the '00s. They'd starting their relationship in 2004 and married in a flashy Paris wedding in 2007. Unfortunately, their fairy tale love only lasted until 2010, with Eva filing for divorce that November. The cause of their split? Tony was reportedly unfaithful.
Music supercouple Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale ended their 13-year marriage in August 2015 with a divorce filing that shocked fans. Within a few months, reports detailing a nanny cheating scandal had emerged. During their nearly 20-year relationship, the No Doubt singer and the Bush frontman welcomed three sons — Kingston, Zuma and Apollo.
Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert were one of country music's supercouples, but after nine years together and four years of marriage, the duo ended things in the middle of the decade. They announced their split in July 2015 on the same day an Oklahoma judge finalized their divorce (just two weeks after Blake filed!).
Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus went through quite a few breakups over the last decade. The first? The young couple — who met while co-starring in "The Last Song" in 2009 — split after a year of dating only to make up and break up multiple times. They got engaged in 2012 then had a big split in 2013 that lasted for two and a half years. They reunited for the final time in late 2015 and married at Miley's Tennessee home in December 2018. But less than eight months later, it was over for good.
Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney had a pretty romantic start — they met on the set of her music video for "You and I" (he played her love interest) back in 2011. Their sweet romance unfolded over the next few years, culminating in a proposal with a heart-shaped diamond ring in February 2015. But before they could walk down the aisle, the couple called it quits in July 2016.
This relationship, which saw more than its fair share of scandal, pumped the brakes for good in 2013. Chris Brown and Rihanna started dating in 2008 and dramatically split in 2009 after Chris assaulted her before the Grammys. Despite what happened, they reunited in 2012 and collaborated on two songs before finally calling it quits the following year. Chris confirmed the breakup on radio's "The Kyle and Jackie O Show" in May 2013 when he said, "Shawty doing her own thang."
In October 2013, model Miranda Kerr and actor Orlando Bloom announced that they'd split after three years of marriage and one son together.
At the beginning of the decade, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens were the dream teen couple. They found love starring in the "High School Musical" franchise together and dated for three years before calling it quits in December 2010. There were no scandals involved in their split. A source told Us Weekly at the time that the relationship "just ran its course."
This one hurt! In July 2016, we learned that one of Hollywood's most devoted couples, Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger, had ended things after 10 years as a couple. The news came in the wake of a scandal: About six months earlier, Diane was spotted kissing co-star Norman Reedus — who's now her boyfriend and the father of her daughter — at a New York City dive bar when Josh was out of town.
In September 2017, Fergie and Josh Duhamel announced that they'd split after eight years of marriage. The revealed to "Entertainment Tonight" that they'd quietly separated earlier in the year but had been keeping the news to themselves. They share a son, Axl.
Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson started dating in 2007 and by the fall of 2008, they were husband and wife. But just two years later, the wildly private couple's union was over: In December 2010, the movie stars announced plans to divorce.
Just three months after they welcomed their first child together, Janet Jackson and billionaire Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana — who'd secretly wed in 2012 — dramatically split. "It was quite an abusive situation. It came on later in the relationship, verbal abuse and being [made to feel like] a prisoner in her own home. No pregnant woman needs to go through being called a b—- everyday. There were things like that. That's what she went through," Janet's brother Randy Jackson claimed to People magazine. Wissam strongly denied he'd ever abused the superstar.
Jude Law and Sienna Miller's long on-and-off romance ended for good early in the decade. The Brits met on the set of the movie "Alfie" in 2003 and got engaged in late 2004. In 2005, he publicly apologized for cheating on her with the nanny who looked after his kids with ex-wife Sadie Frost. Jude and Sienna split in 2006 and rekindled things in 2009 but in early 2011, they confirmed their romance was over yet again. "I think this happens in everyone's lives: You get back together, you try and make it work, and it doesn't," Sienna told The Guardian the same year. "It's not acrimonious. It had run its course."
Another on-again, off-again musical couple who called it quits for good this decade? Katy Perry and John Mayer, who first started dating in 2012 following her divorce from Russell Brand. Though they recorded a duet together, they couldn't keep the harmony going — they split first in August 2012, then again in March 2013 and again in February 2014. They tried one more time in 2015 but were done — for good this time — by that July. Years later, John confirmed that his 2017 song "Still Feel Like Your Man" was about Katy.
Despite a 22-year age difference, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard started up a romance in 2012. They wed in February 2015, but their marriage was anything but smooth sailing. In May 2016, Amber alleged that Johnny was verbally and physically abusive — he denied it and claimed she'd abused him — and she filed for divorce as well as a restraining order. After lengthy and bitter negotiations, they reached a divorce settlement later that year but the drama only continued when Johnny sued the actress for defamation.
Despite a 13-year age difference, Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama made their relationship work for many years. The couple announced their split in June 2016, putting out a statement on their social media accounts that read: "After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship."
Kaley Cuoco was also unlucky in love during this last decade. The "Big Bang Theory" star had a whirlwind romance with tennis pro Ryan Sweeting and accepted a proposal in September 2013 after just three months of dating — then married him that New Year's Eve. By September 2015, after just 21 months of marriage, Kaley had filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences."
In June 2014, Melanie Griffith filed to divorce Antonio Banderas after 18 years of marriage and one daughter together.
This next couple were practically over before they began! Pop star Ariana Grande and comedian Pete Davidson dominated headlines when they got together in May 2018, both on the heels of splits (hers from rapper Mac Miller; his from writer Cazzie David). By June, they were engaged, and by October, they were dunzo.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon met way back in 2005 but didn't start dating until 2008. After that, things moved very quickly — they got married after just six weeks of dating. They welcomed twins in 2011, Monroe and Moroccan, and managed to organize yearly weddings celebrating their love… until December 2014. At that point, Nick had filed for divorce, though the two remained friendly for their kids.
In October 2010, Courteney Cox and David Arquette announced that they'd split after 11 years of marriage. The couple, who share daughter Coco, maintained an amicable relationship and finalized their divorce nearly three years later.
Taylor Swift went through her fair share of breakups with famous guys (including John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Conor Kennedy and Harry Styles) at the beginning of the decade, but her longest relationship came to an end in June 2016: She'd been in a serious romance with Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris since February 2015. Two weeks after their breakup was confirmed, Taylor had moved on to the next one…
Taylor Swift's rebound relationship after Calvin Harris didn't last either, but it did produce a summer of headlines. She linked up with actor Tom Hiddleston in June 2016 not long after they were seen dancing together at the Met Gala in May. Things got intense quickly as they traveled together, taking their nascent romance to Italy, Australia, Tennessee and Tom's native Britain, where he immediately introduced the pop star to his mom. Their PDA at Taylor's Fourth of July party at her Rhode Island home was also a big story. But this one didn't go the distance either — they were over by that September.
Even annual vow renewals couldn't stop this split! Heidi Klum and Seal were known for celebrating their love every year, but after seven years of marriage, they announced a breakup in January 2012. The duo have four kids.
Reality TV stars Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick started dating back in 2006, but their tumultuous romance came to an end in the summer of 2015 amid a new round of allegations that Scott had been unfaithful. The couple, who share three children — Mason, Penelope and Reign — have since become friendly again and learned to successfully co-parent.
Reality TV star Khloe Kardashian and NBA player Lamar Odom married just one month after they met in 2009. By late 2013, however, Khloe had had enough of Lamar's infidelity and drug use and filed for divorce. It took another three years for their split to be finalized in part because Khloe temporarily called off the divorce in order to help care and make legal decisions for Lamar when he nearly died at a Nevada brothel after suffering an overdose in 2015.
We saw our fair share of Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber breakups over the last decade during the pop stars' roller coaster romance, which began in 2011. Their final split came in 2018 after which Justin famously picked things back up with ex Hailey Baldwin and married her, presumably putting an end to the drama with Selena.
Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough ended their high-profile two-year relationship in March 2013. The couple cited their busy lives as the reason for the split, with a source telling Us Weekly, "Their schedules were too hectic."
Spice Girls singer Mel B and husband Stephen Belafonte, with whom she has one daughter, dramatically split in 2017 after nearly a decade of marriage. Their contentious breakup dragged on and on and was marred by claims of domestic violence, drug use and infidelity.
Another one bites the dust! Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber had been together for 11 years when they confirmed their split in the fall of 2016. The pair put out a statement to "Entertainment Tonight," asking for privacy for themselves and their two kids.
In April 2010, the world learned that Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry and model Gabriel Aubry had split after four years together. They fought bitterly over custody of daughter Nahla and support payments for years.
Halle Berry moved on from Gabriel Aubry with French actor Olivier Martinez, whom she wed in 2013 while pregnant with their son, Maceo. But just two years later, it was over, and they announced plans to divorce in October 2015.
Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult called it quits for good in August 2014 after about four years as a couple. The "X-Men" franchise co-stars first fell for one another after meeting during a screen test for 2011's "X-Men: First Class."
Drew Barrymore called it quits with husband No. 3, art consultant Will Kopelman, after nearly four years of marriage in 2016. The pair, who'd married in 2012, share two daughters.
Kylie Jenner and Tyga first met way back in 2011 — when the reality TV star was just 14 (the rapper is nearly eight years older than her). Rumors started swirling that the two were an item in 2014, but despite plenty of stories insisting that they were indeed together romantically, they didn't confirm their relationship until 2015 after Kylie turned 18. Though they were on-again, off-again for some time, they finally ended things in the spring of 2017 not long before Kylie moved on with rapper Travis Scott, with whom she immediately had a baby.
Pop singer Ashlee Simpson and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz split in 2011 after nearly three years of marriage and one son together.
Emma Roberts and Evan Peters dated on and off for seven years before ending their relationship for good in early 2019.
Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines filed for divorce from "Heroes" actor Adrian Pasdar — whom she wed at Las Vegas's A Little White Wedding Chapel in 2000 — in June 2017 after 17 years of marriage. The couple's split was contentious, with Adrian taking the country music star to court for a larger chunk of her earnings amid a court battle that's lasted for more than two years. They have two sons together.
Actress Kate Hudson and her fiancé, Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy, ended their four-year romance in 2014. "Relationships ending are painful, and you can choose to carry that or you can choose to reframe it. If Matt and I had a great relationship, we would still be together, but we chose to move on because we had different visions of how we wanted to live our lives," Kate, who shares son Bingham with Matt, told Allure a year after their split.
